  • is that a little bong on the shelf to his left?

  • Clerks 2 and Dogma were great flicks not to mention Red State and even Zack And Miri, granted they didn't pack the sentimental impact of Chasing Amy but they all had a very strong message. The greatest mark of a successful artist of any medium is his message. Chasing Amy was very simply the movie that pulled at the most hearts because it was about a common subject, love, but in my opinion it wasn't his best or even the easiest to relate to.

  • lol the bong in the background

  • @elspiclatino where?

  • @kristoferarnthors pause it at 26 seconds his fingers are pointing at it

  • @elspiclatino ah there :D

  • I actually like all his movies though lol. For real, every single one.

  • chasing amy is the greatest romance film of all time

  • dude there was no problem with the editing that was Genius

  • Fuck that. I still loved his movies after Chasing Amy. Dogma and Clerks 2 for example

  • Yeah , one of my favorites out of the so called SERIES !!!! I mean , I love them all but AMY is the best thought ought to me !

  • Clerks 1-2

jay and silent bob strike back

    Chasing Amy

  • Chasing Amy, the only movie that made me, a full grown man, cry. Damn you're sensitive heart Kevin Smith!!! Still, such a great movie. :)

  • And Fucking Dogma Is a fantastic Film IMO!

  • I fucking like Zack and Miri....

  • The part I hate most about Chasing Amy is how I watch Ben not get what he should from Joey. There were so many awkward moments where it seemed like he didn't get what he deserved in return from her.

  • whats this from?

  • is that a bong over his right shoulder?

  • that last little chuckle at 5:13 is priceless. Total stoner laugh.

  • It should take all the scenes and redo the movie exactly as he wants and put it on DVD!

  • his films are the best

  • Kevin smiths a don

  • I loved Chasing Amy. I understand where he's coming from, though... an artist never feels his work is ever done.

  • I have to rewatch this film as I remember disliking it in comparison to the others in the saga... Weird.

  • The Real Genius of Chasing Amy is that even though Mallrats was not the best film he has made, Chasing Amy brought all 3 films together in an ongoing story line.

For me it add's the element to Mallrats of being a story of a memory, therefore it takes on the feel of what it's really about. Comic books.

    It's just a Cartoon.

Chasing Amy let's us see who's memory it is we've already viewed.

At least no one got done in an uncomfortable place, No Dead Guys got Humped and the Guy got his Donkey back.

  • @americanbandwidth You mean like the back of a volkswagon?

  • I loved Chasing Amy but man the dude is insecure

  • I don't get why people give Kevin Smith such a hard time about his movies. Maybe to keep him humble? I don't know. I don't get it.

  • Oh FFS Shut up about the bong, yeah kevin smith smokes pot but you dont have to tell us every 5 posts about it. Noone gives a shit.

  • anyone else notice the bong behind him on his right(our left)

  • @M1STERL33T is it the kitty? i dont see shit...

  • @Tensidy other side ...against the wall one row lower than the kitty ...just above his shoulder

  • @M1STERL33T yea, i saw it like 2 minutes after i posted that

  • This is just my opinion, and I understand you may not agree, but I think Kevin Smith is a piece of shit....im not a troll, and Im not watching this video anymore

  • @BikiniDeathSquad Why waste your time commenting then. It's the contradiction most users have in this place. Just because you have an opinion does not mean you have to be an asshole about it. Deliberately going to a video you don't like just to comment can be judge as attention-whorism, or deep self-centerism that prevents you from letting the world be without your thoughts. When you realize that 99% of ppl don't care, you will focus more in what you like instead of trashing what others like.

  • i got it when i saw clerks... like 16 years ago

  • lol i wonder how many people noticed the bong in the background.

  • he is a true genius

  • "they should send me a fucking check" ahah i laughed at that

  • @4J2F0R i sound like a commercial right there )

  • The "curse" of Chasing Amy was it's stupid fucking ending, it was great otherwise.

