all i have to say is jesus fucking christ almighty... the guy is so good he should be administering last rights with that shit... i know i would die happy
Andy had played a john petrucci solo called innocence faded.. I too was a fan of both technical electric playing, classical pieces, and acoustics of andy mckee
I used to be in a death metal band, then i heard andy mckee and many other amazing acoustic guitarists. i'm now doing solo acoustic acts in indianapolis, and i have andy to thank for the inspiration to follow my dream :)
but don't get me wrong, death metal is still badass.
@artcellrox That's what i hear! haha i saw an interview where andy admitted he listened to a lot of metal before he played acoustic. and i wouldn't doubt andy is capable of playing a john petrucci solo, andy is god.
Looks easier than drifting... at least the first bit does at least. The only difficult bit is the rhythm. :) I'm tempted to learn. Perhaps after art of motion.
@jluvsmetal Don't. Trust me, I've tried. Andy even said it himself on a Reddit AMA that, of all the songs in his career, "from a technical point of view [...] Hunter's Moon was a bit of an accomplishment". Plus, he also said he finds it the most challenging to play.
I think something crazy would be for him to compose a song that requires you to change tuning while you continue to play. I really think thats one of the cooler ideas I've had in a while.
Everyone there is this guy on youtube called @Ceevro and he is teaching this very song!
I found him yesterday and yes one of his videos had to get re-uploaded, since the audio was off time with the video, but I asked him to sort it out and he did all that and finished all lessons! So please if you want to learn this song go to his channel and start with the edited video lesson, like I said the other one is broken. Thumbs up so others can see!
@BlackTulps dude. someone else being better than you is no reason to quit. i'm in a tough spot looking for stuff to learn, meanwhile i'm surrounded by people who can improvise the coolest stuff. i'm still playing though
@aznguy1999 It's a Greenfield guitar the frets and the bridge are slanted on purpose for something about the tuning and tension of the strings I'm not exactly sure.
@aznguy1999 Andy is using a Greenfield guitar and he had his customized to use a Fan-Fret system. Fanned Fret guitars provide an ergonomic design in playing and also allows the guitar to maintain perfect tuning throughout the entire fretboard (Regular "Straight" Fretboards dont have this). Next time you pick up your guitar, tune your guitar to standard as close as possible. Now in theory, your E should sound A on the 5th fret. On the 10th fret it should also sound D, but it is off slightly.
@artcellrox According to Andy, Don Ross, and other guitarists who use Fanned Fret acoustics, they say that there's hardly a difference in the feel. They even say if you just picked one up, you would just play as it was straight. I looked at the dimensions and there's not much of a difference at all. Also I hear it's much easier on the hands so you would probably get a better feel on your form along with tone. I only wish big brands utilize this.
@aznguy1999 Cont. This also explains why whenever you capo your guitar (that is originally tuned already), it is slightly out of tune after you capo it at around 4+
i would chop my dick and balls off just for that fucking guitar. I actually don't even know if i would really do it. Those guitar take 3 fucking years to get. shit..
@dapperslapper actually, i somewhat agree with you. this isn't exactly the kind of song that i would listen to over and over again like i would with drifting, but it is also one of the most incredible pieces of guitar music ever written. the technical aspect of this song amazes me every time i watch it, yet its missing a good melody.
@postcanyonbike well is not as catchier as Drifting, maybe you need to listen to this one more times to actually get it, and it has a GREAT melody, specially on 2:17 for example, Drifting is like going for a ride in a Ferrari, I see this song more like the mother of all roller coasters.
At the start of this song I thought "here we go another Typical Andy McKee song" but buy the first harmonics I was already smiling. So I guess I was right It is just another typical Andy McKee song, because all Andy McKee songs are... Amazing.

This would be so much better if it wasn't on Vevo. But still an amazing song.
