  • in the beginning i caught myself saying ...one two, microphone checkah one two.

    pretty "diabolical"

  • I just heard a 2012 edit of this jam and it blew my fucking socks off.......

  • The Aswad Cover of this song is pretty awesome too

  • MC Solaar

  • One of my favorite songs ever. I am sick of rapper thieves stealing great music and desicrating (fucking it up) it with junk lines and calling it theirs. That is just part of the rap culture and I am old school. They rarely pay royalties to the original writers and performers. I had the vinyl until an ex stole all my records back in the day.

  • @Buckeyecat2002 If it wasn't for the rappers, many people would not have heard of the original.

  • @SuperDominicd -Good point. I was rapper, back in the day. I used all original music, no samples.

  • Sample repris pour la chanson de MC SOLAAR: Bouge de la , en effet . je kiffai trop , grand souvenir

  • MC SOLAAR - 'Bouge de là !' (1991)

  • microphone check a one-two

  • For the six dislikes. WTF!!!! Are you a human with ears????? Jeesh!

  • You have to remember this song came out in the early 70's the Anti-Aparthied movement was in full effect this song meant a lot to the brothas in South Afica, Angola, and Southern Africa listen to the words, I know the beat is nasty but the words are so strong.

  • It possibly doesn't get better than this

  • @divisivecottonwood

Just heard this song today for the 1st time.Awesome stuff. And I agree,it possibly does not get any better.Nicely put.

  • these guys made such sweet sweet sounds!

  • remember me a track of mc solaar !! so good :)

  • This has got me smiling from ear to ear, remembering when this came out....my brothers had this album and I would sneak and listen to it when they weren't around! I would go back to those days in a New York minute! Thanks for posting!

  • just ask de la soul

  • ME AND THE BIZ!!!!.....

  • Your missing your own party

  • GTA San Andreas :DDDD

  • TUNE

  • this has been one of my favorite songs ever since i was a little kid back in the late 70's

  • MC SOLAAR French rapper had remixed this single with new lyrics in the tittle "Bouge de là !" in the beggining of 90's and had made famous this kind of music all over France and countries speakink french (francophone countries)

    .youtube.com/watch?v=dxTFdkdkAtw

    Lot of thanks MC Solaar

  • @johnnie832 Plus précisement: Merci à Jimmi Jay :)

  • i had this back in the 70's...thanks for the memories

  • @MrKeithMJones >I had this album too! LOL! My best friend and I would listen to this all of the time while doing homework! LOL! This band was the bomb back in the day! Word was that they were from Brooklyn, NY? I grew up on Long island and had relatives in Brooklyn. This jam was the bomb! I loved their sound and their music! What memories! I have to call my friend who now lives in Seattle, WA! Where are bands like this today?

  • @debgirl12000 I think they were based in Brixton, London, England, as it goes.

  • @BoodleTube Thanks for the information! I have a gew e-mail pen pals from England who let me know about this group and where they resided from. British funk! I love it! I love them. I have so many memories of this group and this song! Doing my home work with my friends and listening to this album back in the day! Whatever happened to these bad dudes!

  • @debgirl12000 Can't link here but if you type "The Equals - Funky Like A Train", or "Labi Siffre - I Got The Blues" those are two more examples of humble British acts who's songs have had a big influence in The States, but with no one being any the wiser that they hail from London!

  • Did anyone else notice the "symolize" typo at 1:07?

  • Solid!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • funks not dead

  • GROOVY!

  • PS what's with the squeaking mice in the beginning? not complaining, just wondering. they kinda set the scene.

  • @LiberaLib NO

  • @jspesh crap. does that mean i don't win the free steak knives?

  • @LiberaLib the records a bit worn/slightly dodgy pressing and the needle creates that undesired squeak, my copy does the same. :)

  • it's those half-clippy, i think it's low-midrange electric piano, chords in the rhythm under the verses that make it, if you ask me.

  • @LiberaLib the horn in the chorus is nice too

  • So much respect to RSKL1 for presenting this and SHOWING THE CREDITS FOR THIS ALBUM. No one does that. All those musicians, writers, and or producers who worked on these albums should get recognition. Thank you

  • anyone can tell me what instrument plays the main riff?

