omg.i wanna watch this..it's unfortunate that there are SOME(not ALL) asians who are so brainwashed by popular media that they come to hate their natural god-given beauty but hey..it's really no different from white brunette's constantly dyeing their hair blonde or tanning themselves and getting either nose surgeries, lip augmentation or their boobs made bigger. it all comes down to insecurity and low self esteem brought upon by number of factors..be it the media or ppl constantly putting u down
Um I don't get why it's always "becoming more Caucasian"...East Indians, Afghanis, Central Asians, Arabs, etc. are not Caucasian yet they have pretty large eyes too and they're anything but Caucasian IMO.
asians used to think little feet were pretty, now no...u think that has anything to do with white ppl n their big feet? Come on...not everthing is about white ppl =_=
I can't hate, at lease she got the money to get this surgery. If it'll make her feel better about herself why not. Hell if I've got the money I would fix my right eye and lift that baby up to look like my left eye. Right now I look like I have down syndrome or something to that nature. Rather than beating her down for this I applause her. Too many idiots on the net saying shit like "Looks don't matter" can kiss my ass, because it does. Looks for the most part will give you the job/man you want.
but take into account the HISTORY of the asian countries. look at their past art, BEFORE they were ever introduced to westerners. (yes i'm talking about a few hundred years ago). notice something? oh yeah, the eyes are small and slanted, and it was thought to be beautiful. coincidence that the idea of big eyes being beautiful coincided only with the introduction of western ideologies? i think not. asian ideals about beauty are influenced by the west, consciously or unconsciously.
Funny how the caucasian people in videos like these say that asians want to "westernise" their eyelids. Shows how little they know about the whole thing.
Just because an Asian wants to have double eyelids doesn't mean they want to look white - some Asians are born naturally with double eyelids, some are not. It's just like in the West, people have their own image of beauty. It just so happens for Asians that double eyelids may be considered more beautiful, not because they want to look WHITE.
I've always wanted blepharoplasty. It never ever hit to that I was trying to be white. I was merely trying to look like my friends with such large eyes!!
its not the fact of wanting to be cockasian and deserting asian heritage, u all are retarded, its the fact that its prettier. I mean my eyes are normal but makeup is hard to reveal colors because dont have double lids, it probably lets me see better too O.o i dont look at it as a way to "run" away from culture, it'll just help me see and look better!
@winterxbliss omg..u gotta be kidding me. i can't believe u actually believe that getting eye surgery(double lids) makes you see better...lmao. that's not true. East Asians are capable of seeing as clearly as Sub-Saharan Africans or Europeans. Geez. have some self esteem. love your beautiful east asian eyes. they make you different and unique.
wait wait. HOW IS IT JUST CAUCASIAN EYES WHEN A LOT OF ASIANS HAVE DOUBLE EYELIDS ANYWAY. stupid documentary taken from a one point perspective. narrow, just defaming asian culture once again. "oh look at all these asians trying to be white" . WRONG-O
wow a few people speaks for the whole entire population? We both know that is NOT true. She/They might say they do it for that reason, some may do it just because they want to look pretty in their eyes. What about weave/wigs, eye color contact, fake finger nails, boob jobs, nose jobs, etc, etc; Do the people who get these operation/alteration want to look out of their race? No we do it to make ourselves feel better. I think a lot of people read way to much into it.
you obviously don't know the history of asian culture. and you obviously haven't seen the documentary yet. if you watch this documentary, it's unbiased.
why do you think asians think it's prettier to have bigger eyes, double eyelids, and larger breasts? for years and years, asians have been looked down upon especially when asian countries were dominated by the west. and in result, the asians would strive to be like white people, or more "upper class."
Though true... I think what asians are more obsessed with is weight and skin color. The thing with eyes and and breasts are like third and fourth thing that asian people think about. Not to say you're wrong, but from what I've seen and read asians are more into trying to have white skin and staying super skinny. I've found a dress in a specialty shop (where they import stuff from Asia)that is a size small which looked like a size extra-small in the other stores. Oo!
its not that oh she wants to look like a white woman, its more like, oh she wants BIGGER EYES. thats all there is to it. its not about changing one's race! YAY DANPT200
Its not the procedure of cosmetic surgery that I'm opposed to, its the Damn "oh shes trying to look like a white women" comments. Why not "shes trying to have African eyes?" Technically an Asian eyelid is structurally more different from eyelids of Apes than lets say a Caucasian or African eyelid. Are we trying to revert to ape-like eye lids?
first of all, no human is "ape-like." you don't need to compare humans to apes. that's just dumb.
to answer your question "why not 'she's trying to have african eyes,'" there is HISTORY behind all of this. just think! who was enslaved in europe and america? africans! why would people want to look like the slaves? just look at all of the caricatures of the typical black man during slavery. big lips, flat and wide nose. they were looked down upon and made fun of in society. do your research.
Changing one's physical appearance thru drastic measures is not a unique phenomenon to modern society. Some tribal cultures practiced head binding to create an elongated skull, lip plugs in some African and S. American tribes, neck rings to elongate the necks. Everyone wants to be pretty, regardless of race/ethnicity.
Whatever ppl think about cosmetic surgery, its not about changing one's race. Look at the surgery that most Caucasian Celebs go through, there is nose reshapening, chin reshapening, injections into cheeks or lips. Why do ppl keep saying its a Westernization of beauty standards!! Its enhancing the one's individual appearance.
enhancing one's individual appearance? that makes NO SENSE. aren't people enhancing their appearances to look like everyone else, to look like the models in those magazines, to look "prettier" in everyone else's standards? heck, you don't even see your own face most of the day. so it's definitely not to impress yourself, but to impress others.
I would agree with your statement when it comes to this video, but there are people who do want to enhance themselves without going by society's' standards. After all, people who are symmetrical are more likely to get the job or a promotion than those who aren't. It has nothing to do what's in a magazines as much as it does biological impulses of the greedy, vain, BS beast known as the superficial humans. Personally I think people should do whatever they want, it's their money/problem not mine.
So weird....i've always wanted to be Asian.

there are many asians who have this type of eyelid naturally, without the surgery, so it's really not a "trying to look white thing" all the time.
