Haha, definitely a Chinese thing, parents last year were like derp, didn't care about me :( then i gave them a little hint then they remembered. Parents these days! And one year i woke up and they all called me a "fei tai" and said "aiii yaaa!" parents are kinda mad tbh... Specially chinese nans!
Ahh i feel ya! My parents are the same with me and my siblings except that i have a brother who's birthday is later in the same month as mine...therefore my forgotten birthday is always a reminder for his! [My bday: "What, its your birthday??" Last minute rushed cake, stressful celebration before they scoot to work! Bro's bday: cake all bought and ready, everyone relaxed and happy.. Parents drive mellowly to work :P]
lol my dad always forgets. he doesnt really celebrate birthdays and thinks its a waste of time and money. its only thanks to my mum that i get presents and stuff o-o.
Kung Fu dunk is supposed to be a an adaptation of popular japanese manga Slam Dunk written by Takehiko Inoue. Such a let down! Don't understand how the author even approved it. He was even involved in the movie!
Yup, definitely an Asian thing if not strictly a Chinese thing! Traditional Asians aren't very touchy-feely/mushy/sentimental people so anything to do with hugs and birthdays and stuff like that are hmm well....it's not frowned upon, it just doesn't happen, I can't explain it. Do you ever hug your parents?? I haven't hugged my parents since I was like 8!
Yeah my parents rarely acknowledge my birthday either. What's more funny is my Dad {from HK} always states my age in a matter of fact way but it's always wrong. He'll say something like "you are twenty two noooow, you must to laughter (look after) yourself!"
Ahhh...i bought Kung Fu Dunk last week also, how weird is that?! I was in a frustrated mood because where i live there is like no Jay Chou merchandise (not even one CD of his!) and i might be just a little bit in love with him! haha! so i was like, yea, im going to buy this now, ive seen it before (there is a version on here somewhere) so i knew what it was about but i actually really like it! Maybe im so in love with Zhou Jie Lun, ive lost all matter of reality.....! Love your videos! =)
@klsuperman If you had taken the time to read the annotation carefully, you would've seen that it says, "Starring Jay Chou and LOTS of Hong Kong actors you might know". I never said that Jay Chou was a Hong Kong actor; I know that he's Taiwanese.
Belated Happy Birthday!!! :] Hahaha Kung Fu Dunk. That movie is ridiculous. Only reason I watched it was because Jay Chou is in it. Its an ok movie when you don't have anything to watch and you don't mind what you're gonna watch. haha XD
yeah i saw Kung Fu Dunk movie by because i had it on Netflix, my parents are like "You are learning chinese! watch chinese movies!" and they sat and watched this with me. i do actually watch chinese movies, but i had a hunch this one would be terrible... i was right.
during my first grade my mother forgot to pick me up from school one day. and since i made it home on my own, i was expected to go to school on my own.
and it is MOST CERTAINLY an "asian thing". i've been crying on the inside since i was a child.
Alright, so, 1) HAPPY BIRTHDAAAAAAAAY!!! 2) When did you get so hot? When you turned 22? (lol) 3) Your last video, "You teach me and I'll teach you" was effin' hilarious. Loved the Shaolin Soccer reference!!!
I was so tempted to get Kung Fu Dunk just because the cover caught my eye, also as far as Steven Chow movies go I've only seen a few, Shaolin Soccer, Kung Fu Hustle, God of Cookery, and the one I didn't see you mention above was the Sixty Million Dollar Man (which is crazy, but you'd love it :p)
my birthday was last week too. happy birthday to both of us. mine was 13th, two days before you! I'm from taiwan, i live in london and they're still back at home. they call me and text me to say happy birthday, i don't really think it's an asian thing... your parents were probably just busy :-)
It was really funny how my friend turn 20 last year, and then my other friend's mom says to her in a birthday card, "Happy birthday. Sorry, no more teenager." LOL. And Stephen Chow is AWESOME. I just watched King of Beggars some weeks ago, and it's hilarious :D
Hmm my parents forget my birthday all the time when I confronted my father you know what he does he looks all awkward and hands my a red envelope with €575,- in it nice though but no happy B-day son
Well the money made up allot but still would have been nice for them to actually remember instead of buying Me off every time
haha! i have a tendency to forget my parents birthdays. they should give me some credit. at least, it's roughly near the end of march and end of april. remembering birthdays is not my thing anyway! it's just a reminder that u're getting old and everything sounds like shit.
