TIP: using VLC Media Player, the playback speed can be controlled by clicking on the speed (1.00x) displayed next to the playback time/length at the bottom of the player's window. A slider will appear that allow you to adjust the playback faster or slower. In other words, you do not have to go to the dropdown menu to change the playback speed.
