  • the rainbow is another beautiful song from talk talk Mark Hollis

  • always been interested in talk talk/hollis...the guy sho got talent!!!...

  • Long awaited LP Reissue! Buy it at Norman Records!

  • this song makes me want to just float away......how can music make you feel like this?? ....i remember getting this when it came out and spent all day listening to it....sublime even after all these years.

  • is he jewish or not

  • @TheJewwatcher

He is a person only a person like you!

  • Talk Talk. What a great band of the 80s.Made some timeless tracks and wow what a voice. So much better than the music of today.

  • beautiful song , superb video, thankyou so much !

  • The comment 'exit quietly through the back door' is more than food for thought. That is pure truth on several levels. His muse led him to a place where the cold hard facts of commerce and the old model of record companies didn't align with his vision. The funny thing is that he could come back now, fully, on his own terms and with all artistic control - because of the internet. I am sure he knows this, but perhaps he's just used to whatever life he grew into when that 'back door' quietly closed.

  • @LApirtle I do know that we (those of us who know and love this solo record) can take heart in knowing that the record sits out there, ready to blow the mind and change the life of those lucky souls who are drawn to it. It still resonates with me after all these years, that's for sure. BTW I know The Wire did something, a review or a feature or maybe an interview when this came out in 97/98... but I lost the issue. If anyone has details on that pls post.

  • Can you imagine I am actually a metal fan but now that I've discovered Mark Hollis I am considering changing music style.... :) He is absolutely brilliant!!!!

What a voice! And hey this man can sing live unlike many others...

  • @cyberpriest10 don't change, just diversify....

  • Simply beautiful. Mark Hollis is one lucky SOB. What a talent.

  • Happy birthday, Mark. Thanks for all of the great music.

  • To all of the real music lovers, i.e. fans of Talk Talk - I too feel cheated by not hearing new songs from Mr Hollis - it seems miserly to me that Mark has chosen to keep his voice to himself - but I have no choice but to respect his decision. It's just sad, that's all.

  • @amimillie Is true we have no choice I only hope that this attitude makes him stay in peace.

  • Mark will be 56 soon. I can only wonder what his voice sounds like now with the maturity and experience warming it further. It's hard to miss someone I've not met, but in his case, it seems clearly so.

  • i have all the cds of talk talk, never get bored, always finding something new in the songs, and yes i hate chart music,my wife thinks i need to hear other stuff, why do i ,i know what i like, she listens to r n b,so what does she know, naff all hahaha

  • thankyou

  • Absolutely Beautiful Mark. Oh...how I wish you were here...creating, inspiring...

  • Amazing album

  • This is a beautiful song that softly echoes in my dreams...

  • G'day, I agree with all comments posted. Well played toorlooo. Terrific stuff. And sensational degree7; Mark deserves it!!

  • degree7 fantastic and correct..I will do the same...because my opinion is the same...Mark..is a genius

  • I was actually going to download this album illegally, but I thought, no, I owe Mark Hollis more than that.

So I'm paying full price for this magnificent work. Shame it's only £15, because it's not nearly worth it's weight in diamonds.

  • @ degree7 Where I buy this album? in my country don´t have

  • @Merlina68s

You can download it off of Itunes, that's what I did.

Or you can buy it off of Amazon.

  • @degree7 Amen to that mate!

  • superbe...merci mark

  • excellent !...

Magnifique album solo de Mark Hollis... de même pour les 2 derniers cd de Talk Talk: Spirit of eden (1988) et Laughing stock (1991)

    Amicalement !....(Belgique)

  • The sound of an Artist being given the keys to the kingdom and returning with Art.

  • A beautifully done video. Thank you!

  • Did anybody recognize Mark Hollis's influence on Thom York?

  • I have. Thom Yorke is basically like the modern day Mark Hollis. The troubled artist receiving stress from the greedy record labels.

  • what a beautiful song,, hollis had an incredible voice.

  • this does make me proud to be british, our best thing to come out of the uk,fact, its good all other nations love talk talk too,

  • i couldnt live without music, there is a song for every mood i am in and every feeling i have ever felt : )

we are blessed to have youtube and music :)

  • I first heard this on XM's Hearts of Space program late one night. I was home alone online. Some of the best late night contemplate alone music I have ever heard. Being from the US, I never heard of Mark Hollis. I went onto Amazon and ordered two albums, one Talk Talk and the other a solo album.

