Hey everyone, our recently launched music blog has a post about late-era Talk Talk we’re trying to get out there and hope you might enjoy. Just search SongStacks on Twitter.
this song makes me want to just float away......how can music make you feel like this?? ....i remember getting this when it came out and spent all day listening to it....sublime even after all these years.
The comment 'exit quietly through the back door' is more than food for thought. That is pure truth on several levels. His muse led him to a place where the cold hard facts of commerce and the old model of record companies didn't align with his vision. The funny thing is that he could come back now, fully, on his own terms and with all artistic control - because of the internet. I am sure he knows this, but perhaps he's just used to whatever life he grew into when that 'back door' quietly closed.
@LApirtle I do know that we (those of us who know and love this solo record) can take heart in knowing that the record sits out there, ready to blow the mind and change the life of those lucky souls who are drawn to it. It still resonates with me after all these years, that's for sure. BTW I know The Wire did something, a review or a feature or maybe an interview when this came out in 97/98... but I lost the issue. If anyone has details on that pls post.
Can you imagine I am actually a metal fan but now that I've discovered Mark Hollis I am considering changing music style.... :) He is absolutely brilliant!!!!
What a voice! And hey this man can sing live unlike many others...
To all of the real music lovers, i.e. fans of Talk Talk - I too feel cheated by not hearing new songs from Mr Hollis - it seems miserly to me that Mark has chosen to keep his voice to himself - but I have no choice but to respect his decision. It's just sad, that's all.
Mark will be 56 soon. I can only wonder what his voice sounds like now with the maturity and experience warming it further. It's hard to miss someone I've not met, but in his case, it seems clearly so.
i have all the cds of talk talk, never get bored, always finding something new in the songs, and yes i hate chart music,my wife thinks i need to hear other stuff, why do i ,i know what i like, she listens to r n b,so what does she know, naff all hahaha
ive loved talk talk since day one,and even now the music movesme, never gets old, todays music is so disposeable no pun intended,u know what i mean, words cant say what this music does for me,mrs thinks im mad,but shes into r n b,say no more eh
I first heard this on XM's Hearts of Space program late one night. I was home alone online. Some of the best late night contemplate alone music I have ever heard. Being from the US, I never heard of Mark Hollis. I went onto Amazon and ordered two albums, one Talk Talk and the other a solo album.
Dear Mark, I'm 42 this, just this to demostrate that pure music is not in the 80's in the success, I met you in Rome (Palaeur) in a concert (Idon't remenber which! one!): none recognize you, but I did and spoke to you"But, you are talk talk!!". Last your album is pure, and out of commercial european success.
Last is always the best: I remember ...the yesterday's.. it's our life!
When I read the title of this song I was so excited! For obvious reasons - sounds nothing like that album though... I love the way each album is an evolution from the last: this is the perfect follow-up to LS. After creating the finest music in history what a magnificent way to exit the music industry, quietly through the back door... & nobody's ever heard of it (or him).
The world can have chris martin, lennon, & friggin bono with their shallow radio-friendly 1-dimensional sheep music.
@JohnoEAL I'm sure if Mark Hollis was to hear your effusive praise, he would tell you to have a listen to some classical music. I would suggest you investigate the worlds greatest living composer; I refer to the Estonian composer Arvo Part. Like much of Talk Talk/Hollis's best music, it requires some effort but the rewards more than make up for it. Perhaps you could start with "Fratres", "Cantus in memory of Benjamin Britten" & my personal favourite "De profundis".
Mark Hollis is the type of artist (singer/songwriter/musician) that inspires and excites other artists. Sadly underrated , his musical achievements should be gracefully celebrated for their purity of passion and creative expression.

Mark,if you are ever listening - just try one more time - we're sorry for not paying more attention at the time. I am 46 and get it more now. Just beautiful.
yea jpharwood were waiting, bring it on mark. these 3.5 minutes listening to this song again lightens up 24hours of work, stress and u know the rest :)
Forget our fate The pedlar sings Set up to sell my soul I've lived a life for wealth to bring And yet I'll gaze The colour of spring Immerse in that one moment Left in love with everything Soar the bridges That I burnt before One song among us all
If ever there was a man that needed to re discover himself and his beautiful abilities..............it IS Mr Hollis......just rtry it Mark We are all here waiting.............
They're so hard to make out that it's like a whispered blur not meant to include me, in an odd way. The mood of the piece is unmistakeably poignant!
Two pictures here made me feel at home, as at 1:57 a house in a glen appears which looks like the farm down in the valley 1 house away from my sister's old place in No. Carolina. & the last one looks just like the Smokey Mountains when on the way from my sister's place to her friend's house in Tennessee.
my mate just gave me talk talks gretest hit on video for my 42nd birthday,he got it from a carboot for 50p best gift i had, dont tell the missus she throw my best husband mug at me haha
beautiful chilled song this. wonder what the other guys are doing , anyone know ?? i heard hollis lived in the countryside and kept away from in general. but if that makes him happy eh, hes a genius with lyrics though .
Paul Webb and Lee Harris went on to form the band .O.Rang (or 'O'Rang) while Tim Friese-Greene started recording under the name Heligoland. In 1998, Mark Hollis released the eponymous debut Mark Hollis, which this track is from. According to Holliss management, he has now retired. Webb collaborated under the name of Rustin Man with Beth Gibbons and released Out of Season in 2002, while Harris was featured on the Bark Psychosis album of 2004.
Eerie. I just had "Again a Game...Again" in my brain coming up to my office. By all means, that'd be great. And I think Daily Planet would be an EXCELLENT addition to the catalogue! Thanks so much, you help get me through the workday....
I really hope you're aren't kidding here. You've just given me reason not to kill myself for at least another two years (lol - really, not suicidal!). Any chance to hear Mark sing something new is, well, more than I thought I could reasonably wish for.
BTW, toorlooo, any chance you're thinking of posting something for "The Daily Planet"? My favorite from his solo work.....Or might I suggest "The Last Time" or "Does Caroline Know?" (Thanks for "It's You", by the way!)
You don't know the great new about Talk Talk and Mark Hollis: Mark Hollis got the inspiration to return on the scene. He restarted to talk with lee. He agree. For Paul. We don't have news.
Tim Frieese Green Will be there too, Steeve Winwood, Martin Ditchman. The album will be for sale in the end of 2009. They will start to record on next april. What a great new!
Well as somone in the know as it were I can assure you all that any Talk of a reformation is pure speculation and will never happen as that particular period has ended for the band.
the rainbow is another beautiful song from talk talk Mark Hollis

Sought out the lyrics:
They're so hard to make out that it's like a whispered blur not meant to include me, in an odd way. In this way, the song becomes sort of indifferent to me, as it chooses not to be shared, but via a lyric sheet you must sweep the internet to find. I had thought maybe it was just me, but I went to another post of this song thinking it might be the recording. Nope. Just sung as a secret.
Beautifully poignant, tho & thought provoking.

Yeah:
I am working on Again a game again;
And im sure that Daly Planet would be great with pictures.
I will work on this too if you want.

Mark will never work in the music business again so doubt this will happen. - Sadly

I fear it`s true too but how can You be so sure?

I know somebody who said the same thing in 1975...... playing a gig this Saturday. Never say never

Well as somone in the know as it were I can assure you all that any Talk of a reformation is pure speculation and will never happen as that particular period has ended for the band.

Muzikhead993 1 year ago
@Muzikhead993 It's one of Marks' pictures in 1998. Sadly I don't have it anymore. You can do a printscreen of the video and edit it.
