@1xirsx1 its actually pretty fun once you get into it. It seems like it isn't very appealing in video but once you play it and get to a decent level, its pretty fun. Especially if you have a fun active guild or friends.
ahw im not sure witch path to follow, commando or vanguard?
i want to focus on dps, but i dont like the bulky cannons commandos use.. and i would like to know witch one of them have the best advantage in pvp. or easiest to play at any rate.
Taugrim!! I remember watching your videos of warhammer! Glad that i found you on Swtor aswell! I see you still play on the good side ;) Keep up the good work!
I need help, i'm a level 21 commando and i've started doing PVP, but I have none of the abilities, well I do but i'm missing alot you have and I have checked my abilities
im so confused about what class i want... In one of your videos you fought a 50 bounty hunter and he looked like a fun class but you were playing as a Jedi sentinel and i also thought that class looked good too, Which one do you think is better?
I got a question: If you use WASD to move, how do you find it handy to have key bindings on T, Y, G and H? Aren't they too far away from your fingers?
@taugrimtaugrim Holy quaking testicles, you use very unusual keybindings. I think I'll try them with my mercenary. I'll definitely subscribe to see some more of this complex way of playing. thanks
Please note that your cells regen faster the more of it you have(in combat). The key to playing a trooper is to try keep your cells above 8 at all times. Once you dip down below 3 it'll take you quite a while to regen back cells.
Hey, I'm gonna roll commando gunnery or assault doesn't matter, I love the class but it feels like the commando isn't my kind of style even though I love the ac, what do u think of vanguards in pvp? I heard u're rolling vanguard/powermech is that for any particular reason? Because I'm thinking of going commando/vanguard/scoundrel dps and I'm confused as u can see :)
Hey could you answer my question: I love the way this class looks, but I want to experience the single player questing and storyline, is this healing spec powerful enough to allow you to handle most single player content?
@Lumberjack33x healers in this game do functional DPS, so have no fear about rolling a healer for soloing. They're actually great at it, especially with their pet (companion).
Unlike some other games, there is no "healbot" in SWTOR.
@taugrimtaugrim No, I don't follow your live streams, mostly catching them on the replay later in the evenings. I do admire a lot of the advice you give to noobie PvP players, when this game launches I will be trying to get my brother, a non gamer, into pvp. That will be crazy. I have a similar key mapping to you though my middle finger rests on R. I find it better for healing as I link my groupmates to number keys.
Add to the above, when your team has the ball you should concentrate on healing/protecting your ball handler. You should not be killing enemy players, CCing them and knocking them into the pit. This is because if you kill them, they pop at their end, right where your ball handler is trying to go. If you kill them you create a new line of defense at the end of the map.
It is also far better to ground the ball than to die with it. I love your vids but I just groan in agony when I see this.
@viperswhip I meant above that you should CC and knock enemy players into the pit when you have the ball (not if your ball handler is in there obviously).
@viperswhip for the most part you are correct, but if you're pure dps with no real heals then once you've used your cc any enemies that are still around are free to lay into the carrier.. in that case it's better to take out the few that remain attacking your carrier, giving your team the extra 10-20 secs hassle-free while the enemy spawns.. instead of 10-20 secs of their focused fire onto your healers/carrier
but yes, definitely ground the ball if you are on your own about to die
@ColostomyCake It is better since they added the respawn shield, but my group has dominated every Hutball match with just the strategy I mentioned. Watch what happens when you DPS an enemy to 15% of their health, they drop into the pit by themselves. You don't have to kill them, they take themselves out of the fight most of the time. If you are near the line then okay I suppose, but in most cases it's easier to keep them alive and wasting time and energy on healing.
@ColostomyCake No problem, I wish I had a screenshot of the match where we won 6-0 all with close to 120k damage or healing and only 7 kills between the 4 of us. I don't stream on my pc, it just isn't good enough and I have fairly low upstream bandwidth. I will leave it to the pros like Taugrim.
but the commando is hasnt the highest DPS on republic side ? Which classes do the most damage in PVP-zones(i.e. hutball) in general? jedi shadow or sentinel? would be great if you could answer
@admiristschwul every DPS class I've played is capable of packing out tremendous amounts of damage, even at low levels, if played correctly.
As a Commando I find myself healing quite a bit even when I was Gunnery or Assault Spec, because I can. Obviously spending resources and GCDs lowers one's damage output. But make no mistake, a well-played Commando or Mercenary can wreck foes on the battlefield.
Great videos. I'll be playing SWTOR, and I plan on getting into PVP more. I've played other MMOs, but I've never really been a PVP player. However, I've enjoyed the SWTOR Warzones during the weekend beta, but I have so much to learn. Your calm and concise commentary really illuminates many aspects of PVP that I've been ignorant about. It feels like I'm learning a lot simply by watching your videos. Keep up the great work!
@doe791 correct. The class mechanics between two Advanced Classes that share the same base class are different enough that they really are two different classes.
Hey guys, i'v made a new channel and will upload great PvP Gameplay, Tips, Guide and others video on SWTOR (i have a lvl 44 sith assassin as of now). If you want to check it, and suscribe ;) Thx !
@taugrimtaugrim that would be your suggestion as you have typed it... I dont sit in one place very long I dont attempt to exploit the hazzards to get more kills (as if I was an inq for ex. id be up behind you and kb you into them) most huttballs I see half the opp team sitting up top the catwalks raining down on anyone near the center and being all bunched up as they were a solo have little luck vs that sit. trooper is however imo easiest repub class to play..curious to see u play scoundrel
I enjoy how you point out the non-linearity of ammo regen, since most players I've seen tend to ignore/not notice that. I also see them spam their abilities until they have no ammo left, which minimizes their regen. A good Trooper will HAVE to use Hammer Shot every once in a while to keep their ammo high. Maximum ammo regen = more abilities.
I love the non-linear regen, it adds another level of skill / complexity to gameplay. This isn't a game where you can brainlessly spam cast spells. You have to interleave your mana-free abilities and be smart about popping the 2-min emergency regen cooldown.
I was watching your stream on Twitch a few days ago, like the fact that you communicate with your audience without being a jerk and you seem to enjoy giving out info. Good job and thanks for the stream and videos
@connman1991 the healing classes in this game have functional damage, which is very different from some other games where healbots hit like noodles. When playing Combat Medic I do a mix of healing and damage, depending on the situation.
i played the trooper to only lvl 16 and loved every moment of it from questing to pvp combat... and also rolled the commando/healer spec ^_^ loads of fun even healed a few dungeons (not sure what they call them in swtor yet).
Note to any Bounty Hunters watching, this is very similar to the Mercenary class. So if you want to watch how they play out, you can watch this and get good information.
Awesome vid as always Taugrim. You are a gentlemen and a scholar. Your vids are accessible to the experienced as well as the newbie, such as myself. I'm looking forward to playing a Trooper Vanguard (Tank). I liked how you overall showed how a Trooper can hold it's own (with smart gameplay) against Sith Warrior/Inquisitor. Being able to actually "tank" in PvP sounds cool. Not experienced, just my personality type, i guess. When you level a tank, do you focus on DPS gear/build or 'tank' PvE?
In terms of gearing when I level a tank, if I am doing instancing (flashpoints) I will pick up tanking gear to make things easier for the healer. While solo questing or in PVP I take whatever gear has the best stats, and typically favor DPS gear. In most games, the PVE gear isn't good for PVP.
In terms of solo questing, that seems to be the case with all the major MMOs in order to level a tank (i.e. go '2 handed weapon' and kill as much as possible as fast as possible). Tough sledding when you are not a DPS class/spec that wants to do PvE.
Your site mentioned "PvP tanking" will be a reality in this game with Guard and Taunt abilities and Defense points. If i'm not there to do damage, my "tank gear" should help me right?
@aceofspadez619 In most games, the PVE tanking gear doesn't work well in PVP, because the avoidance / mitigation mechanics for PVE boss fights is different from PVP mechanics, where you deal with CCs, damage of various types, etc.
Thanks for such a great video with very informative walk through. Unlike some of the other videos out there, this one was very well done in terms of abilities, demonstration of abilities as well as a good player.
I really liked how you explained what you're doing and what your skills do. It's also pretty rare to find a good quality video that doesn't have some stupid music playing over the top or a silly voice talking about how much the class or the player owns. You're commentary is really clear and this is just an excellent class video really, I hope you find some time to do some more for SWTOR.