  • I heard of Mark Hollis through the same Hearts of space show... :) Glad I did

  • Dear Mark, I'm 42 this, just this to demostrate that pure music is not in the 80's in the success, I met you in Rome (Palaeur) in a concert (Idon't remenber which! one!): none recognize you, but I did and spoke to you"But, you are talk talk!!". Last your album is pure, and out of commercial european success.

Last is always the best: I remember ...the yesterday's.. it's our life!

  • Music that speaks to you

  • better than anything today can offer,so gracful

  • His solo album will transcend time!

  • Magnificent-pure genius

  • Song from 1986 (same album different sound) by Mark david Hollis (Talk Talk).

    Beautiful.

  • the guys fucking brilliant...where the fuck is he?

  • Have just purchased the album. Best summed up as muted eloquence.

    Superb.

  • his voice is haunting.

  • Awesome. Everytime I see a shot of Mark Hollis smiling I can't help smiling too. One of those infectious smiles.

  • Spectacular!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • just amazing, marks brother allegedly died of overdose so i dont think they would do shit like drugs, amazing talent

  • Your wrong about the smack

  • trop bon ça me manque de ne plus les voirs, grand chanteur mé bcp de souffrances pour un seul homme,tu nous manque mark ainsi que talk talk....

  • When I read the title of this song I was so excited! For obvious reasons - sounds nothing like that album though... I love the way each album is an evolution from the last: this is the perfect follow-up to LS. After creating the finest music in history what a magnificent way to exit the music industry, quietly through the back door... & nobody's ever heard of it (or him).

The world can have chris martin, lennon, & friggin bono with their shallow radio-friendly 1-dimensional sheep music.

  • @JohnoEAL

Well said I couldn't agree with you more.

    Well said indeed!

  • @JohnoEAL I'm sure if Mark Hollis was to hear your effusive praise, he would tell you to have a listen to some classical music. I would suggest you investigate the worlds greatest living composer; I refer to the Estonian composer Arvo Part. Like much of Talk Talk/Hollis's best music, it requires some effort but the rewards more than make up for it. Perhaps you could start with "Fratres", "Cantus in memory of Benjamin Britten" & my personal favourite "De profundis".

  • Comment removed

  • @JohnoEAL John Lennon doesn't belong in that last sentence.

  • @JohnoEAL lennon wtf? john lennon is a fucking legend. who are you?

  • mark hollis es uno de esos compositores que nos dejan con la intriga.dá un poco de bronca su retíro de la musica.

  • I Just bought the Mark Hollis cd and it is beautiful.

  • Mark Hollis is the type of artist (singer/songwriter/musician) that inspires and excites other artists. Sadly underrated , his musical achievements should be gracefully celebrated for their purity of passion and creative expression.

Viva Mark Hollis~ You are a living legend!!!

    Peace XD

  • brilliant voice and great song

  • good

  • The way Hollis exited music was as gracious as his music

  • he aint dead mate

  • beautiful : )

  • A man with a voice that resembles Peter Gabriel devoid of all pretentiousness, just belting out these remarkably stark, plaintive songs without thought about money or record companies. What music should be.

  • Mark Hollis will eventually be recognized as one of the most important figures in music for the time he was active. This solo record was full of so much raw emotion it isn't hard to accept that it was the curtain call... but oh to have new music from him.

  • anger is an energy

    anger is an energy

    anger is an energy

    anger is an energy

  • Can somebody please tell me what on the image on the album. Looks like some squashed and skinned hamster. It's been bugging me for too long...

  • It is a kind of bread, think it was Italian origin....

  • Aha! A little tastier than hamster roadkill. Thanks.

  • You`re welcome.

  • I think it's like the bread that you get at communion.

  • hollis is a force of nature

  • This man has the most incredible voice I have ever heard. What a genius. Please, Mark, come back!

  • ?????? confusion??? "This man has the most incredible voice I have ever heard" WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN FOR THE LAST 30 YEARS !!!!!

