Over int the UK we'd all seen Jeffrey Daniels do those "MJ" moves months earlier on Top Of The Pops with Shalamar. Michael saw them too and flew Jeffrey over so he could teach them to him for the special. MJ was propped up by so many people. Marvin stood up on his own, the real deal, as evidenced by this memorable and stirring solo performance.
He truly made the music of "forever"...music that no one ever gets tired of hearing. Such a sad loss, but never ever forgotten. "If there's a Rock and Roll Heaven, they've got a Hell of a Band!"
From the Motown 25th Anniversary Special - How much more moving, meaningful and genuine than Michael Jackson's vapid choreographed mime routine to Billy Jean, which gets far too much attention, IMHO.
@saturnaspider Yeah, but that moment was simply magical, he did things people had never seen. Although I might say that Marvin Gaye stole the show as it comes to soulfullness heartwarming. But the real star of that night was MJ. IMHO

This is perhaps the most electrifying performance I've ever witnessed on a television set.
And the actual Show "Motown 25" had so many many highs.
Beautiful.
