Recently demanded the DJ at a wedding to quit playing his bullshit because the dance floor was EMPTY and play Knee Deep. He refused for two more songs as dust gathered on the dance floor. Finally he played the song and within a minute there were 4 girls dancing with ME. DJ told me he would never do a gig again and not play Knee Deep.
I remember when this came out. That was a party. We jammed so hard in that old house, the floor almost gave in. They moved the speakers outside, the party moved outside and people were running there cars, trucks in the ditch to get to the party. PARLIAMENT, FUNKADELIC, BOOTSY COLLINS, SIR NOSE, ONE NATION WAS DEFINITELY UNDER A GROOVE THAT NIGHT. WOW!!!! WHAT A PARTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Phillippe Wynne hung out singing with George Clinton in the early days before he joined The Spinners and came back to sing with his friend George, I was there when Phillippe had a heart attack he will always be solrely missed. Everytime I hear this song I hear him no matter who is singing it today.
This is exactly why pluto is no longer a planet, the plutorians just would not funk, or deeper still get knee deep...so K-zar had to execute great wrath upon them with furious anger. Now their planet is just a star.
@tjfarri1 LOL, I was a lil kid myself and couldn't afford the complete album, so I rocked the 45 single which had parts 1 and 2 of the song, and it was STILL too short!!
If you werent bumpin this in ya ride at the carwash, you wasnt bumpin S**T, or in whoever's car you got to take and wash, (just keepin it real), but it had to be the long version, my dad had a van in those days so I just knew I was the coolest lil cat.......couldnt tell me nuthin!!!

