  • YOU WIN FIVE HUNDRED MILLION DOLLARS!!!!!

  • I like how they used the "Break The Bank" theme music when he won it all. Hard to hear, but it's there.

  • isn't that the break the bank theme playing?

  • @Wheeloffortunefan999

It was only for this tournament.

  • Question...did he have to win a three out of five match to win the money? Or did he have to win just one game? I can't remember. Thanks!

  • It was three out of five games, Rob won three straight!

  • @richie19190 It was a 3 out of 5 game match and he won 3 straight.

  • @BriSchwa82 Thanks! I have seen the entire tournament. It is on here courtesy of thewhammy83. It is missing the first 5 preliminary matches, but it shows the last 3 preliminaries plus all the Quarterfinal games Semifinal Games and the Final Match. Outstanding tournament.

  • does anyone remember who the other

champions were who took part in this tournement

  • Anyway, what was the winning question? I know the answer was Mayflower, but I could barely hear the question (the whole thing, in fact).

  • I can barely hear the question..what was it? I knew the answer was Mayflower.

  • The same here rob had said the mayflower compact

  • Love the "Break The Bank" Theme Music.

  • I believe this was the $1,000,000 Tournament, and THAT should have been the top prize, not the half-mil.

  • STRIKE ONE.

  • that $500,000 back then is probably worth like $10 million now

  • Just for your information, thewhammy83 on his channel has uploaded the $1,000,000 Tournament of Champions that was on GSN Saturday Night. They have from almost the beginning to almost the end of the quarterfinal round. I am pretty sure he will upload the rest of the tournament soon. Just thought I would let you know. And my congratulations to you uncle Robby for winning the tournamernt and I want to say that this is my favorite game show and this is the 1st time I have ever seen this tournament.

  • When was the last Tournament of Champions competed on The Joker's Wild?

  • There might have been another TOC after this one, I have it recorded somewhere and I'll try to find it and put it on here. Thanks so much!

  • Appreciate the answer. Really looking forward to seeing it. Will bring back alot of memories for me as this was my favorite show when I was young. Thanks again!

  • Nope, after this tournament was done..that was it. They didn't do any more TOC's due to winnings cap limitations.

  • THIS was it, for some reason.

  • Was he the biggest game show winner of the time?

  • yes he was

  • Yes if you include both regular game play and tournament of champion play. If regular game play is your only criteria, however, then no he was not.

  • MAYFLOWER COMPACT

  • What answer did he say before he wins $500,000?

  • the mayflower of compact

  • Yes. Sorry about the history before he wins $500,000 and it rains confetti and balloons.

  • Mayflower Combat.

  • WHEN IN THE 1980S?

  • I think 1980 I'm not sure when this show was taped.

  • It would be 1980. In 1977 the top prize in the TOC was $50K, then $100K in '78 and $250K in '79.

  • Notice the Break the Bank 1970's theme music played to celebrate the champion's victory

  • I wish GSN would replay the Syndicated version of this show. This is one of my favorite shows!

  • I know it, the only time I saw the syndicated show of this was when GSN did the 50 greatest game shows of all time, they need to bring this show back, I like it as well.

  • This should have been the TJW $1,000,000,000 and Griffin should have won $500,000,000!!!!

  • That was the 80's.

  • $1 million was the total purse of the tournament, with the winner receiving half and the other half divided among the remaining 15 players depending on how well they did.

  • The winner got half that prize..yes (meaning $250K+$250K for the charity of their choice, in Rob's case, the March of Dimes. The runner-up got $200,000 (half of that going to charity, in this case, Big Brothers Big Sisters). But no matter where they finished, half of each tournament participant's winnings went to charity.

  • casandra dooley is the champion who

    rob defeated in the finals

  • Yep, and as I said, she got $200,000; half of that went to Big Brothers Big Sisters.

  • The name is Rob Griffin, not Griffith.

  • How far did Hal Shear make it in this tournament? I might have thought he would've won, oh well.

  • I think Hal Shear was on for a few shows until he was beaten, I'll have to go back and find out.
