  • The answer to your query is simple: have a toroidal window placed in the center of your home, with an inside courtyard. Plant a large Linden tree there. Bees will flock to it, and you will be able to observe them, especially when the tree dies, and it becomes a more ideal nest location. Leave it "open air" so the temperature is self-regulated by the bees.

  • What about ants?

  • Hey that is a pretty cool idea.

  • i always drempt of a wholewall ant farm

ended up with a wholewall termites..

put some thought into the ant farm idea or mabe a worm farm wall with a few giant cockroachs ??

  • eww, roaches?

but yea, ive always wanted an antfarm wall, i also kinda want an antfarm sink, just because that would be trippy as shit

  • Do I have to point out that bees die? You´d end up with dead and dying bees all over your house.

Would last longer with real beehives but you´d still have problems, especially in Vegas :P I read something about a construction that lets you see the bees in a special beehive you could have like a box on the wall. But it´s not that bright.

I guess the news that pollinating insects are dying off or disappearing also didn´t pass by your ears? Cool idea, yes, but hard to sustain for a longer time.

  • Cool.

Steve Vai, one of if not THE greatest guitarists alive, is a beekeeper.

Now two cool dudes I respect are into bees.

    Hmmmm....

  • If they got to be cooled, you could either buy you a vacation home in Alaska and do it there, or maybe put them in a wall in a walk in freezer. Have you considered maybe doing it with an ant farm instead of a bee hive? You probably wouldn't have to cool them down.

  • Penn Gilette's been posting random shit to the internet since the mid-80's. It's not a new behavior of his.

  • complaining about something meaningless being posted on youtube is like complaining that

    Mcdonalds serves hamburgers.

  • Wow...baz needs to get a life.

Penn suggests a cool idea and asks for help...and baz basicaly calls him an idiot. Weak.

Does anyone know a liquid coolent method relevent to penns question?

  • yea, this wasnt just random, he was asking for ideas.

liquid cooling on a wall is easy, because its a verticle flat.

you would basically make a waterfall, give it a high enough pressure to flow out, and a low enough pressure to let it flow between the wall material (probably another sheet of glass against the bees) the bottom could either collect and recool the water, or redirect it for other purposes, or both, recool some, water the flowers with the rest.

  • Now that would look cool. A bee wall highlighted by a waterfall... With a few metal heat sinks on it...perhaps a sheet cut to look like beez... or butterflies (being stung to death).

It would have to be hooked up to a gas powered back up generator too...becouse you can't have animals relying on the power grid. Thats just cruel.

  • Penn, you are killing me.

    1. Cool idea.

    2. It's Vegas!!! Cash is king, pay someone off. Does not matter which city, all Inspectors love cash.

    3. Just build it...it's a wall in your house....who will know. Well, now they do.

  • Before i even clicked on this video i already assumed that penn had a wall in his house full of bees.. i was let down to find out he hasn't yet done it :( maybe someday penn

  • I have thought that myself not a whole wall but more of framed on the wall.Ant farm too

  • I've always said: 'beauty's in the eye of the bee holder.'

  • If the bees could exit the building it would a safety hazard to neighbors as well as guests (bee stings can be deadly to those with allergies, stock epinephrine) If the hive is enclosed it becomes a heating and cooling problem? Are there laws against contained bees or just open hives? Simple ventilation with mesh screens could keep bees in and let air flow (weather proofed to avoid flooding during rain) with fans, AC or swamp coolers to push air throughout the hive if necessary.

  • You could try making the said house in the UP of Michigan. No worries about heat.

Or, some forced draft ventilation system could take care of the heat.

Don't know about the state laws! Maybe a seperate add-on to the house like that.

Personally, I'd be a bit scared to have a colony of stinging bees around.

  • Hey Penn....I'm going to have to side with the city of Las Vegas on this one, sorry man.....uh, what about investing in a honey plant or something? They would be safer and easier...at least one would think

  • Thanks for the change of pace and talking 'bout the REALLY important stuff!

  • Wouldn't the sound of those bees buzzing drive you nuts after awhile? Would you even hear them buzzing?

  • It's not illegal unless you get caught, all you need to do is find a contracted who'd be willing to do it

  • I want a wall of bees.

Who wouldn't want a wall of bees?

(if you don't want a wall of bees, you suck)

  • I'd rather have an ant colony wall.

  • There used to be a small local museum close to where I live in the 60s which had a visible hive like this set into a wall with a tube to the outside world on the other side for the bees to go about their business. When I was a child i used to love going there just to watch the bees

  • wow i don't know...

  • APPROVAL!

I don't need no stinkin approval!

  • FUCK THE POLEECE!!!

  • That would be an awesome wall!

  • Wasn't there a B-movie where they did this?

    The Deadly Bees, I think.

  • Keeping a bee wall cooled would not be a major engineering feat. A flat shell and U-tube type cooling panel behind the visible wall could easily keep the bees and other household inhabitants comfortable.