  • @ZombieSteevo Why do you think the ending is stupid?

  • @TheHallowd

They didn't build up enough the fact that Banky was gay for Holden, it just didn't make sense when they brought it up. The fact that he suggested for them all to have sex just felt random, dunno like it wasn't backed by anything. Holden realized he shouldn't have cared about Alysa's past and that they were in love and shit, and then he decides they should have a 3 way and she left him. Dunno it was abrupt and i didn't like it :P

  • @ZombieSteevo

I can agree. I couldn't write a better one, but the ending isn't as stellar as, say, Clerks 2, which always makes me feel good. But this movie is timeless.. Such good dialogue. Dialogue is smith's forte, and I love that.

  • @DeeJaySF

So true...I still can't get enough of this movie.

  • "go to sleep 4am wake up 6am and your never tired" "you never feel tired" yeah buddy its called meth.. or coke...

  • @baalyezidi actually if he was on meth you would know it, he wouldn't be at the weight he is now, and he wouldn't be sleeping at all he would just work for 3 days straight and then crash for 3 days straight. coke only lasts about 30 minutes.

how about you think before you make some dumb comment

  • @neptune613 first of all it was a joke.. but since u took it seriously.. FAT PEOPLE are tweakers too idiot.. it really depends on the person if u are goign to loose weight or not.. people EAT on meth.. once ur body is already used to it.. yeah one line of coke is 30 minutes.. another line of coke is another 30... lol

  • Its ture! Kevin Smith hasn't made anything half decent since Chasing Amy, and it looks doubtful he ever will.

  • He's so entertaining in general and all his movies are good. Especially the 6 with the Jay and Silent Bob characters I them. 7 movies total if you include the Scream 3 cameo by Wes Craven. Look for them in A que when Jay recognises Gail Weathers I think.

  • kevin smith fucks babies.

  • Chasing Amy was and still is, his finest work. Heartfelt, but plenty of dick jokes....yet still managed to tell a compelling story.

  • @zcal0221 no fart jokes tho=[

  • @zcal0221 silliness. jay and silent bob strike back all day.

  • my favorite kevin smith film is mallrats

  • Chasing Amy is the one that is mentioned because it really spoke to so many people about fear and loss in relationships.

  • one of my faav shows

  • i loved all kevin smith films

  • The editing wasn't the problem with Chasing Amy - it was the story.

  • It's my fave movie by him. I think it's amazing

  • long live kevin smith

  • I like that one episode of Reaper that he did. And I wouldn't have minded seeing his heroes episode, but maybe if he'd written it too.

  • I love Chasing Amy, Jersey Girl, Clerks and Cop Out.

  • chasing amy=funny ass fuck

  • goddamn kevin smith is geeked like a white boi if hes on coke how is he still that fat?

  • I love Kevin smith.,.,,,My favorite director

  • is that a bong in the backround?

    nice

  • @gayblueduck You've got a great eye!! It sure looks like one!!

  • I wonder if had MALLRATS had been the huge success everyone expected would Smith, able to command bigger budgets, had gone straight into making DOGMA and had not made CHASING AMY at all.

  • his dvd collection is imense

  • @ZERO9098767 one ring to rule them all btw starwars rulez asshole

  • @ZERO9098767

tell that to his bank account.

  • @ZERO9098767 u're not serious are you?

  • are you kidding Chasing Amy was phenomenal!!!!

  • Poor George... Never gets any credit for Willow or Labyrinth.

  • I have only seen Clerks, Clerks 2, Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, and Chasing Amy. I love all those films that I have seen, so now Mr. Smith you have at least 2 fans.

  • @CBGMcnugget360 only thing missing is Mallrats and Dogma

  • @CBGMcnugget360 I've seen all them muhfuckasand loved every dick-and-fart joke except for Jersey Girl....Sorry but fuck Jersey Girl

  • This man inspires me to be a filmmaker...

  • Chasing Amy is my favorite Kevin Smith flick

  • @CereBeLLum1388 Mine too.

