Heroic Spirit EMIYA did not regain his memory exactly. He remembered key parts and people, but most of it had faded away with time. Archer never lies, but he does keep secrets. When he said his memory was "hazy", he was telling the truth. I think the closest times he came to lying was saying he did not know who he was, but he also could have been figurative about it, because his life was a false ideal.

Depends, do you consider taking a fatal blow then dissapearing into nothing death? If so yes, he got killed three times in three different routes... Man Archer need's a break. As for Archer not dying because he was made into a CG, well if you don't consider being brutally stabbed by about 30 different weapons and barely making a contract with Akasha not dying... One of the people he saves blames him, he gets hunted down and killed.

He dies, his 'soul' is sent to the throne of heroes.

Archer is dead before Fate starts, because he's a damn ghost.

Of all the things to be confused about, this is probably the most nonsensical.

I'm not sure if there is a Fate/stay night manga but the whole story is covered in the visual novel. The visual noves has 3 different "routes"; after finishing Fate (the one the anime follows) you can enter Unlimited Blade Works, which starts the same as Fate but progresses differently. After UBW there is Heaven's Feel, which introduces some new characters. I'm not sure if that answered any of your questions though.

There's no comparison between the anime and the visual novel (The VN is the source material, not the manga). Basically, your choices during the events effect the outcome (think of the "Choose your Adventure" books. Your choices decide what main route (out of 3) you take and what ending you get (out of 5 good/true and many bad). Just look for a torrent for Fate/Stay Night. Fate/Hollow Ataraxia isn't translated, though.

Pretty much archer is shiro from the future. Since tousaka messed up archers summoning is fucked over his memories. Archer remembered he was shiro and decided to kill shiro. im guessing due to the fact archers life must have bee pretty terrible. thats why archer told shiro to leave certain thoughts behind. I wish i had their ability man thatd be fucking amazing lol.

I'm fairly sure the point at which he gets his memories back (or if he loses them at all) depends on which route you choose in the game/visual novel.

Also, don't forget that the botched summoning also screwed over archer's stats. Otherwise, he'd have completely owned Berserker when they fought (canonically, he didn't even use UBW that time.)

Here's the thing. When Archer is summoned, he comes with INCOMPLETE memories. During the night, while Rin is asleep, he pieces it together. So he has his memories form the begginning of the novel, its just that circumstances change what he does.

From what ive been reading, archer is the adult form of Shiro, and it make since, since they have common abilities to re-enforce and project objects, such as swords and bows.

You already heard Archer is Shirou. He tries to kill Shirou because he wants to create a paradox that will make it so he never became a hero. The reason is because he is a counter-guardian, which means he's summoned during times where the destruction of the world and the extinction of humans is about to happen and kills the one's responsible. This causes him to be miserable, since this completely contradicts his ideal and forces him to kill some to save many. Read the VN, it's worth it.

Fate/stay Night is a game of the visual novel genre. Visual Novels are basically books with images and sounds.

It's japanese only, but the PC version has an unofficial english patch by Mirror Moon.

Yes, the whole story is in the game only, unless the Anime creators decide to create more seasons (unlikely). The Visual Novel is better, anyway (though the Anime isn't too bad). I'd recommend getting it. The only problem is the Hentai, but there's an option to turn it off so it's not a big problem. Also, as Akin said, it's more like a book than a game. The only "Gameplay" is choices you make along the story. Kind of like a "Choose your own Adventure" book.

The Holy Grail War invokes the spirits of Legendary Heroes to be summoned for the fight.

About a year or two after the events of Fate/Stay Night, Emiya failed to stop the death of Ilya. Overtaken by regret, a large series of events occur which ultimately leads to his death. As for his ability to be summoned, he is indeed a legendary hero; the winner of the Fifth Holy Grail War.

Archer's goal is to kill his former self; thereby stopping his life's futile pursuit of being a hero. Convinced by his younger self in a possible branch of storyline in the Fate game, after trying to murder him, he ends up dying believing his cause was indeed worthy.

Shirou, now linking that Archer was himself, mimics his very own version of Unlimited Blade Works to kill Gilgamesh in this story branch.

Note how in the anime, he began to use Archer's weapons and attacks.

Archer is only a posible future for Shirou how ever the shirou in F/SN has a different future then what Archer past was. So it's not like Archer is Shirou's fuure but the Shirou until F/SN started is Archer's past but as F/SN started Shirou started to took a different path then Archer. ( None of the 3 game path's are Archers. )

I hope Nasu revisits the character and expands on his past. I think it would be really interesting. Though, Archer's mysterious past is kind of what made him so interesting. Thinking how Shirou became so twisted, for example...

Well I have the answer why he became like that but it is really long. But in a nut shell it's becous as he grown beliving in Shirou's idealism ( "I'll save all" ) but he once fails BIG time saving houndreds of people and that is why he forms a pact whit the world and becomes a Counter Gardian. But that job is what shaterd his dreams. As one he was only called when someone was about to make a disaster and his job was to simply kill. "Kill some to save many." Opposite of Shirou's original logic.

1. he tells Shirou to imaging is only what he can do.

2. in the game, Shirou learns more from Archer during the Saber's training and makes Saber angry

4. Archer keeps telling shirou that he cannot save the world unless he fights/sacrifices someone.

Although for those who finished UBW know that Shirou won't become the same person Archer has become. If you want to know why, it's obvious from the differences in their UBW Reality Marble chants as they display the characters to their cores. This means that while the end result may be the same, the routes they take are different, and that Shirou will stay as idealistic and stupid as he is, and not become as cold and cynical as Archer has.

Of course. If anything, Fate route Shirou will become Archer. UBW realizes that his way is flawed and hypocritical, which he accepts. So he's prepared for his future. Fate Shirou still thinks that there's nothing wrong with it, living ignorantly. And Heaven's Feel Shirou (apart from being a total badass) compromises with reality and chooses one person to protect.