Note to any Bounty Hunters watching, this is very similar to the Mercenary class. So if you want to watch how they play out, you can watch this and get good information.
terracearts 3 months ago
@terracearts exactly. BioWare made the great decision to have the classes be mirrors across the factions
taugrimtaugrim 3 months ago
@taugrimtaugrim mhm, helps greatly with game balance and the classes still have plenty of flavor which is good :]

@errVICIOUS BH / Trooper are mirrors, you can easily apply the tactics I discuss in any Commando video if you choose Merc as your AC.

When you level a tank, do you focus on DPS gear/build or 'tank' PvE?
aceofspadez619 3 months ago
@aceofspadez619 Thanks!
In terms of gearing when I level a tank, if I am doing instancing (flashpoints) I will pick up tanking gear to make things easier for the healer. While solo questing or in PVP I take whatever gear has the best stats, and typically favor DPS gear. In most games, the PVE gear isn't good for PVP.
taugrimtaugrim 3 months ago
@taugrimtaugrim Thanks for the quick response!
If i'm not there to do damage, my "tank gear" should help me right?
aceofspadez619 3 months ago
@aceofspadez619 In most games, the PVE tanking gear doesn't work well in PVP, because the avoidance / mitigation mechanics for PVE boss fights is different from PVP mechanics, where you deal with CCs, damage of various types, etc.
That's all I can say atm.

hey I got a question can u use hammer shot to heal yourself too ??

@Suekooo no, and it's a good thing Commando can't, it would be OP.

Thanks for such a great video with very informative walk through. Unlike some of the other videos out there, this one was very well done in terms of abilities, demonstration of abilities as well as a good player.

What do u think about the pvp system in GW2? For example the fact that u can kinda combine spells? =)
Great video again Taugrim!