  • Clerks was amazingly awesome, it's done lots of justice in the media as a great movie. Although Mallrats isn't too well-liked. I don't understand that! One of my favorite KS movies. Chasing Amy was funny too, and the most emotionally impacting. Great soundtrack too. Dogma, Clerks 2, and Strike Back were all great movies, but just slightly under the awesomeness of the first three movies. This is how I see it. :P

  • @InnerSlash Dogma, clerks 2 and strike back are like phantom menace, attack of the clones, and revenge of the sith. Clerks, mallrats and chasing amy are like new hope, empire strikes back, and return of the jedi. Its not like episodes 1-3 were BAD, but they just aren't the same as the originals.

  • @aerialdude

I respectively disagree with your opinion on dogma, I would honestly replace that with like Cop Out or Jersey Girl or something

  • So, did Avid ever send Kevin the F$&#ing cheque?...S

  • How can anyone say he hasnt done anything good since "Chasing Amy"? Dogma was so awesome, I hardly know anyone who didnt like that movie!

  • Did anyone else feel a little weird when he first started moving his lips... o.O

  • 2:50 I wonder if he actually got a check.

A guy like him might actually persue it.

FYI Chasing Amy is highly praised as his best film. it holds a 91% on rotten tomatoes.

  • just stay the course Kevin, you have fans....dont think to much, and do it brother...by the way Jay has fans as well do more jay silent bob stuff its to fuckin funny specially when bob talks it just kills me..lol

  • He's such a good speaker. I wish he would go and give speeches more often. I know he's gotta make movies and shit (didn't like Cop Out by the way) but it's always interesting to hear him speak.

  • I love chasing Amy, it's in my top 3.

The only two romantic comedies I like that spring to mind are Chasing Amy and Roxanne.

  • @Webbula

What about As Good As It Gets?

  • @thrawnian Never seen it although I love Jackie N, thanks for the recommendation!

  • chasing amy is by far my favorite kevin smith movie

  • they should send me a fucking check

  • Considering he was on a tight budget & wat not editing or not i'm sure they did the best with wat they had 2 work with & i personally think the finishd project considering he was on a budget was great stuff & the heterosexist shit are u serious why should he have 2 apologize 4 that if that's how he feels he shouldn't have 2 apologize 4 his opinion. If u don't like then don't watch his movies dumb ass. Kevin Smith ur great I luv & respect u & ur work a million per. Keep it up man!! Much Luv =)

  • Here I was expecting him to apologize for his heterosexist bullshit in Chasing Amy. Of course not. He's an amoral jerk.

  • @CyborgNinja7 obviously you didn't understand it

  • @

    OneYearMovieProject You have to kidding...

  • "they should send me a fuckin' check"

  • Zack and Miri is his masterpiece (so far)

  • Chasing Amy is one of my favorite movies of all time. the writing is amazing i'm going to film school because of this man

  • I couldn't even hear him clearly about Lucas. what was that?

  • Love Kevin Smith.....

  • dialogue kev no dialogue shit movie! no one ever quotes effects dude stick to what you rock in,

  • Im torn when i watch stuff like this. its great to see him casual and opened and honest about his work and his ideas of its shortcomings. but then i also kinda feel like I dont want him ripping on a movie I LOVE (even if he did write direct produce it lol) once a movie is past over to the audience it becomes OUR movie. if you love a movie (or a person for that matter) you dont want ANYBODY bashing it. anybody else feel that way or just me in my crazy head?

  • I watched Chasing Amy just b4 watching this and I am so glad he pointed out the editing. It really is bad, but he is still a great writer.

  • an untalented kid's attempt at a studio comedy?!??!?! c'mon kev, give yourself some credit, mallrats is one of the funniest movies ever

  • i love avid :)

  • kev, fuck editing that could have been better. This flick did something NO flick ever did to me... it made cry laughing and cry because i was so moved by the drama and at the end emotions a flick makes you feel are fucking more important than the technical stuff!

