  • Lord, that couple in the raccoon coat....love it!!!! :-D

  • this will come back, i mean its fucking amazing haha

  • @sinclairalex80 I think the majority of today's teen/young adult generation is way too lazy to ever get into these amazing dances of yesteryear. I mean, some kids today are killing it with that Shuffle dance, but other than that...couch potatos. Or should i say, computer clods.

  • I think there are dance revolutions, like, u had the waltz, if you notice, these charleston dances kind of start with the waltz hold, and the charleston steps are then used later in more modern dance steps, like disco has influenced our style 35 years after it became big! we still line dance and use the same steps and rythm of disco, we just call it other things!

  • Hey! Shepard Smith is the announcer!

  • where did u get this song or video i would like a copy of the song

  • EPIC.

  • haha nice. I like the Poor poor girl whose partner will not do anything but push her around the floor tehn POP up every once in a while !!

She goes by and looks at teh camara at 1:13 like HELP !

  • Hey, there used to be a version of this video with an incorporated beat (making the song/dance even more awesome), does anyone know where that went?

  • At least the last part is "Black Bottom", but in the whole it looks like a sort of medley.

  • The music is "Black Bottom", right?

  • love the 20s dance scene? visit twitter @Jazz_Craze or myspace/TheJazzzKing :-D

  • This video is being featured for JAZZ CRAZE at myspace/TheJazzzKing :-)

  • yep, theres a reason they called it the Roaring twenties. Good times.

  • Does anybody know the name of this song? I want to buy it!

  • love how they got people doin' the raccoon too :D Fab! xxx

  • i just barely learned what the "racoon" is! haha. yeah, it's cute to see them do it.

  • hehehe :D xxx

  • So many know alls, i

  • SEE! White males can dance.

  • This is so cool!! (Since it's April Fool's Day I'm watching it upside down, and even so it looks amazing, lol.) Wish I could dance like this!!!!

  • Accurate or not,...This routine captures the Spirit of Charleston in a delightfully creative way....Don't be so anal...just enjoy...peace.

  • Hi!

Good video. If someone know, tell me please, how this song is called?! Thank you.

  • For me...this the best Charleston routine on film...love watching.

  • Is this from the movie Don't knock the Rock? If so then the movie was made in 1956 so it is not really charleston from the 1920's! Having said that its a lovely and pretty accurate reproduction. Love the music too.

  • Yes, it was made in 1956. however, 2 issues to point out. many of the dancers in this clip were "Swing era" dancers and learned from those who actually did these dances, and second, in 1956 there were plenty of people alive still from the 20's to make sure the dancing to be represented accurately...too many people back then to call them on it.

Today, we can do anything and call it 20's, because there is not a single person old enough to say otherwise...

  • @twobarbreak yeah, a person born in 1910 who was a teen in the twenties would have only been in their 40s, Still agile enough even to show how it was done ! LOL But i do notices that one dance usually evolves off another previous to it, like when i watch clips from the 40s , i see kicks and moves that are similar to what is featured in clips from the 20s ! Like before it was called swing, they had what they called, "stomps" which were what i believe to be the mother of swing!

  • This is really slow for the charleston and almost boring to watch. A lot of the dance moves being used arn't part of the dance.

I think the director could have done better.

  • What makes you think Charleston should be done at any specific tempo? And what moves are not part of what dance?

This was a 1920's era of dancing performance, The dances they do include Black Bottom, the Racoon, and Charleston (i don't recall Varsity Drag).

  • Actually the charslton does have an exact tempo and it is the tempo that the original song called the "Charleston" that the dance was based off of. They are dancing too slow.

I was refering to when they were doing the charlston for the moves. Some do not belong.

  • well, first , Charleston doesn't have a specific tempo, it doe's have a specific rhythm.

however, no where does it say this a "Charleston" performance. It's a 20's performance as stated above, with many steps from dances such as the Black Bottom.

  • @bloodysword4 Reading your comment. I don't agree. Plus a lot of those old movies from the 1920s were at an unnaturally fast pace as the frame rates weren't always in sync with reality. Do a search on YouTube for "1920's The Charleston". The pace is about the same, as are the motions. In reality, the 1950s reenactment may be a bit too smooth, as the Charleston was often a somewhat unrefined wild dance. Do another search on YouTube for "Putting on the Ritz" starring Harry Richman, then you see.

  • @SofiaRemus How can you watch all of those seperate, wonderful dance routines coinciding with one another and even feign to be bored by them? They're awesome.

  • como se llama esa cancion? urgente

  • vou fazer um trabalho (projeto escolar) sobre os anos 20, uahhushuahus' isso eh massa xD

i'm going to do a work of it.

  • Double Awesome ! !

These really are the coolest dancers. Both Musically and Technically.

    A real gem !

  • I would like to know how this song is called, because the title is the name of another song (swing), or so called. Thank you

  • This was actually a dance that occured before swing came out but you are correct they are very similar. "The Charleston" was one of the dances you saw there.

  • supoyb

  • If I drank bathtub gin, I could dance like that too! My uncle would tell me stories of taking his old girlfriend to the local speakeasy. It was a risky endeavor, but lots of fun. It's funny to imagine our grandparents as wild party animals. History always repeats itself.

  • Gosh they're all so amazing! And I would kill for shoes like that. They are so cute!
