@paladintemplar Okay you do understand that if it wasn't for western RPGs there would of been no JRPGs? and that some of the more popular rpgs in Japan were western RPGs like Wizardry, Ultima, and Might and Magic *shock* fucking idiot weebos. Hell actually truth be told you don't even really like Jrpgs only the linear shit rpgs like the PS2 era Final Fantasys and the like and if you were forced to play a serious one like Dragon Quest and so on,you be whining about that too.
I have played most of the RPG video games ever made and this one is my own personal favorite. I am not sure why, but it seems that all the video game designers don't realize how fun it is to be able to explore a vast world on land AND SHIP! Playing U5 on rainy days is one of my fondest memories in my life.
I know what you mean. Also the simple graphics make the mind compensate them with more details found in the most highres of games. One should never under estimate the imagination.
The vastness, detail, exploration, secets, locations, story, interaction wit^h npc, right down to being able to camp/cook/sleep in the outdoors, just adds a depth detail not found in many days.
Few games projected me to a far off world as the ultima series. Truley magic on those rainy days as you put it.
I heard that the NES version was horrible but the original PC/C128 version was excellent, living up to the standard of quality that was set beforehand with Ultima III and Ultima IV.
This is the absolute worst game ever ported to the nes, completely unplayable and wretched. The opposite of IV. Comp version looks a little better though.
Ultima Online is awesome.

@nexusdawn Exactly what I am thinking.
The minor graphics let your phantasy add the rest.
Modern games often want to impress with reality graphics and fail in their attempt.
Ultima and alike didn`t try to be real in their graphics, so those games couldn`t fail :-)

I agree with SpecimenB, I too finds this is the best Ultima of the lot. I play the Atari ST version myself when I get the urge.
Also Ultima 5: Lazarus is a remake of it, but has a lot of bugs, some game stopping, but it's nice to try nonetheless.
I wonder what gods should we sacrifice virgins to, for Origin to spun-off as their own company again ! Good times !

No don't play the PC version! The Apple and C-64 versions will give you music!

Where can we get it?
taichibailongball 3 years ago
Well, Asimov used to have the Apple versions, but I don't think it is around anymore. Try Googling for it, and an emulator
UMpt835 3 years ago
There are fan-made patches that adds music from the other versions.

The C128 and Amiga versions rocked! They had wonderful music with them and the graphics on the Amiga version were awesome.