  • A bee wall huh?

  • That would be a neat Idea, sorta scary but neat.

  • nice idea

  • Use large flat screens and link them together. Then run a video of a hive. Ba-bing, bee wall. You can even make it so some of them go from screen to screen.

  • A wall of Bees, that is crazy! If I hear one bug buzzzing around while I'm trying to sleep, I'll spend the whole night trying to get rid of it, but an entire wall of bees? I think I'd go crazy.

  • This video pretty much made my day. Thank you, Penn.

  • This video pretty much made my day. Thank you, Penn.

  • Just keep your scrote away from those insects.

  • It's gotta be a loophole somewhere in that law.

  • What you do is you put honey on your wall and you write out "Happy Birthday Spray, I'm disappointed in you!" because your son Spraynard got a B on his report card. Then the bees would attach to the honey and form a sentence of bees. Genius.

  • Nice idea, but you have kids, that would be kind of irresponsible.

  • loihrr4yi.hvhv

  • wouldn't you prefer ants?

  • That's an awesoem idea, tho if the glass somehow broke you would be fucked

  • Reminds Me Of The Video About Him Being Stung On The Balls

  • I wanted to have a wall of beer cans one time. I'm so retarded :)

I hope that you get your wall o' bee's Penn.

  • Aren't the Mormons experts on this kind of thing?

Oh wait ... you might have pissed them off in the past with your opinions on crazy religions. Now they'll never help you with your bee wall.

  • could you hook me up with some magic bees?

    $10/gram

  • wow! that actually is a good idea, it would be impossible to find it boring, they're always moving and developing. Let us know if you found a way to solve the problem, I'm interested. I'm sorry I couldn't help

  • A wall of bees would be awesome! Just don't let them sting you Penn or you'll have ball trouble again. I hate to bring it up but i'm a concerned fan. And as for wanting help maybe call the Berkshire Museum in Pittsfield MA. they dont have a whole wall but they do have the same deal were you can see the bees from inside but they can fly out a tube to get outside.

  • While some sort of cooling system might be possible I don't really see away around laws prohibiting apiaries.

  • That is a very cool idea. Zoning laws, some counties in the state I live in, arkansas, lol, don't poke fun at that, have almost no zoning laws. I can build my own house out of cow dung if i wanted to in some counties. Check the zoning laws for counties near las vegas. I think you would be doing the bees a service by giving them a safe home, they need one right now, don't they?

  • Bee wall sounds awesome. your awesome !!!!!!

  • Good luck with your bee wall.

  • The funny thing is that if you google "wall of bees" you just get people who wanted advice how to get RID of bees in their wall :-)

  • someone need to genetically engineer a bee with no stinger thats green colored. No stings for people, the association of "green" and good and also the green would make then more difficult to see as they are sitting on flowers.

  • Penn=Genius

  • You can fix the excess heat problem by water cooling the hive with refrigerated water pipes running along the back of the hive and/or between the wall sections. Similar systems are used in enthusiast computers to keep overclocked CPU's cool.

You'd probably need a to higher an engineer to design an effective system customized to your needs, but this should be quite possible. An engineer may also be able to explore other ideas I haven't thought of.

  • i don't know where you could do it, but i think its a fantastic idea!

  • woah...cool

  • ...wouldn't it be noisy? I couldn't sleep at night if that was in my house - even soundproofed I'd THINK I could hear them.

Why not just fake it? Develop some kind of automated artificial thing that LOOKED like a wall of bees, and you tell your guests it's real and they look at it and it looks real even close up but you're not breaking any city ordinances cuz it's a trick.

I mean, isn't that what you DO, Penn? Oh wait, I forgot. You don't read responses. Someone else reads them for you.

  • Brilliant!

  • You're beyond dumb...

  • sounds like an interesting concept.

  • solution: get an AC and forget the laws.

  • awsome

  • cool

  • that would be so bad ass also your house would probably get raided for growing pot because of the heat signature

  • Cooool, I've always wanted an ant farm wall! ;D

  • Hey I'm the first! Bitchen! Why not make it a ceiling? That way it wouldn't have to be potentially load bearing, there would be minimal chance of someone having an accident and disturbing the bees or even breaking the glass, the cooling system you used could be much more easily hidden, and if it was in your bedroom, you could watch it during sex. How much fun would that be (no pun intended)?

  • I must say penn, thats an intelligent idea.

  • lol my name isnt jnjmnbhyftjusgydfhhjjk really

  • I have the same dream idea with an entire wall antfarm

  • Whatever you do I think its wise not to invite a PETA member into your house if your walls are going to be made of bee colonies. You know how crazy they will become if they see animals confined within a spece.

  • Try ants

  • Bee wall would be fuckin' awesome, but they do produce alot of excess heat when they're all clumped together like that.

That's how they kill hive invaders, too.

  • A wall of bees would make me nervous.

  • That would be so sick. What about ants?

  • wouldn't it make it hard to sleep at night with all the constant buzzing?

