  • Jessica is truely an inspiration, not only for women, but everyone, young and old. She has journeyed around the world, alone, facing very difficult obsticles, stayed on track, kept her wits, senses and perservered. She arrived home yesterday, safely. She a remarkible young lady, courageous beyond her peers. I hope millions see her as an example in their own life journey. Love from Allen Park, Michigan USA

  • Welcome back jessica watson!!

  • Very easy for me to say and may not be feasible & i don't blame her for wanting to head straight into Sydney, but......

....it would be funny if she decides to sail north past Sydney and way up above the equator high into the Pacific, then back down to Sydney again. Nothing says she can't do that. Coz it'd be an 'in your face' way of covering all 'technical requirements'. Anyhow no matter what it is a heck of an achievement of endurance.

  • failed bit short made at least made it back home in 1 piece.

  • Crikey! There's reports that JW won't be regarded as holding the record for youngest round the world sailor for whatever WSSRC technicality.

BS. This must be recognised as a record coz she sailed in the world's hardest conditions, THE ROARING 40's and officially or unofficially, she's the YOUNGEST person to sail around the world.

And the welcoming crowd in Sydney will vote with their keels.

  • @FaddleonLSD

Technically WSSRC no longer recognise records set by <18 years old. However, Jessica has circumnavigated and crossed the equator, battling the high seas. She is a great sailor, and a great role model for younger people.. ONYA JESS, well DONE!

  • @dreamstreamstv ....and her Wiki page is telling. Near the end there is a list of people with excellent achievements, but very few who have sailed solo, non-stop and unassisted. Even after all the storms, the frontal systems have suddenly played devil's agent as she was crossing the Aussie bight. Don't care what anyone says, she's achieved something as rare as diamonds and it was a heck of a risk. Not to mention the discomfort. So yes, she did very well.

  • Jessica, if you see this, I have been hearing you have another boat shadowing you.

  • What a decent role model for our youth!

Go Jessica, we're all proud of you.

  • You go girl. You're doing more in your 16 years than most people do in their entire life time.

9Endon9 and timelleb.........you people are pathetic morons. This young lady will be famous and you two will still be living under a rock.

  • Good luck Jessica ;-) You're one brave dudette. Respect. Have a nice voyage! Regards from Norway

  • when she finishes her circumnavigation, she be able to afford her own private dentist, doctor, etc. so don't be so shallow ended, because jessica's literally in the deep end. She's got more guts than any of us and deserves all the accolades, she'll get, when she arrives back home.

  • She's doing fine!

  • She's going to die.

  • ich hab jetzt alles verfogt----die ist aus sdyney raus--wartet jetzt bis--mai2010--und kommt dann wieder in sydney an--die selbe masche wie die mondlandung---von armstrong--die waren nie auf dem mond

  • I think she'll be fine as long as she isnt caught up in the romance of an idea that the seas are a lovely place, because they are cruel and wont have any second thoughts about overturning boats. i wish her luck all the same :)

  • She IS a seasoned sailor and knows a thing or two about such stuff. The only people who entertain the notion of the sea being 'romancing' are those that know nothing about its true power - those who have never sailed.

  • Ellas' Pink Lady is a s&s 34ft supertough custom prepped ocean going vessel that has been design proven for this exact task 3TIMES BEFORE! People wrapped in cottonwool are people who never achieve much,so far as ever really having a spiritually life changing adventure.Death is all a part of life, whether you go out and really live it fully,or whether you live imprisoned in your own fear of death. Death happens no matter what.Don't bag this courageous young lady because she dares to REALLY LIVE!

  • Millions of us are followin' ya all the way Jess'. The pessimists and the cotton wool wrappers can have their say, but in the end, you are the only 16yo person IN HISTORY to do it! We'll be following your blogs and tracking you daily Champ! x0x0x0

  • All you people that keep Bagging her need to SHUT THE FUCK UP! • And I'll sign over to you my entire savings that she makes it.

  • I wish her good luck. This could be the adventure of a lifetime. I don't know how her parents will sleep nights knowing all the risks involved.

  • Yarrrr there be no pirates in the southern ocean.......t'will be plain sailin for the lass.

  • if anything goes wrong help won't be far away. exactly! at the expense of the tax payer. would rather see my hard earned going on some hospitals or roads, education or any kind of infrastructure

  • whats the big deal?she is going to have the whole world watching her every step of the way...it is impossible for her to be alone...if anything does go wrong help won't be to far away..the difficult thing will be the isolation and loneliness

  • If anything goes wrong help wont be far away LOL??

  • good luck!!:)

  • what a moronic set of comments. first, her route dosen't take her anywhere near pirate infested waters. thank God aussies still let people have the freedom to try great things and don't hamstring everyone with laws designed to keep the stupid alive.

  • She's a kid for crying out loud . What's moronic is allowing a CHILD travel the sea without any REAL experience . What's next ? an 11yr old wanting to sail across the sea? .

bad things must happen 1st before we learn . If her calculations predict smooth waters.. let me tell u - smooth waters can turn into rough waters in a heartbeat . NEVER UNDERESTIMATE .

