@warezvz OMG... thats... thats enough to bring shame to my family :( damn... I thought I had been bringing shame since the day I was born... but now... Apple Products... Ive been bringing shame for nearly 5 years less than I though...
Now I feel better about it :D yay go apple products *licks macbook* mmm shiny
@bloodhay Bingo thats just it... If people don't have a use for an iPad it will suck hard... and badly to :P
Then again thats really the same with most products on the market... unless you have a need for something it will kinda be useless. Will have to look up the HP slate now. Im wondering how the M$ surface thing is going these days to... makes a nice coffee table from what I've seen :D
@Skazzious I'm going to wait for iPad with OS 4. I know its sales have exceeded all expectations. But I'm just one guy to do any sort of development. And lately I've been kind of stalled. i won't go into details.
Point is, I want the iPhone and iPad to run the same OS if at all possible so that I can make things simpler for me. I think I already have a scheme for device independent resolution and aspect ratios. I just don't want to have to program different guts as would be the case today.
I like the idea of an ipad. I like gadgets. I know some people dint see the worth of them, but just simply being bigger than my iPhone is good enough for me. I'm always on my iPhone but it is a bit small. I only have a desktop computer and no laptop so the ipad seems like a great gadget for me. Is this the wifi only version? 64gb?
@hegocvespa Well I've been asked to do a review of sorts on the device once I finish the iPhone challenge in the morning but I will say this... The iPad will always seem useless to those that have no need for it. If iPhone as much as I do... You will love the iPad.
64GB 3G version.
Try it before you buy. Never buy anything unless you are totally sure that it's what you want and that it does what you want.
@Fudmottin Haha well I turn 25 next month so this is an early birthday of sorts.
Well over here the 15 i5 costs £500 more than what I picked up. To be fair I only wanted the 13 inch because i just wanted a small laptop. The 15 is just to big plus if I want the extra power I can use the iMac in the office. The mbp is just for when i want to take some time out and get out of the office =)
Looking forward ro playing with it and the iPad tomorrow when the challenge is over
£500 is quite a jump! Didn't realize it was that much. Not to worry. Xcode will run quite fine on the 13" model. The initial compile will seem a bit slow. But incremental compilation speeds things up as you're going. That's if you care to have a go with development.
@Fudmottin Haha I wish it were my age in hex... Inky has been taking the piss out of me for the last few months as I'm now half way to 50. At least in hex I can still say I'm a careless teenager.
In the uk we get killed by tax. I could fly to America, pick upna Mac mini and fly back on the money it costs to walk down to the local apple store and pick one up =)
Oh I must give dev a shot. I did manage to get Xcode running on a hackintosh net book a while back. Used to run Xcode on a g4 moons ago
@carlsant1 We're not quite as well of as people may think in fact no more than a month ago maybe 2 inky and I were broke but recent projects have started to mature and payday came so why not eh. Upgrade my gear and increase productivity.
Cool not a prob I will try and throw together a review after the iPhone challenge... That ends today by the way =) 7 days and only an iPhone.
@CJSNOWY Dude seriously ya have to get one and the camera adaptor. If you have an iPhone 3GS it's like the must have accessory... Especially when ya little one is born... I've already taken all of the photos and video off the iPhone and put them on the iPad so I could free up space on the iPhone. If your jail broken just get a wifi version and tether with mifi to save a 100 quid.
All that gear is inkys way of keeping me out of the office... And its working
@Skazzious I'm a bit disappointed that you still need to hook iPad up to iTunes on occasion. It should be able to be a 100% stand alone device so that it can be a true alternative to net books.
@Fudmottin That is a bit of a pain. Being on the iphone challenge I've not been able to do any of the actual setup but so far its only needed to be hooked up once. It would be nice to be able to update the firmware and things with just the device but I guess much like a net book it's really just a case of being a device that compliments your desktop. Always handy to have a backup off the device to so it's kind of good they force you onto a machine every now and then.
@Skazzious Well at least "real" computers aren't being replaced just yet. Programming is only learned on real computers. And programmers are needed to keep all these gadgets interesting.
@Fudmottin I don't think that devices like these will ever be able to replace an actual desktop computer or at least not in my life time. I feel that once things like this are the fitter desktop then we will be verging on implanting chips directly into the brain and connecting our brains directly into the net. I prefer having the 2. It takes having a desktop to make devices like this appealing =)
Could you imagine trying to program on an iphone or an iPad... How messy it would be...
@Skazzious Z80 processor, 64K RAM, 80KB disk, S-100 bus. First computer. CP/M OS, 32K Structured Basic or K&R C.
My first mac: M80000? processor (8Mhz), 512K RAM, 400KB disk X 2. Mac OS 1.0, Aztec C (K&R). Had to swap out disks for compiling, assembling, and linking.
The iPhone display is quite small. But with a dock connector, keyboard, and monitor, it is powerful enough. iPad would work even better. I don't know if it can run Xcode, but it can run the tools that Xcode fronts for.
@Fudmottin Oh yes of course they are powerful enough to do some pretty heavy tasks on... I mean when we looked back at our decade old systems the current mobile devices are just as powerful if not more powerful.
I remember my 1st computer. a C64. Brilliant bit of kit. Still have it and still works.
1st mac was a Mac SE/30 or SE40... and a Mac Classic. All still work :)
I was looking into setting up a telnet server on one of the old macs and leave it running just as a fun joke/toy
@CJSNOWY Media centre for sd content but not a wifi screen, not a remote client and an iPhone can't be a storage device for an iPhone. That and we already own 2 iPhones.
@CJSNOWY Not quite the type of storage device I had in mind though =p plus as a standard device you just have to plug into a windows box. Nah it's the camera adaptor I wanted it for and as a digitalnphoto frame. Plug in the iPhone to the iPad and it puts all of my photo and video onto the iPad and Into the library ready to edit from the iPad no pc required. Delete everything photo and video wise from iphone and then start taking more photo and video =) just for that feature alone it's worth it.
bad boy, you did go to the apple store. Bad bad boy

Someone had a very early Christmas indeed!
So why not the 15" MBP with i7? Sure it costs a bit more. But it will crunch all your numbers much faster!