  • @hellobooom listen then once to dean martino ... or bing crosby ... you can also try with franco corelli

  • What can I say, this is beyond comparison

  • Mark, come back, a Talk Talk reunion would fill Wembley and Id be at the front!

  • totally unrated. People go on about Lennon but never will you ever hear so much emotion in a voice than Mr Hollis,s.

  • @deancooky I beg to differ. You need to listen to Liz Fraser (Cocteau Twins).

  • Beautiful video and song Toorlooo!!

where to find the photo 0:17 ? please!!

  • Comment removed

  • Haunting....Nobody can touch Hollis.

  • My last name is hollis!

  • @Regretdat Would I be right in thinking that it's a Jewish name?

  • aaaaaaaaaaah,

    six stars

  • jarngr, you miss the point of talk talks music,as all us fans understand, chill out and listen, drugs dont get used in everything,

  • Wish you were here-Mark Hollis the Syd Barrett of the 80's-come out to play again & show up today's crap

  • Comment removed

  • can you blame him? if i made an album this brilliant id retire from music too. why even bother trying to top it.

  • Hollis set out to make timeless music and he and Talk Talk did it... He may come back if there is something to say musical that would inspire him to make another LP. He is done for now it seems.

  • Does anyone know where mark is????? He has haunted my mind for a long time.

  • no you idiot, Mark Hollis was ANTI-heroin. Do you think anyone off their tits on junk gets up off their arse and manages to make such beautiful music?? Junkies can barely stay awake, let alone make stunning music like this.

  • Hope you and your family are all well Mark and thanks for your exquisite work, its always a pleasure to listen to your music.

  • INCREDIBILE... che Fantastico Musicista. we are waiting for you, Mr.Hollis

  • Mark,if you are ever listening - just try one more time - we're sorry for not paying more attention at the time. I am 46 and get it more now. Just beautiful.

  • I love this...I wish Mark would record again, his talent is sorely missed indeed...

  • Mark Hollis is the best!!

    beautiful song!!

  • ...still waiting Mark..please come out to play...x0x

  • yea jpharwood were waiting, bring it on mark. these 3.5 minutes listening to this song again lightens up 24hours of work, stress and u know the rest :)

  • Forget our fate The pedlar sings Set up to sell my soul I've lived a life for wealth to bring And yet I'll gaze The colour of spring Immerse in that one moment Left in love with everything Soar the bridges That I burnt before One song among us all
  • Beautiful video to a very great composer!

  • If ever there was a man that needed to re discover himself and his beautiful abilities..............it IS Mr Hollis......just rtry it Mark We are all here waiting.............

  • Thank You!!!

  • 100% d'accord avec toi hollydu13, et très beau montage!

    Merci Toorloo,

    Mille Merci M. Hollis

  • La voix de Mark est tellement apaisante.Cette chanson est une bonne therapie contre le stress.L'album de M.Hollis est une pure merveille!

  • silmalila loves indianscriptures and the

    beautiful videos he sends her.

    simply gorgeous

  • indianscriptures is a creep.

  • must you? you're killing me.

    :(

  • please stop! you are truly KILLING me.

    (she is cying)

  • crying like a baby.

    must you?

  • not crying anymore.

laughing my ass off would be more like it.

  • I agree.

But it is not his fault.

    Life set him up.

    Her, too.

and Humpty Dumpty can never be put back together again.

  • indianscriptures is vapourdrawings and ornamentaldespair

    and he is absolutely right.

    creepy creepy creepy

  • Sought out the lyrics:

They're so hard to make out that it's like a whispered blur not meant to include me, in an odd way. In this way, the song becomes sort of indifferent to me, as it chooses not to be shared, but via a lyric sheet you must sweep the internet to find. I had thought maybe it was just me, but I went to another post of this song thinking it might be the recording. Nope. Just sung as a secret.

Beautifully poignant, tho & thought provoking.

The music makes up for the slight!

  • I wish you'd had the lyrics in your description as I had a hard time understanding what he was singing & much of it was lost on me. ;-(

The mood of the piece is unmistakeably poignant!

Two pictures here made me feel at home, as at 1:57 a house in a glen appears which looks like the farm down in the valley 1 house away from my sister's old place in No. Carolina. & the last one looks just like the Smokey Mountains when on the way from my sister's place to her friend's house in Tennessee.