  • @davidtheguitarman organ? guitar with very low treble and some kind of effect?

im not quite sure. just my short thoughts.

  • @davidtheguitarman Probably a guitar due to the ghost notes you can hear the guy playing.

  • @Reallydakid All good you have great taste!

  • music of my childhood!!! mom bought me a record for my birthday. it was cymande "the message". i loved the music from the first sound. i was teenager in communistic poland and the music was hot, magic, absolutely fantastic. now, glimpses of childhood, heart of youngster full both of energy and melancholy. i feel it now and i'm touched.

  • @68Asatru nice memories!! You must have had one hip mom!! I got a lot of Polish friends here in chicago and some of them tell me how they were introduced to "Black" music and how it influenced them...gotta say I'm talking about 50 year old plus individuals who like yourself have many memories of communist Poland...peace to you and yours!!

  • SICK TUNE!!!!

  • that stuff sounds rude i wanna skank all night to it :)

  • Funky love...reminds me of the pinball number count song...

  • Funky!!

  • Masta Ace n Mellow Man Ace should never be confused. nothin alike. mite as well throw ACE of BASS in there too then

  • Definately ahead of their time - U.K. labels didn't know how to handle them, so they went to U.S. and got to number 2 on the Billboard chart

  • Me and The Biz is the best sample

  • @jeromesee masta ace baby

  • sweet <3

  • Deeply awesome.

  • YES YES YES

  • There's not much better than this. I always wanted my band to sound like this! For some reason we sounded like GBH :-)

  • I love this song. Also I appreciate the way you shared the information on the album. A very nice informative insightful touch. This is important history.

  • The Coup also sampled it for "I ain't the N*%%a"

  • Gotta love good music

  • just me and the biz..... masta ace

  • yeah thats where i found about this as well, i love it though, so funky.

  • can u believe this was recorded in 70s uk who say we dont no music

  • The name sounds French. How do you say it?

  • sa-man-dey

  • I have always wondered.. thought it might be like "Simon Day"

  • It figures; I was saying it wrong. LOL When I first saw it, what popped into my head was "sigh-mond". LOL

  • Bouge de là- MC solaar?

  • Um I don't speak French. lol

  • @tall32guy MC Solaar is a french MC who sampled this song in his title "Bouge de là !" (my transation : "Get lost")

  • LOL!! Ah ok. :)

  • merci :)

  • You know it. Good ear.

  • pure...

  • Fantastic groove! That's some nice funky organ!

  • Arguably the funkiest british band ever!!!

  • wow!!! it's hard to believe that this song was recorded so long ago. It seems like just yesterday. Good music like this is timeless, though. It sounds like it should be a major hit if it was recorded today.

  • Lol, that was great restlesswind!

  • i dont know about that man. this kind of music goes so well with a specific type of drug. the green and healthy kind.

  • LOVE this song, always have, always will. Sampled on "And It Wasn't a Dream" by Ruthless Rap Assassins.

  • was this song on san andreas?

    great song btw

  • I think ( don't quote me) it was Mellow Man Ace's "Me & The Biz" ( with Biz Markie, of course). I actually got turned on to Cymande myself because of that song, and someone pointed it out to me after blabbing about how great this beat was. I am now a Cymande freak. Thanks for posting this video.

And if I ever post this many parenthesis ever again, I give you all full permission to stab my face.

    Go Cymande!

  • It's Masta Ace, not Mellow Man Ace. Right song, wrong MC. :) It's a natural mistake, they both came out around the same time.

  • My mistake! I wrote this under the influence! I plead the fifth! You know what I meant! Eheeh!

  • I did. :) Just didn't want anyone to be misled.

  • great tune, haven't heard this in years

  • This song was remade in the mid 70s by a spanish-language (I believe them to be Mexican) cumbia/go-go lounge group called Hielo Ardiente. The title was "El Mensaje" (a direct translation of the English title).