Seriously was thinking about ms yau earlier really randomly... Like od randomly.. And then now u popped up on subscription page... I swear lol so weird @-@ happy belated birthday! You're old! :p hope u had a good one tho!
yea well my parents don't care about birthday. I got the wrong birth date on my birth certificate because my dad didn't even file it until 5 months later...so he just put whatever. Now I have two birthdays and only celebrate it with my friends of course. Parents just count the year i've been born to determine my age.
ahhhh my family forgot my birthday too!!!!! it does feel like some weird chinese/asian thing huh??? how sad D; even when i tell them a few days b4 they still forget.... c~(=A=|||)
My parents forget my birthday all the time...They say as long as you know it's your b-day that's good enough LOL Asian parents...Well mine at least XD
Haha... It's the same with my parents... I drop hints, but of course... they don't pick it up... it's like:“為甚麼你今天成日都說關於生日的東西呀?今天又不是你生日。。。哎呀等等。。。今天是不是_____呀?哎呀真的是你生日呀!!!!!生日快樂!“
Yeah, no birthdays. It's definitely a Chinese thing. Why? I heard an explanation on the Chinese radio once. It shouldn't be a day for your celebration, but a day for your mom, because it was she who took care of you for 9 months and then give you life on that day!
Hi Miss Yao! Been following you for years! Never have I once wish you happy birthday before. =S But there's always a first time for everything right! So, Happy Birthday! =DD
@MissYau same here, mine were stopped pretty early too... I also never had any birthday parties (the ones when you're a kid and had your class/ friends around) I got a cake and a card... When I asked why my mum just said "I didn't want to clean up after you." lol! my parents also don't know how old we are.... =_="
It's funny 'cause my mom remembers my birthday up until the ACTUAL day. It would literally be two weeks of reminders, and on the actual day, she completely blanks out. I think out of the 21 birthday I've had, maybe 14 of them she actually remembered on her own. The others were either reminders from my siblings, grandparents, friends, or even me. ;__; /howsad
Dude I totally get where you're coming from, my parents NEVER remember my birthday.. .. hmmm, I'm gonna try my best to not give them any hints about my birthday for a year, I wonder if they'll be confused on why I didn't age that year XD
i give it 6 out of 10 its hilarious because the guy is like confused when he missed the basket... my parents forgot my birthday... and we were on vacation to celebrate it... they didn't realize till like 3 days later
my birthday is actually this saturday lols; i hope they remember since i sorta remind them; i be like "ahhh my birthday is coming soon"! i guess ill see by then :)!
YES IT IS my dad forgot it was my sisters birthday 4 days ago and my mom was like oh yeah yesterday...... I forgot also...... but yea that is how it is for Asian parents :)
Happy Belated Birthday!! and yess omg my parents forgotten my 15th birthday too last year ;__; their excuse was that they were too busy to remember and give me a phone call... but my brother didn't bother reminding them neither!!
Honestly, I would give that movie maybe...3/10 haha.
However, I realized from that film that because there are so many HK actors yet they are speaking Mandarin that Mandarin is easier to understand if Cantonese people speak it. Haha!
My parent's don't even remember my age, neither my birthday. They never eve celebrate my birthday XD But I guess it's some kind of Vietnamese thing, that everyone get one year more at new year's eve :D

Honestly, I would give that movie maybe...3/10 haha.
However, I realized from that film that because there are so many HK actors yet they are speaking Mandarin that Mandarin is easier to understand if Cantonese people speak it. Haha!
