  • the horse that fell..is it ok? i hope it is! poor baby.

and man Empire Maker is incredable!!

  • Comment removed

  • damn that was hard to watch. jockey bounce off the ground that gotta hurt.

  • Pardon my stupidity; I don't follow the Florida circuit. I suppose Midway Cat did die?

  • Yes, sadly, Midway Cat did not survive his injuries.

  • @ridingxruffian I keep seeing the phrase "broke down",just what does this mean when applied to Racehorses?

  • @TZEITEL10 It means that they hurt themselves in some way. Like, for example, when a horse breaks his leg and has to be pulled up or collapses... Or even maybe a bowed tendon. Sorry, that was a bad job of explaining. Basically, the horse hurts himself. Or herself lol.

  • Too bad he didn't run like that in the derby. I guess it was the New York bred's turn to win.

  • He had an injured hoof in the Derby

  • Empire Maker was one of the most incredibly talented racehorses in recent years. It's a crying shame that he wasn't more durable.

  • Hell yes! Empire Maker is amazing! He just took off like a rocket!

  • Yea he did that was amazing!

  • He sure did! I wasn't interested in horse racing in 03; my Dad watched the Belmont though. It was 04 I really got interested!

  • he did and he was e great horse and deserved to win the belmont

  • Poor Midway Cat. That was a nasty spill, bless him.

  • Very ugly

  • There was an article about Jorge Chavez in the Daily Racing Form. I also read it in an interview on the internet.

  • sorry to correct you cf1970, but in an interview hockey Jorge Chavez said he broke his back in the spill.

  • No apology necessary. I was going by what I read on the aboutDOTcom site (youtube doesn't allow actual web addresses in comments here). Where did you see/hear that interview?

    Thanks for the information.

  • Ugh. Breakdowns are so uncomfortable and squemish to witness, but I think they should be shown. This IS a part of racing after all, and always makes me appreciate these animals more and more.

  • I was hesitant to keep the breakdown in there, but I felt that it would have been unfair to Midway Cat's memory to just delete him. He was handled humanely after his fall and I'm very thankful for that. His jockey Jorge Chavez was, amazingly, relatively unhurt. Thanks for your comments. Take care.

  • i'm also glad you left the breakdown in. it always makes me really angry when they've been edited out. it's like they're trying to pretend that it didn't happen, and that's not fair to the horse that broke down.

  • Thanks for that. It's hard to watch, but you're right, it seems wrong to take it out.
