  • this is so much better than that rat shit casio sk-1

  • @1787dude agreed. in defense for the sk-1, you have to start somewhere!

  • @alexriesenbeck well I like the sk-1 but they are overpriced right now because they are so popular with circuit benders, I want to bend one but I'm not paying 50 bucks to do it lol. I can get vss 30's cheap

  • @1787dude nice, send me a cheap one

  • @alexriesenbeck wait I thought that was pss 30, aww fuck

  • i've had this ever since i was a little kid, but i never knew it could do all that!! We (my sisters & I) mostly just used it for stupid stuff, like sampling fart or burp sounds or 'scary' sounds. all these years i've been wanting a 'real' instrument, but i never realized that this thing was so great (until recently).

  • @nineinchnlsnin I hope you can find a new place in your musical heart for this old toy. It's still one of my favorites!

  • great demo!!

  • @thejimjams thanks!

  • can you tell me what you have used to link your VSS 30 to your computer? thanks!

  • @HarryCaseyKid I used a standard 1/8-inch male-to-male audio patch cable. It can be stereo or mono.

  • @alexriesenbeck Thanks :D

  • i own one ;)

  • @jesussalgado007 good deal, treat her well

  • yamaha doesnt have the casio soul

  • @armandsdamanhoo i agree, but casio doesnt have the yamaha talent

  • Does anyone know of a modern sampler or VST sampler that has a Reverse button similar in function to the VSS 30? (or button that is easily assignable via midi cc messages) See starting at 0:58 in the video. I have been searching for years for something that can do this but would also like the option of a higher bit rate, sample memory and other modern features.

I know the MicroSample has a reverse button but I am not sure if it behaves the same way as the VSS. Any info is much appreciated.

  • @zblofu Not that I know of, the VSS-30 is unique in that way.

  • @alexriesenbeck Yes it is a very unique cool sampler. I miss mine!

  • @armandsdamanhoo Casio are toys, Yammy`s are for Pro`s!

  • Can you imagine if Yamaha build something like that nowadays? Maybe with Midi (or USB Midi), the virtual filter section of the AN1x and an SD card storage function? That would be great! But what do we get? The MicroKorg...the MicroSampler...the MicroStation...all from Korg. Yamaha is sleeping! Please bring back the PortaSound series of keyboards! We don't want to step through several menus...we don't want anymore boring General Midi stuff...we want some small "WYSIWYG"-keyboards!

  • @sauermusicDE I really think someone could make a fortune if they used todays technology to create hybrid wysiwyg keyboards like these. If I had to stay just Yamaha, I would really want a VSS 30 + VSS 100 + VSS 200. If we could cross-breed the 4 sample banks of the SK 5 or SK 8, mix it with the VSS 30 effects, and have selectable live samples (with a manual switch, not software); I would be in heaven. Always thought of opening a SK and adding another memory chip/switch/battery.... THANKS dude!

  • Okay, I am impressed. If I run across one of these, I'll be back for tutorials!

    Thanks for uploading this!

  • no problem :)

i recommend anyone interested also pick up a Casio SK-5

  • I saw yer demo on that one as well, but hadta offline for work...I subscribed, so anything else ya put up, I'll know it :)

    Thanks again!

  • Just bought one off of ebay. I'm so excited to get it!

  • oh man, youre gonna have a blast!

  • i use to have 1 but it just quit working i miss that thing bcus i used it for sound effects for stories

  • if you ever want to get rid of it, let me know! :)

  • i don't have it anymore the board broke i threw it away

  • Someone just gave me one. AWESOME. Cool vid. Now I know I can do a lot more with it.

  • This thing is my favorite. Out of all the samplers I own currently, this one tops the chart. Even it's bigger brother (VSS-200) doesn't compete with this little baby. Show me your stuff!

  • Aw sorry I don't know anything about making music! But I want to use this thing to score some films. It's perfect!

  • that sounds sweet!

  • @alexriesenbeck yes, indeed, I also had the VSS-200 and the VSS-30 sounds much better and looks nicer. It sounds even better than a Casio SK-1 in my opinion. It also doesn't power off after 7 minutes.