  • Is there a version of this song in spanish? If so, I'd love to devour it. :)

  • dnb remix is funky

  • Dnb remix!? Where and who? I've known about Cymande forever, but that fact and this being the coolest youtube comment page ever makes me so happy!!! DnB remixes and people getting high to Cymande!!! I love you all!!!! We should toke and listen to/ make music together!!!

  • Haha, quality.

  • ed rush & optical did a dnb remix of it

  • I have a white label vinyl of it too, always wondered what the original was and then I watch The 25th Hour.

  • ye its siiiiik! :) original will always b class tho

  • Masta Ace with "Me And The Biz" sampled this beat also...

  • I take you fellas didn't read the info provided by "RSKL1"?

    LOL

  • This was "THE DANCE TUNE" back in the 70s. This group was on Soul Train. Soul train even came out with a best of Soul Train Album that had their cut "Bra" on it. Lots and lots of great music from that time. RSKL1, thanks for sharing. You're the best!

  • This very song was on another Soul Train album, "Hits That Made It Happen," from 1973. I still have the album.

  • the coup!! I Ain't the Nigga

  • i love cymande!

  • Oh, I just love getting high to this song. The closed eye visuals I get while listening to Cymande are just ineffably incredible. Driven by the extent of the best euphoria.

  • Solid tune.

  • Masta ace sampled this for me and the biz too on his first classic album.

  • this cut was featured in a spike lee film starring ed norton...i hadn't heard it since i lent it to a friend after it was released in the 70s...many thanks RSKL1 for tha reunion

  • Spike killed me with that. He had this and their other hit, "Bra" on back to back. Before that I thought it was some strange music my dad brought back from Africa that nobody else had. I remember my dad had it on a tape, with another song they did, "Rastafarian Anthem." Nasty groove, reminds me of New Orleans too

  • The Ruthless Rap Assasins also sampled this on "And It Wasn't A Dream" & it worked realy well...

  • GROOVY SONG. PHILIPS was a record label? Get the fuck outta here!

  • Reminds me of the Acid Jazz days - gardening Club, Woody's, Vic Naylor's, hanging out with the Brand New Heavies, Galliano etc. circa 90,91. Those were the days...

  • bouge de là!!

  • bouge de la!

  • mp3 anyone?

  • who remember this tune when soul 2 soul used to play at glasshouse and africa centre?

  • Wow, Masta Ace sampled this beat on 'Me and the Biz' This track sounds cooler tho.

  • O fcourse it does its the original! Lush tunes when stoned and rocking to the dub like beat...

  • this was no, i mean is a damned gooood jam!

    i still have the 45. yeah !

  • Wow! I haven't heard this in over 25 years! I remember buying it though. Someone must have stolen it from me. I'm grooving now!

  • quoi une juste la meilleur chanson funk de tout les temps le pire en france c'est que ca la version bidon de MC soulard qui plus connu, ringard tu m"étonnes...

  • master ace used this sampler for his joint just me and the biz(biz markie)

  • "Sure as Stephanie Mills playin' Dorothy in The Wiz--it's Me & The Biz"! LOL! Man, that was a great use of this song. Good stuff.

  • Neponovljivo!

  • An you know this man! Threre was so much funk bacl then that you could not absorb it. I just wish it could go on and on and on. But then so could I wish for Fats Waller and Jelly Roll Morton.....

  • priceless!thanks so much.

  • Cymande, the most underrated band/music. Praised only by those who appreciate quality music and those who want to smple it

  • you got that right

  • The best. Sampled a million times. I ain't heard a better or more original chugging groove.

  • picked up the cymande discography off the torrents, because I had heard crayshaw, enjoy it very much....

  • 30 years later and i still LOVE this music.

  • I got that album that MF got some fire on it

  • Irgendwas von Fettes Brot tönt auch ordentlich nach diesem Track... geklaut von FB ? Frikadelle am Ohr oder sowas?

  • Me & the Biz

  • Absolute funky heaven, amazing collaboration between jazzy calypso beats, funky melodies, with some amazing Jamaican and Guyanese cultural background. Bliss.

  • This Album is one of the greatest ever!! Inundated with excellent carribean funk. Grenada representin'!

  • Uh Huh....There you go!!!!!

  • Master Ace samples this song on Just Me And The Biz.