  • No REAL experience??? She is a qualified Yachtmaster ya know, which means MANY thousands of sea miles under her belt.

  • no it doesnt, you only need 2000 miles as a minimum to get your yachtmaster. she is highly inexperienced and the project is dangerous. she has been lured into the terrible trap of the media by her pushy parents. It is an accident waiting to happen, foolhardy and downright dangerous.

  • No experience? Read up on her biography, you freaking moron!

  • Good Luck Jessica!!! Be safe Mate and have faith!.. your going to be just fine... and always remember that your NEVER alone out there... were all right there beside you until you make it home safely!! If you ever read this... send me a message and let me know how you are!!!

    Brad

  • i am conflicted on my opinion on all of this...on one hand i appreciate the view regarding her age, but at the same time, it's better then just getting drunk all day like so many teenage girls do

  • UHHHHHHHHHH! 0:20!

  • Circumnavigating with the right safety equipment is not foolhardy. And it seriously irritates me to hear people who want to prohibit others from doing what they want on the basis of protecting them. People do die when they attempt records like this. We have no problem imprisoning 16 year olds for crimes, but to let them make their own choices, choices which could kill them... Oh my God, that's unthinkable. Foken idiots...

  • Dangerous for sure. But what an experience!! wow

  • GO AND ENJOY, DON'T LISTEN TO ALL THIS STUPID COMMENTS, NEVER UNDERSTIMATE THE POWER OF YOUR DREAMS.

tommaso, 19 yrs old, from Milan (Italy) to Ulaanbaatar (Mongolia) by 4x4.

  • If she succeeds she will hold a worthless record (who cares about these records anyway?) and will at the same time be an inspiration for 15 or even 14-year olds to break her record and die in the process. My advice: Finish school and turn 18.

  • zip the hell up

  • zip the hell up

  • Watch out for the pirates ...! Enoy life as one of their brides. This is not managing risk. It is not like a Duke of Ed or Outwardbound challenge. Dumb dumb dumb!!!

  • I believe in her she has more courage than any of us

and it is so awesome that she is from Queensland!!

  • shame about her teeth

  • We don't respect foolhardiness.

  • I think that Jessica is smart and courageous and that most People wish they could do something like this, but are too fearful and afraid to ever try. Most of peoples negativity comes actually from Jealousy and not from concern for Jessica . A life lived in fear is a live not lived at all. Go Jessica, show all those lazy cowards what can be done ! You got our support and of all those people who respect real courage and greatness. 3 cheers for Jessica !

  • this will end badly

  • I agree. Apart from the dangers of a violent sea, she IS a young attractive woman; the multitude of pirates out there will think nothing of raping and murderring her far from any land and any law.

I honestly hope I am wrong tho, and of course, wish her luck.

  • Typical Queenslander 10 foot tall and bulletproof. or is she? best of luck Jessica. Or RIP.

  • 10 to 1 she will be rescued

50 to 1 she will be never be found

  • hahahahaha...

  • im wondering if the parents can sleep peacefully at night while their young daughter is out there in the middle of nowhere battling big waves? its unthinkable..

  • if she can hit a 63,000 tonne cargo ship...she can easily make the same mistake around rocks.

can anyone pls enlighten me on how is it that she was able to hit a 63,000 tonne cargo ship ? how can she not miss it ? cos you can see it on the horizon..especially if you're in it's path.

  • shit happens.

  • She saw it on her radar, then decided to have a sleep. Without turning on the collision warning system.

  • she hit the ship because she was asleep and had not turned on electronic safety equipment designed to warn her of approaching ships. the report into the collision found it was due to her own incompetence and i think it is arrogant and idiotic of her and her parents to continue

  • 0_0 have a think about it. It may have been 2am in the morning when she hit it. I'm sure she didn't plan on not sleeping for the entire trip just to stay up and keep a look out for boats :P

  • Well theres a bit more too it than that, for one, she didnt hit it. It hit her.

  • "she hit it"? Come on, at least remember that it actually hit her and she was in the right...

  • pirates will get her lol

  • the parents are genius. send there child on a boat. tell them to go around the world.very good idea

  • SUNSHINE Coast sailing experts have expressed growing concerns that Jessica Watson may be unprepared for her epic journey in the wake of a critical Maritime Services Queensland report.

THE FINDINGS • Jessica most probably dozed off before her vessel hit and was dragged alongside the cargo ship. • Did not turn on a device that would have warned her of a potential collision. • Could not produce a clear, plotted plan for her journey. • Had not developed a fatigue management plan.

  • I wish her good luck so long as she is appropriately prepared. Recent media reports indicate she may not be. In any other circumstance failure would be fine but if taxpayers need to foot the bill for a rescue Jessica will have no aussie public support whatsoever, An adventurer myself, I wish her all the best.

  • living the dream. the courage required to undertake such an adventure is both a product of youth wisdom and a desire to do something noteworthy.

    a modern day suffragette perhaps?

    best of luck jessica

  • no, do not compare her to the suffragette who were doing something noble and not for themselves - she is doing it for the record. the report into her own collision even found it was her fault.
