I got a 93 in a 60 in WV back in 07, ticket was sighted as "reckless" and written as an arrest, the nice HPO told me my history would determine if he took me in or not .... He let me go..... $800!!!!!!! Was slowing from 127 in a grand am gt, saw some bushes decided to slow cuz i couldn't use my detector at the time ( illegal in both va's) lucky I did.... I was 3 miles from the state line!!!!
I drove across the country last year in my Z06 and did an average of 84mph across the entire trip! There must not have been all these construction zones when Alex did it back in '06. Almost every state on the interstate highways there is a construction zone for over 50 miles long and you have morons hogging the left lane and trucks driving 40mph in the right.
no it's in the final stages, according to the website back in july 2009, i've been waiting for this movie since late 2005, its got a bit more to got it seems i believe its supposed to be out next year. i think but im not quite sure
@ilikeemericas they caught me doing 85 in a 45 zone one time. Honestly had no idea how fast I was going. Cop let me off though. Actually surprised I haven't been caught more times.
@ilikeemericas I was running late for work one day and was flying down the interstate when all of a sudden I saw three FHP patrol cars hiding in one location. I freaked out and started to brake and blend in. Surprised when none followed. I most have been popping 110-115 mph. Lucky I guess.
First of all these guys set 32:07 four years after the last cannonball in '79 so they were hardly the fore-fathers. Second the record is 31:04 set by Alex Roy and co-driver David Maher in October 2006.
it wasn't this story, but roy's father's part that inspired him to become what he has, i suggest u read "the driver" great narrative about his exeperience
Single lane road construction with 55 mph traffic - toll ways with many officers, city transits in daylight = traffic, filling 2 tanks with 80+ gallons. Truckers who HATE you. Anyone who thinks maintaining 90 mph during the era of 55 mph was easy - try it.
i went to california speedway this weekend, and met a original cannonballer. i actually knew him for years and never knew till now. he ran in the 1979 cannonball and placed 7th in a ferrari. forgot the model. his time was 35:59 or some where around that, in the 35 hour range. just thought i'de share with the fans.

I kno this was done way back when but this time is not hard to accomplish i recently took off from Rochester, NY to Oceanside, Ca and it took me 32:15 in a escape without any extra fuel tanks
Forgive me if I don't believe you, but to say that this is "not hard to accomplish" with the abundance of urban sprawl, quick communication between police precincts, and the state of disarray that the average American highway finds itself in these days, is not only daft, but arrogant. If you want to go beat 31:04 (The current record) without any additional fuel tanks/equipment, be my guest.
The actual run is closer to 2700 miles and requires you to AVERAGE nearly 90 miles an hour. That means you have to compensate for every single fill up (Approx. 5 minutes at a time) where you are going 0 mph. Look, I love to drive fast, but to claim that averaging 79 mph isn't hard just proves that you don't fully understand this concept.
PS: At your rate of speed, it would take you nearly 40 hours to do a coast-to-coast run. Get the picture?
Sorry 2874 miles. I work as a Navigator and crunch numbers and figure ETA/SOG based on D=rt formula. A Simple concept as we run 24/7 on the oceans. And in fact, on high speed containerships that can average almost 600 miles per day, hp/ton..ships have the advantage of efficiency. That being said, being on land, you have to figure in gas/food/and the occasional traffic conjestion. I've been with the BMWCCA for 5 years and embark on TRD rallies. I think the concept of travel is understood.
As plotted by Alex Roy, the trip is 2,795 miles (If I remember correctly). Just think there are still those out there who see 25 hours as feasible...if they do it, I will be at the finish with a bottle of champagne. Something tells me I won't have to buy the champagne any time soon.
I cannot wait for this movie. Holy cow. This is just great. I love stuff like this. It's actually stranger than fiction in many ways. I love fast car stories.
but at 135 in my MR2, it still isn't solid. the stripes go by pretty quickly, but you can tell it isn't a solid line. and I WANT this movie so badly!!!

31 hours in 2400 miles of driving is only averaging 79 mph. Shit! I've driven 20 hours straight and 1400 miles later made it..
Most cringe at going above 100mph in America, and then there are those who cringe at going any less...