  • I loved Mallrats when it came out. I still think it's got many worthy moments. The credits sequence alone means it'll always have a special place in my heart.

  • Hes rockin the Ganja! :O thats one stoned film maker ^^

  • its possible to like all u ever done i like all 7 that ive seen the only one havent gotten yet was Chasing Amy but and it looks really good i like all Kevin Smith films

  • Awesome!

  • that guy made kevin smith laugh, thats a lifelong dream for me

  • Kevin Smith is amazing ,my hero his movies are amazing havent seen chasing amy but want to all the other ones ive seen of his which are like 5 of them there amazing

  • I just saw Chasing Amy recently and I really enjoyed it.

  • i know he can talk and talk and i cant get enough of it.

  • ive listened to this guy talk all day.... hes a born talker no doubt. kinda surprising considering his movie roles. great guy. very smart.

  • @Charon4201 Not really look at the dialog, he writes great dialog in his movies

  • dude only 3 hrs of sleep? how is that possible

  • @mittROMNEY666 combat naps, or a ton of pot.

  • final cut pro is amazing.. avid is good for your last resort

  • Avid is pretty much the industry standard for fillm. (i just bit the hook)

  • I've always loved listening to Kevin Smith. He's always an interesting man.

  • ha the bong in the back is great

  • Come to the bright side of the internet Kevin...

  • ya Avid is great but Final Cut Pro makes it much faster to learn how to edit

  • r u serious?

  • Comment removed

  • IS THAT A BONG I SEE? Look past Kevin's left shoulder, the black "vase" seems suspiciously close to a bong. Maybe that's why he's so happy about free food at 1:22-1:27!!!!

    Silent Bob kick ass!

  • Well, considering Kevin Smith has been very public about the fact that he's now a pot smoker, I think it's safe to say that it's probably a bong behind him.

  • yep its a bong :3 looks A LOT like one of my friends bongs :P

  • Comment removed

  • This films in my top 3 I think, I always well up.

Holden fucks it all up with the threesome, what's he thinking?

  • Last Action Hero was awsome lol

  • I like the George Lucas crack at the end. It's particularly relevant that Lucas has already outed that he's not a good writer. The Prequels trilogy would've been a lot better if he had given a screenwriter his plot line and a better laden script could've given Star Wars a better outlook. Lucas's great at visual filmmaking, but Kevin Smith is both: he can make it look interesting when he tries, and when he's in the right writing flow, his stuff's poetry.

  • @83phatman The great irony of George Lucas and Star Wars. The movies would've been a lot better if he had been less involved with them, but at the same thing it wouldn't have happened without his vision.

I wish Leigh Bracket had survived enough to write more of the star wars scripts, and that Irvin Kershner would have directed more than just episode V.

  • @83phatman

Sir Tom Stoppard did a polish on the script for Revenge Of The Sith, which would've benefitted it massively.

  • This series is AWESOME!!!! Thank you for this!!

  • Raiz and Drunky youre so polite , don't you know on youtube youre supposed to swear and rant at each other?! As a reward for your good nature check out Kerou(.)net and get a boost (intellectual comedy)

  • i know! where's all the

    "fuck that fat cocksucker"?

  • What did that last guy say that made him laugh?

  • "ill tell you 3"....(3 good films Lucas made)

  • When the interviewer started telling Kevin Smith what he liked about Clerks & Chasing Amy and Kevin's just nodding and his eyes are saying "get to the point dude" that was kinda cringeworthy right there.

  • there needs to be another jay and silent bob movie

  • Maybe a Clerks 3, since that's where they came from, but Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back- an awesome round off to his film's universe- was like J and B's time in the limelight. I don't think he wants to overuse them or plotlines.

  • I used to think Kevin James & Kevin smith is the same person

  • i love mallrats

  • i love evry kevin smith movie except i havnt seen the last 2

  • dude i love mallrats.ive been told im bordie..