    Thanks

  • The greatest band, the finest songwriter this world has ever had. I would give anything to see them reform and tour.

They were so ahead of many of todays bands, but listen to many of todays bands, and I'm sure there's some Talk Talk influence in many of the songs.

Kate Bush a big fan of Talk Talk too for those of you who didn't know.

  • I could cry

  • my mate just gave me talk talks gretest hit on video for my 42nd birthday,he got it from a carboot for 50p best gift i had, dont tell the missus she throw my best husband mug at me haha

  • your not cloudbuster.... lol

but your right, talk talk were an excellent band. shame there not about today, what does mark hollis do these days ????

  • cheers mate, thanx for the comments, mark hollis is a bit of a recluse now, dont think they will get back together, shame really but we can live in hope

  • no probs, what album is this from ?

beautiful chilled song this. wonder what the other guys are doing , anyone know ?? i heard hollis lived in the countryside and kept away from in general. but if that makes him happy eh, hes a genius with lyrics though .

  • Paul Webb and Lee Harris went on to form the band .O.Rang (or 'O'Rang) while Tim Friese-Greene started recording under the name Heligoland. In 1998, Mark Hollis released the eponymous debut Mark Hollis, which this track is from. According to Holliss management, he has now retired. Webb collaborated under the name of Rustin Man with Beth Gibbons and released Out of Season in 2002, while Harris was featured on the Bark Psychosis album of 2004.

  • You either got it or you ain't..., and this guys exceptional..., a real talent...

  • beautiful song, excellent voice

  • Happy Birthday to Mr Mark Hollis on Fri 4th Jan

  • mark best vocalist

  • waw! why does such e beautiful voice and musician stop doing music?

  • It's a good question!Seriously, i agree with you.

  • Very, very good question, I also agree with you.

  • Brano stupendo e immagini meravigliose!

  • Eerie. I just had "Again a Game...Again" in my brain coming up to my office. By all means, that'd be great. And I think Daily Planet would be an EXCELLENT addition to the catalogue! Thanks so much, you help get me through the workday....

  • I really hope you're aren't kidding here. You've just given me reason not to kill myself for at least another two years (lol - really, not suicidal!). Any chance to hear Mark sing something new is, well, more than I thought I could reasonably wish for.

BTW, toorlooo, any chance you're thinking of posting something for "The Daily Planet"? My favorite from his solo work.....Or might I suggest "The Last Time" or "Does Caroline Know?" (Thanks for "It's You", by the way!)

  • Yeah:

    I am working on Again a game again;

And im sure that Daly Planet would be great with pictures.

I will work on this too if you want.

    ;-)

  • great video

  • Great song. ... hope the rumor is true. Sonic poet!

  • i like talk talk but not this song, even though its just hollis.

  • amazing song, nice vid =)

i really miss talk talk & mark hollis...

  • You don't know the great new about Talk Talk and Mark Hollis: Mark Hollis got the inspiration to return on the scene. He restarted to talk with lee. He agree. For Paul. We don't have news.

Tim Frieese Green Will be there too, Steeve Winwood, Martin Ditchman. The album will be for sale in the end of 2009. They will start to record on next april. What a great new!

  • i can't seem to find andy confirmation about this on the net. what are your sources?

  • I can't tell you the sources on the comment: we can't.

I will go on your portal to tell you.

  • Hi Toorloo, could You please tell if this still stands , have we any hope at all.

    Thanks in advance for reply!

  • Mark will never work in the music business again so doubt this will happen. - Sadly

  • I fear it`s true too but how can You be so sure?

  • I know somebody who said the same thing in 1975...... playing a gig this Saturday. Never say never

  • Well as somone in the know as it were I can assure you all that any Talk of a reformation is pure speculation and will never happen as that particular period has ended for the band.

  • Is this really true or fake!?

  • Hi

No, I was just joking around, for April 1st of last year. :P

  • @toorlooo hey what is the painting at 0:18? it's gorgeous!

  • @Muzikhead993 It's one of Marks' pictures in 1998. Sadly I don't have it anymore. You can do a printscreen of the video and edit it.

  • Beautiful song, great fan vid.

    Kuddos, u did a marvelous job !