One of 1st real "parties" on the yard at Southern University, featured everybody in the stands in the stadium for a pep rally for the Jags! We rocked the whole 15 minutes plus on this jam!
im 20 years old and i love funk music every time i bump this music i always get people thats 30 and up askin me "what you know bout that?!" maybe my soul is from the 70 cause funk is my shit!!!
I can remember when this came out! My friends and I were hosting a party at our apartment party room in Memphis and we had been serving PGA punch all night long along with other party favors. When we played this, everybody hit the dance floor singing the intro and the hook. We partied so hard that the walls were sweating and they wouldn't let us use the party room again. They just don't do it like that any more. Classic!
The "brother" from The Spinners on this song---Phillipe Soul Wynne of Cincinnati, OH. One of the great voices of 70s soul music! They don't make 'em like that no mo'.
@LimaSeta I use to have an arrow to knee , until I played Skyrim and met tons of digital fellow beings that also took an arrow to knee , so it took my arrow to the knee back , so now I still actually have an arrow to the knee, like you.
This song is still the shit. It could come out today and make the top 10. "and when she dance, she sets the world on fire." "oh no not the moose." lol. Tight.....tight.
been jammin to this song since I was a child but honestly can't help it now that everytime I hear this I think "Welcome to Good Burger Home of the Good Burger can I take your order?"....thanks for postin, first time I've heard this classic in full length
Glory be, the funk's on me. Reminds me of my high school Beaumont High in the Lou. This is the greatest funk cut of all time. I feel blessed to have been in high school when this song came out. The funk could knock your socks off your shoes.
Brooklyn, NY. Crown Heights! Downtown at The Warehouse. Plenty of room to get off. You had to go hard to even keep up with this jam. Thanks Paul Bias you were a good friend.
Is it possible for a song to embody, maintain and reflect all aspects of honey thick funk until the end of time without getting stale? If we were to come back to Earth in 600 years would people still be sweating to this cut on the dance floor?
Whenever radio stations have a countdown of the all time greatest dance jams, this is more often than not NUMERO UNO! How long that will last is anyones guess, but the fact that George Clinton's funk is still holding it down after all these years should tell you something. No one has or ever will do it better!
I was only 19 when this jam came out, and I don't know about the rest of the world, but north minneapolis had more house patries than anywhere during this era of P-Funk.! Thanks people!!!!!!
My niggers, I remember entering my first high school Dance at Serramonte High School in Daly City, California, it was September 1979, and man that was the first dance I'd ever gone to, and the DJ was playing this tune, and the place was thumpin' and rockin! Thanks for the memories Seand67 and Funkadelic! This has got to be one of the most iconic soul funk tunes of the 20th century. Peace, love, and prosperity to all!
Its been in my head"AGAIN" for 2 days now... I wonder what will happen when I play atomic dog or maggot brain!!! ILMAO.... Tru Soul, Funk, Dance, Jam Get down and party music....
This is Classick Funk that had you Jammin. If you were not in shape before you heard this song, then you were once you danced to it! And , and The Brother from the Spinners is singing in this cut as well. So we know there was definate continuity with the singers and music masters back then to make it all r o l e with alotta soul.Thank you for the post.... I am Jammin!!!
I remember this as a 12 13 year old!! lol dam great solo even though I prefer Heavy Metal this is good shit, todays so called creativity does not stand up to this after all of these years still great. I appreciate it even more.
We were all over the skating floor / disco floor on this one, "THE FULL 15 MINUTE VERSION" at top speed and still wasn't tired. Well, if you put it on now, "A FULL 15 SECONDS ON THE FLOOR" and a good massage afterward will do just fine.
@MinisterLynne That's Michael Hampton One of his most celebrated performances is the lead guitar solo on the Funkadelic hit single "(Not Just) Knee Deep" from 1979, as well the title track to the Brides Of Funkenstein's second album Never Buy Texas From A Cowboy.
They would play this at the teen disco I went to when they were closing down and all the dancers hit the floor on this on. You had to have great stamnia to last on this on song and very few kids could last on Knee Deep.
My mother loves this song....and dances all her old school dances and tells stories of her elementary school days(I guess that's when this song was out for her)!
In these days the music sounds were not computerized, those were real instruments,The moog and the synchronizer,is what was making tose sounds, they were inovaters of those instruments.i love those intruments they truly inhanced our inner plantery functionships.LMBO
Wow, what memories this song brings back, I remember one time as a freshman at Grambling, this song was played at the Christmas party, my girl and I danced to the entire song, afterwards all we could do was collapse for the next 30 minutes. LOL.. what a Funky good time we had... \m/ "Make my Funk Da P-Funk, I want my Funk Untouched."
Thanks so much for uploading the ENTIRE VERSION!!! Man still remember when i ran to the record store whn i was 14 back in 1979 to buy my P-FUNK ALBUM!! MUSIC AT IT'S BEST!!
this is the Jam i grew up listening to this music my mom worked in a record store part time in the 70's so music was always playin in our home all the way into the 8's when she passed good music is just in my blood LOL!!!
@Lar112 No, this is not the extended version, my friend. It is the original album version. Any radio station who plays the short version should have their license revoked and be kicked off the air. It is a sin to play the short version of this Funk MASTERPIECE!!!
THANK-YOU! For this long version...all these years I had no idea the lead vocals were the lead singer of the Spinners. Sounds soooooo MUCH better than the short version.
This Reminds me on GoodBurger :-)

Wow, what memories this song brings back, I remember one time as a freshman at Grambling, this song was played at the Christmas party, my girl and I danced to the entire song, afterwards all we could do was collapse for the next 30 minutes. LOL.. what a Funky good time we had... \m/ "Make my Funk Da P-Funk, I want my Funk Untouched."

MAN!!!!! At long last the Extended version of this PFUNK classic!!!! I am stunned!!! Thank you for posting this!!!!!
Lar112 5 months ago
@Lar112 No, this is not the extended version, my friend. It is the original album version. Any radio station who plays the short version should have their license revoked and be kicked off the air. It is a sin to play the short version of this Funk MASTERPIECE!!!

THANK-YOU! For this long version...all these years I had no idea the lead vocals were the lead singer of the Spinners. Sounds soooooo MUCH better than the short version.

@wellnesswithdeb--- Phillipe Wynn was co-lead along with Garry Shider... Garry really owned this cut... his vocals were just overpowering...