  • George Lucas made 4 good movies... He's forgetting American Graffiti

  • what the fuck is he wearing?

  • 1:13 truly what any filmmaker and me feels.

  • Kevin couldn't be more wrong when he said no one could like every film he's ever done. Every single film he's done I fuckin love. He always bashes Mallrats but that's like my favorite movie out of any film ever. Fuck Spielberg. Kevin Smith is the greatest director of all time. Any one who says different takes dick up the ass and cum down the throat.

  • And have you notice he talks about the same thing in everyone of his movies?

Love. The key element is Love.

Now I've never seen Zack and Miri but Growing up on Kevin Smith Movies Chasing Amy Being My First at maybe...9 years old. I've noticed every one of his movies deal with every aspect of Love. The Dark, The Light, it's like a Huge Fucking Homage to the philosphy of Star Wars.

    Know what I mean? :)

  • whats the curse??

  • I believe George Lucas gets a ZERO or just MAYBE a 1, of how many good movies he has made.

  • What about American Graffiti and Star Wars 4, 5 and 6?

  • Well hence the 1 I mentioned. American Graffiti was great. He only directed Star Wars 4. 5 & 6 were much much better because well he didn't direct. I think he can stick to writing, he pulls that off pretty well but directing is just not his thing.

  • You said "made" so I mentioned the other Star Wars since he came up with the stories and produced them. In terms of films he's directed though, you're right.

You didn't like Star Wars 4??

I think he's a great writer and director who has lost his way.

He was once a visionary who has been consumed by his massive ego... I refer to it as "The Dark Side"....

  • HAHAH, well said. I think that's a good way of putting it, he has lost his way. I definitely did enjoy Star Wars 4 but I don't know, somewhere down the line he lost his strength in writing anything too compelling and has also become quite the CGI whore. It hurts me to watch. Just like CG everywhere.

  • Yeah, I absolutely hate CG - models are what made the older movies so great. Like in Close Encounters of the Third Kind. The mothership is a model. It's a real, tangible object so it makes the movie that much more believable. CGI takes me out of the movie because I know I'm watching something that isn't real.

Lucas needs to realize that CGI isn't the answer. He pulled off the effects in 1977 perfectly fine so I don't see why he can't just do the same thing with his new movies.

  • I absolutely agree. Now don't get me wrong, I understand the need for CG. My friend actually made an interesting point, he said: "CGI is great when it's used as a tool, to help move a scene along"

A good example, as you mentioned 1977, Star Wars. The lightsaber is a CG tool, it doesn't take over the scene, works well for the fictional story and just plainly looks awesome but it's a small enough addition that the characters actions still matter.

  • One of my favourite CG moments in a movie that I believe is used effectively, the Spawn movie. I love his look, and that whole suit was real so it just looked awesome but when the mask morphs on/off his face, the deconstruction process is CGI and that's ok because they can't make that happen for real. That is an instance where you use CGI as a tool. It does what it needs to and leaves a good balance of the reality in the scene. I gotta say that mask morph looked seamless, blows my mind. Lol

  • You and I park our cars in the same garage.

  • Haha, sweet deal.

  • because he is an innovator. that would be like asking alexander ghram bell to stop after he came up with the phone. CGI is getting better ....I mean Battlestar Galactica has some amazing CGI moments and that was all done on the cheap.

  • Lucas is NOT an innovator. He USED to be a visionary, but has lost his way due to his over-bloated ego.

You want to talk CG innovation? Talk abotu the CG artists who do the work and not the guy who tells them to "figure it out."

  • Lucas is still a great innovator, he is however a very poor director. Remember that he just wrote and produced Empire and Return, Irvin Kershner and Richard Marquand directed those two respectively. The Lucas did direct the new SW movies, and we know how that went. But he's really great when he's writing and just keeping his vision while leaving the directors chair to someone more competent in that aspect.

  • How is Lucas an innovator?
