There was a time when Steely Dan never toured or performed live b'cuz originally all of their music was recorded by studio musicians with the 2 guys who wrote the music and lyrics doing the vocals and they had no regular band members. Thank goodness they finally got a band together!☺
As far as today's music industry is concerned, a song like this would be somewhat prophetic. The music today isn't as memberable as it was back then. The music Industry imploded circa 1989, and it never has recovered. Hey 19, That was Aretha Franklin; And most don't remember her much these days. Tragic!
@CaveGuy2008 Donald occasionally changes it in shows to "That's Otis Redding ... King of Soul" Sometimes he has the fans sing it and he corrects it to the other.
My favorite Steely Dan song. When my husband and I were just kids, I remember driving and blasting this song. Never gets old! Fantastic beat, great lyrics. Such a great trip down memory lane...
Very good. I miss hearing you guys on the radio...getting old sucks...better than dying...but dang! At 57 I now understand what my Grandparents and parents meant about the "younger generation"...they just dont have a clue!
@mrarthurallen1 those in the younger generation that care about the study of music love SD, they're probably my favorite band in the world, we learn about real music from our parents not from the god-awful contemporary music industry. Becker and Fagen are the musician's musicians, a band's favorite band. studying their music is nearly as rapturous as hearing it.
@mrarthurallen1 I am 20 years old and my friends and I love Steely Dan, I hope that this summer I will have a chance to see them in concert somewhere still sounding great
Saw Steely Dan for the first time....first time I could tickets, in July 2011, lousy venue...Winstar but LOVED hearing them...couldn't see them for shit for $90...I can die happy now.
Estimated friend, if you want to listen again this song and an endless number of successes of the love I suggest you to visit Radio MUSICA PARA MIMOS - looks for his direction URL in Google ( search Musica para Mimos in Google)-. best romantic music of all the times in Internet, is great, is very good ...!!!
Right on time! This is what music is all about. Horns, keys, amazing guitar solos, good coke... plus the backup vocalist on the left is sexy as hell. I'm not too keen on the whole trumpet/ trombone argument.. but what the hell. Rock on!
Listen, your land of USA sure is bless from God for having so great musicians like them here,I can't say here how many I like because I would need many pages!!!
@doowaditti don't worry,be happy.. I know what you mean, globalisation you can't stop, the world will get togheter if we like or not. About puppet politicians I agree, they are just humans that play with mistakes without to know what they are doing. In the other hand,we have music, based on melody and harmony, which I believe is the most big contribution for a world of Peace! Think for a moment a "Life full of melody and Harmony",Take care and God bless you too
Steely Dan musicians are people at the top of their game.... the session elite....if yer gonna fly with The Dan, master your fretboard or stay the fuck home... respect to The Dan
Clearly "tequilla" was the key word to end the break..lol Love it..big fan..saw him in Danbury Connecticut of all places this summer..20 min away from me..couldn't ask for more. - Watched this post on here so many times, great live version
I also caught these guys in Tuscaloosa last Saturday night. Smoking hot! Deacon Blues had a neat twist: when they got to the lyric, "Call Alabama the Crimson Tide", the audience went NUTS. I'm guessing if SD played anywhere near Auburn or Opelika, they very wisely dropped this gem from their set list!
I saw them in Louisville last wednesday and it was the best show and most talented musicians I've ever seen. I never thought that I saw Steely Dan and Fagan is a incredible band leader. More that expected and I expected a lot.
They played in Dublin once, back in '97 I think. All the Irish Dan fans were there including me. Would be fantastic to see them return. One of the greatest bands of all time
@ Gauraonline...It's DONALD Fagen. Just sayin. I only know this because I'm in love with the man and his music, lol. It's the thought that counts. LONG LIVE STEELY DAN!!!
I saw these guys in Brisbane, Australia back in 2007, and i tell you i haven't enjoyed anyone more live than these guys. They are truly the best, and the most underrated band of all time. I can't imagine anyone not liking them. So a huge hello to all my fellow Steely Dan fans.
What was Michael Fagen's musical back ground ? Did he study at Julliard or something ? I realize he assimilated many different styles as well. Very talented man
@randycchavez I couldn't agree with you more, and i'm so glad to know there are other people out there who have a love for these guys, and who can appreciate their unique style of music. They are my favourite band of all time.
Unreal...how can a band get this good...can't believe anyone who doesn't like them or says they were sellouts and played wimpy music. People's opinion's of music can be really sickening at times.
First time I was able to get tickets to see them...at Winstar Casino...lousy venue, 9 rows from stage and still couldn't see. Best, tightest concert I've ever seen however.
If what I saw on the 16th means anything, the rants about the name of the Tequila gets longer every tour. Walter went on for a good five minutes talking about being drunk in a crappy bar backroom and trying to get transcendentally drunk with what little cash you haven't wasted, and returning to a long and sleazy relationship.
@Jordi1962able . Yes, and if I'm not mistaken, it's Carolyn Leonhart (her husband, unfortunately, is Michael Leonhart the trumpet player) , and she ain't just easy on the eye, she's smokin' hot (as always) !!
Just got home from the concert here in Portland. OMG....pure power and tight tight tight. An amazing performance, great, sold out crowd and the best live performance i've seen in over a decade. Clearly the hardest working and best drummer i've ever seen. Oh man, what a great night. Happy 4th!!!!!
Was housesitting years ago and came home one night just as the super surroundsound was playing this: a revelation. Make sure you hear it on a GOOD stereo some night. It'll wake up your ears in the best way.
Thanks for posting this...I can't believe how much is available on YouTube...I have been up WAY past my bedtime, watching Dan videos...thanks for this one...best band on the planet!
