He had NFL's best blend of flat-out speed, & quickness getting off the line & coming out of cuts. He had great concentration & athletic skills to make difficult catch. He was best getting open on deep curl, where a shoddy tackle warranted a deadly dose of his explosive running ability. His show would begin just after the catch, but he would adjust well to the ball in the air. He could go up & get the ball with the best, & he was slippery & dangerous on deep posts & fly routes on a spread field
Some people don't remember that he started with the New Orleans Saints.Wes Chandler,Ike Harris@ receiver,Henry Childs@tight end,Chuck Muncie/Tony Galbreath in the backfield and Archie Manning was the quarterback.
@fatcatsathat I concur, Wes is a good friend and i am thankful that he was my mentor in college as a WR. Defensive backs that were better than average had to raise the bar or get delt with. Coach you have my vote, you taught me so I know what you can do and the Hall of Fame is deservent.
@Rumplestiltskin2100 I also believe that if John Jefferson had not been traded, he would be in the Hall of Fame as well. Chandler and Jefferson were both equal in terms of talents and abilities. I also believe that Ed White, Russ Washington and Doug Wilkerson belong in Canton as well because they were vital to Dan Fout's success as a passer.
@fatcatsathat Charger G Doug Wilkerson, top 2 or 3 guards in NFL for decade and half. He bench pressed 500 & had quickness to go with it.When he pulled,he got out in front with best of them. He was excellent pass blocker. Yes,he was an expert at holding but that's not dirty football. He kept good base, and whipped people with know-how. Incredible conditioning kept him doing all this from 1971(seen vs. Alzado) right on through mid-80s.He was also best there was returning to action after injury.
All I have to say is Go Gators and A-Phi my fraternity brother!! That is a theta sigma chapter brother right there! 06!!
