However, there in practice isn't sound in space because one particle could have to travel 500 miles before hitting another one

It's like you have a car than can go 70mph. But then someone says, hey, wait, it will go 70.000001 mph! So if it breaks Einsteins idea of limit, it's not like an amazing difference. In fact it just might be a margin of error. Like you said, they don't quite believe it.

i hope you re trolling! the sun (to our eyes) is a bright glowing ball... doesnt matter from where we look at it. these images were recorded by telescopes that are only sensitive to certain wavelengths, or that are very insensitive to a large spectrum, just like looking at the sun through a welders mask.
