Now if I still remember correctly, this film was supposed to be about some new girl from outta town who meets up with some guy who works at the bakery.

Well, Boyle is Kar-wai's third arm, but have you seen the stuff he shoots for lessor directors? Not So Good. It's true that in this film, the cinematography is the tail that wags the dog, but Wong at least deserves credit for his exquisite sense of taste in casting Chan Marshall.

This marvelous stroke of casting is nearly nullified by the miscasting of Nora Jones, sadly.

And to the fool who said Justin Timberlake is a bad actor -tho his music IS bad- 3 words: Black Snake Moan.

yeah. i think that part about delivering her lines comes from her being a great musician. as an amateur but passionate musician, sometimes, when i am into a song and am at the start of a sentence, i completely forget the next but when i just keep moving on with sentence no.1, the other sentence just comes naturally. i THINK, this could be somewhat similar. just saying :)

I don't think the song was playing when I saw this. Or at least not mixed this high. I watched the "Blockbuster exclusive" DVD version. Anyway when I was watching this just a few days ago I was like "oh boy I wonder if that is Cat Power" and it was. Thats why I don't think the music was this high or I'd have to be retarded not to figure it out. The Jude law speech before the train shot wasn't in the version I saw either. No point to my comment I'm just saying. Cat Power is the shit.

As a rule famous musicians make bad actors because in order to get over big as a musician you have to be really good at being you, whereas for acting you have to be good at being someone else. Check out the film Purple Rain where all Prince can really do is stand there and be Prince for an example of this. Justin Timberlake succeeds as an actor because he is a uniquely nondescript pop star.

I think she would be even better with a less awkward script. Considering it was her first acting role, she still does well with corny lines about metaphorical 'doors' and 'keys'. There's something very warm about her personality, and she has a lot of charisma, which really comes out here.
