please look at 23 Facts about american / Welsh history, connections and heritage -youtube video which demostrates that without wales and the welsh, america or the usa would historically a much worse off place -in fact alot of english is influenced and interspersed with welsh sayings and language
im sure the indiginous tribes of america -indians probably drink so much fire water because hairy fat white man speak like Big dung pile from buffalo herd. -hehe.
If there was an american version of the so called unpronouceable welsh place name -then it would be this - the guantanamo bay Mcdonalds by the rootin tootin gunslingin gaybar just near the have a nice day all u can eat and shoot drive thru next to the illiterate alien joke shop - or the white house for those colonials that have forgoten to buy a razor.
it's a bit rich comin from a country that insists it's first black american president has to show his birth certificate -what utter nonsense.
LMFAOOOOOOOOOOO dude im from DWYGYFYLCHI!! its only a small village in north wales close to england then any where else not far from the place you mentioned at the end, its that much off a tounge twister the welsh shorten it down to llanfairpg! its english name is women who walks across the water or somethin like that, the best way to prenounce dwygyfylchi is doogifulchi lmao this video made me laugh so much x
When one pronounces "Llan"-- you have to make that disgusting, saliva-induced blowing sound in your cheeks (ask a Welsh person to do it for you, they'll know what I'm talking about). Also, the "ch" sounds are pronounced like one is hacking-up phlegm- Haha.. No really- its a gutteral sound; And the only other cultures that pronounce the "Chhhhh" sound this way are the Germans and various Arabic countries.. Hope that helps
Well, that pronunciation of Llanfair P. G. is certainly wrong according to how I've heard my Welsh relatives pronounce it. I think I can say it fairly well, although not perfectly. . . A native Welsh speaker could of course.
lololol like tornadocreater, I am about 5 mins from Dwygyfylchi lololololol. The guy who says the llanfair pwll bit is wrong big time lololol. Where the hell does he come from lolol not even sure he is speaking welsh lololol. Too funny
The pronounciation is quite good but not accurate, The "ch" sound is completley wrong and he does sound Spanish as somebody else has already pointed out. There are 2 sound files on Wikipedia, just type in the name of the village, which in Wales is called LlanfairPG for short. Very funny though. My English friends cant get their tounges around short simple places like Llanelli or Cefn Sidan which is pronounced Kevin Sheedan.
I live only a few miles from Llanfairpwll... and I've never heard it pronounced like that guy in the video, I'm sure I heard him say Puf in the middle which is very wrong, but I agree Welsh place names are great (especially when English people try and say them).
Also there are different Welsh dialects. Especially between the North and Southern regions (so I've been told). I think the Welsh should make it easier for the Welsh and their descendants to learn the language! Sheesh!
I'm a Welsh-Canadian... And I'd love to learn Welsh for when I go back to the relatives. Christ, if the accent won't fuck you up, the pronounciation to the words will! LOL! It is a beautiful Celtic language though.
If you were a native speaker/lived in Wales for a period of time then you would feel much more comfortable in saying them. The Welsh language is a phonetic language, and once you know the basics, than you can say anything, this phonetisism does not exist in the english language, hence it is therefore harder to say place names in English!

the welsh language -or cymru as known to the camry - were speaking their mother tongue
long before hairy americans were a wink in the travellers eye -reality is i can rarely understand americans and they are supposed to speak English -
welsh'cymru -is one of the oldest languages in europe and still survives today.
unlike any intelligent us foreign policy -unless it's in the hand of a burger eating, overweight gun swingin marine -
9 signitories of the us constitution were of welsh desent!

Racist.
It's not funny, it's racist. At least the welsh language is unique, not a language made up from other languages.

I found that soundbite of the guy saying that placename somewhere on the internet. The Welsh consensus is that he's pronouncing it incorrectly.
Anyone know where I can find a recording of someone saying the name correctly?
