Im running an old 80gb maxtor temporary for now until I make some money to get a 500gb seagate or a WD. Yeah they do have a bad rep I had a 30gb died years ago.....got a 250gb IDE starting to get bad sectors, its not being used right now.

It doesn't matter how many great features Maxtor adds to their HDs, they suck and WILL fail sooner or later because they are cheap pieces of shit. My second one just crashed, 500 gigabytes down the drain. NEVER, EVER BUY A MAXTOR, THEY ARE THE WORST HARD DRIVES EVER!!! Seagate recently bought Maxtor, lets hope they can make Maxtor drives more reliable. Until then, don't buy Maxtor...period

Maxtor only aims to further the problem with their poorly manufactured drives. Their backup concept is the only thing going for them and it is essentially null and void since they will need a backup for their backup for their backup to protect against data loss and even that is not guaranteed with the quality of these drives.

Fix your danm reliablity issues Maxtor and who knows, I might just buy you one day down the track.

Don't buy Maxtor.

Yes, experienced a hard-down failure and Logan is right. Your life goes haywire especially if you work on your computer or use it for schoolwork. Go buy an external hard-drive and you can be worry free. FireWire is one of the best ways of data-transfer you could imagine, but those who dont have it are still not excluded in this product. Thumbs up for Maxtor.
