this is a good tut. but its doesnt create a real 3d text that you can rotate around. when you bring in the precomp it becomes a flat image. only in custom view can you see the extruding. its good to get that 3d frontally view only.

@B4Beltran Wrong, continue rasterizing button. Or make a camera in the extrusion comp. AE isn't a 3D program, it's the best we can do.

@XVSProductions I had the same problem, and I was going to give up on the 3D text until I saw this comment. Thanks again XVS, continue rasterizing works perfectly :D For all those who haven't heard about it, it's a relatively new feature, just in the timeline of your main composition find the 3D text composition, and check the box in the column that looks like a little sun. Or just look up "continuously rasterize in after effects".

@hallstreem Do the same thing as the first 3d TExt. Don't precompose the 1st 3rd t text just keep it jumbled. It's a huge con but I'm working on a fix alternative in an upcoming tutorial.

Why they can just make a way to crete 3D text normaly! You want 3D text?... Yes...And the programe makes a 3D text, just like in photoshop cs5 or some programe like that!

@ChuckBorrisSkate They can, they just don't want to. I'm assuming the 3D Modeling authors pay Adobe not to integrate this feature in. Also, if they put 3D Text in After Effects, people will expect more 3D modeling features in After Effects even though it's NOT a 3D program, it's a compositing program. I believe that is why but idk :/

@Ambipath Very true, but overall, I think it's a lot faster than using C4D or 3DSMAX to create real 3D text. The shatter method looks sloppy. I guess it doesn't matter much if you have a high quality computer. But thanks for the suggestion and support (:

You don't really need the preset to do that... All the preset is doing for you is gradually darkening it depending on the Z position (which it offsets depending on the "index", or where the layer is in the comp). The expression is extremely simple and is used in about a billion tutorials online.

Still, beginners would be glad you pointed it out. In my opinion, the Shatter method is easier, although it isn't accurate with the AE3D stuff.

@TheFXGuy I know, but most beginners wouldn't want to manually do that in Z space with a billion 3D Text layers, they would rather press CTRL+D. (I'm glad someone who's also advance with AE watches my tuts)

Shatter is easier, but I think this method looks nicer (for basic animations that is)

There is no "3D" image codec or video codec. You're going to have to pre-render the 3D animation and animate it, render it out as a MOV or WMV then import THAT into premiere. There's also the option to render EVERY frame as png to achieve 3D but that would be a lot of files
