The hole on the surf board was originally for a sail mass so you could turn it into a wind surfer. This camper originally came out back in like 94 or 95. I know this because this was one of my favorite lego vehicles!

That yellow hole is there because that "surf board" piece was from a lego series where they wind surfed. They put the "sail" in that hole. Good review!!