  • I don't think I could ever get used to the constant buzzing, and I've seen too many bee-related horror movies to ever have them around me all the time.

  • I think the constant buzzing would be far too annoying, plus, I don't think I could ever feel comfortable with having little flying, stinging insects all around me.

  • i dont know penn but it sounds badass

  • this is the bees knees!

    ah, sheesh, lame. sorry.

  • You should get a termite wall.

  • that's great stuff.

  • i have no idea, but bees are cool so i would totally dig a wall of bees. haha

  • When I grew up in CT, my parents had friends that had a bees nest in a glass window - I thought it was so cool. Now I don't ant any "pests" in my house. Even sparrows nesting piss me off. What animals bugs ...

could you have in your house in the desert?

  • Cool Idea.

It would also be great to harvest the honey.

  • Runnin out of ideas Penn?

  • put all the bees in the wall and then shoot an RPG at the white house

  • A bee wall would be a nice idea, but I guess you'll get stung by the price.

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

But seriously, I'm cnidophobic so don't laugh or you're a really mean person and hurting my feelings.

WHY DO YOU WANT TO HURT ME??? ALL I'VE EVER DONE IS LOVE YOU!!!

    Cheerio!

  • Wall of bees would be cool... And all the honey you could have!

A nice tap running next to your faucet.

  • oh Penn, you so crazy!

  • How about a wall made up of LCD screens, and then you have a video of those bees just looping over and over. Wait, now thinking about it, LCD screens also get kinda hot. Probably hotter than those bees would.

  • cool plan, it'd be awesome having my own beehive wall

  • Now that's just a really cool idea.

  • insted of having a whole wall of bees, why not put afew slim hives inside the wall, where windows would be.

  • No, Moxie! Don't throw that at the bee wall! *smash* *bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz*

    There goes my scrotum.

  • Wouldn't it feel awkward when you were jacking off knowing that thousands of bees were watching you..

  • Good luck on that one. - Talk to a contractor, and realize that Bees do cause Mold and Mildew problems which causes walls to rot. The Honey causes mold and rot... and you wouldn't be able to eat the stuff... let along make candles off of them.

  • ANOTHER youtube video about beewalls? come on

  • first!

  • i think a wall of ants would be easier;

    one giant ant farm wall!

  • I've always wanted a whole wall that was a fish tank. Kinda similar.

  • Wow! I am an hour away from where you are!

    -EH

  • A bee wall would be great because than you can get fresh honey every day.

  • Party at your house, Penn? Wish I could come hang out. v.v

  • i like bees

  • That's funny cause I once imagined having a plexiglas wall be slightly underground, so worms and ants could be watched, and with about 2' of above-ground exposed at the top to allow some sunlight into the room, and a 2' tall curtain to block the light when needed.

  • De gustibus non est disputandum! I've always liked the aquarium wall myself. How about a bee wall, an ant farm wall, and an aquarium wall? The 4th wall could be a giant digital television wall playing porn 24/7.

  • First bee balls, then bee walls? =)

  • Well I don't know how to get that done, but I can't imagine it would be that difficult to ventilate the cage to keep it cool...

  • That would be awesome.

  • ahaha.. what about ants?

  • Okay that is pretty cool.

Guess it's a bit more original than the whole aquarium walls.

  • First! Sorry... just had to do it.

  • Sounds like such a cool idea. I'm sorry that I can't help you. Hopefully somebody here has some useful info.

  • What's that I should write again?

  • Desu

  • Well, we can always dream, can't we? I like the honeycomb pattern, but the bees being so close to me would make me a little nervous about doing something like this. There's wallpaper for people like me, though. :)

You'd have to think of the 'what if?' scenario because there could be a few problems with the state, but if you can find a way to do it, then good luck with the project. I don't know enough much about the subject to help too much, though.

  • Build it yourself. Just don't tell the zoning commission or whoever oversees that. And your rich, just use an A/C to cool them. What's the worst they will do, tell you to remove it?

  • Your a kook. And, I love ya

  • That would be so awesome!!

  • that would be sweet

  • Kudos on the Matt Helm reference. Dean was a heck of an actor. As for bees, well good for you if you like them in your wall. Me, I more into drywall and foam insulation.

  • yes, but they would not be live bees...

  • Interesting, bees creep me out though!

  • WTF ?! comment approval ?!

  • don't know, but will check it out for you

  • first

  • badass

  • First comment

  • with the election in less than 12 hours I though this would be something relivent, maybe Penn is just sick of it. Bbut that would be a cool house.

  • I think it'd be cool

  • Be careful. PETA's watching (rolls eyes).

  • I have always wanted a whole glass floor of a hallway with a large manta ray tank under it.. A wall of bees would be cazy 0.0

  • a wall of bees... that would not be a good idea. it'd probably be a risk for the neighborhood.

  • You're not Matt Helm?

  • a bee wall?

    nice

  • Why are you always with a pink shirt?
