  • i hate 240p

  • Progression 1 is fuckin' awesome :/

  • 1:32 oops!

  • All of these videos should be called "Look at me show you how much better I am than you."

also, notice how many times he shows chord progressions or whatever and basically says 'figure out how to use those yourself."

  • 3:59 to 4:20 is my favorite part. Those riffs and hooks sound awesome

  • i love you yngwie malmsteen =) XD

  • Can anyone tell me what's the fender color name for that strat he's playing?

  • @voyager71390 probably vintage gold, or vintage white golden some thing.

  • man I fucking saw malmsteen on tuesday, and my life fucking changed. I took guitar pretty damn seriously, but now IM wayYYY more inspired and I want to pursue a career in music!!!

  • @pilotoatomico good luck man. i wanted to. i will never have a career in music.

  • The first solo he plays in here is such a killer! Hell yeah... Yngwie is so inspiring! A true master!!!

  • saaaaaaaaaave oooooooooour loooooooooove..........

  • man.. yngwie playing some soulful emotional guitar is like making love to the guitar!! love it!

  • Comment removed

  • no matter what other people say... Malmsteen has something in his playing that touches me:) his feel and passion... unbelievable:) thanks Yngwie..

  • @marcjuh11 Exactly man... Right there with you.... Yngwie is a genius and nobody can say otherwise...

  • he's right about the goddamn scalloping. I did it and it's a hassle. you get good vibrato and bending, but it's harder to play. and when you combine that with high action like malmsteen has it, and it's impossible. i couldn't play his guitar with his set up. i have no idea how he can sweep with action that high.

  • I'm a vibrato addicted and I can tell you guys, his vibrato is great because of 4 things:

    -.008 strings

    - Eb tuning

    - Stratocaster

    - Scalloped frets

So he's a great, great player, but don't overrate his vibrato technique. I think SRV deserves more respect on that, cuz he uses 0.013 on a strat, and gets a really neat vibrato. And listen to Gary Moore and Joel Xavier for some epic vibrato.

  • Now I love Yngwie Malmsteen, I spend all day watching videos of him playing but I don't have any albums. What albums should I get?

  • @MeetyHam Rising Force,the best pieces

you should also try Angels of Love

  • @MeetyHam all of them...lol....i like rising force, odyssey, fire and ice and marching out.....if u like acoustic then angels of love

  • I SO WANT THAT GUITAR!!!!!

  • muy buen sonido! como lo logra??

  • 27 - 4x12 cabinets and 24 heads.......he kills me

  • OK!! WTF did he just volume swell an arpeggio at 1:43. Are you fucking kidding me.

  • To all the guys who think he just 'lost' his playing ability, he was in a car accident in the 90s and had a number of surgeries on his hands becasue of it. He physically isn't able to play the same way he could in the 80s, so his technique changed a bit.

  • Killer vibrato.

  • @xDimebladex

That is your opinion!!! Take a listen to Yngwie's last 2 or 3 CD's if you get a chance!!! Yngwie still plays at a high level, and his technique is still great!!!

Everyone keeps saying that Yngwie has lost it, but I don't see it!!! His playing is still second to none!!!

  • @epic103 i haven't said he LOST it.

I just said he isn't as good as a few years ago in his technic.

and yes, he has a very unique style, but in the last few years (in my opinion since the concerto he did) he started do lack extremly in the ability to write such epic pieces as far beyond the sun or actually his whole concerto

  • en el minuto 9.30 no toco el intro de una cancion de poison jajaja?

  • If this was a malmsteen song.. it would be my favorite (L)

  • what's the title of the first thing he played!??? anyone>?? its really niceee. is it a song?? he made?? its soo sad.. ToT i like ittt! can anyone tell me>?? pls!?? :(

  • what's the title of the first thing he played!??? anyone>?? its really niceee. is it a song?? he made?? its soo sad.. ToT i like ittt! can anyone tell me>?? pls!?? :(

  • Progression 2 looks like a porno music! XD

  • @666pushead666 yeah, rabbits porn!

  • Is this one of his songs at 0:23 ?

  • Comment removed

  • Progression 1 = wow. Is this one of his song?

  • To hear some more amazing stuff click on wisztrock.

  • is this at start, a song? wich?

  • wow, yngwie playing rythym while he lets us solo, I like it...btw...what happened to him, he seems so happy in this video, his personality changed over the years.

  • @Nightwing690 I met him a few years ago, and hes just a bitter old man imo. He doesnt have many true fans any more and no one remembers what he did in the 80's.

  • @Nightwing690 this vid was shot about 21 yrs ago. a lot has changed and so has he. i know he went through a car crash and lost his mother in the 80's. but he's married with a kid now. i cant really tell you if he "seems" sad or angrier, he's just like that

  • Progression 1 = EPIC.

  • what if u are left handed and can't read music? Give us a shout back luv. lol

  • its unbelievable how good he is

  • I'm so glad to to be alive in the time of Yngwie Malmsteen. He is one in a trillion(ogy).

  • @Stratonini Wrong! he's THE ONY ONE! haha Peace! Play Loud!

  • @Stratonini

me 2. hendrix is dead. but yngwie lives now. we have the honor to be alive.

  • whats the name of this DVD?

  • rattle rattle*

  • the begginig solo is the best i ve heard.....its magnificent !!

  • People who say Malmsteen has no feeling can fuck off and then listen to this video. Yngwie J Malmsteen is God, be proud to live in the same century as him.

  • @NisseEricsson

    yep me 2^^

    high 5

i study music in hamburg at the school of music. and they always say i dont know what music is cause i hear yngwie malmsteen.

they dont know what an inspiration he is

  • @NisseEricsson - thats a great message you have there coz i fought with a guy over Malmsteens video for Red House and that dickhead said that Malmsteen cant play blues !! i told him that Malmsteen is one of the greates Blues players its the easiest thing for him to play blues with feel

  • I'd never buy a DVD from you. Andy James teaches your style and technique better than you, you choose to never give out your licks because you're an arrogant guitar player.

Everyone who thinks you're the last guitar player on earth should look up Andy James and really be amazed.

  • A couple mistakes, but it's still awesome! Every makes mistakes! Beautiful solo regardless!

  • @greem5385 mistakes???

  • What is the chord progression? (ignoring the tunning)

    Bm

    F suspended

    G

    ?

I tried to play here and this chords dont work at all... I think i'm missing some chord... Can someone tell me?

  • @HaykenBR I get it already... sorry... bad english...

    The chord progression is Bm - Bm/A - G - F#

  • Wow, the first song is beautiful. I would love tabs.

Does he have a name for the song?

  • fender stratocaster goldtop :D

  • imagine the stress of being malmsteen's guitar tech on the road lol!

  • @pilotoatomico

Yeah but I bet he gives him a lot o donuts

  • Yngwie wrote Black Star when he was only 14 in 1977 when he was in his Band Power House.

  • Let's face it, Yngwie J. Malmsteen put shredding on the map, if he hadn't been so brave we wouldn't be here right now and we would probably be posting comments on a backstreet boy's video, lol

But we would never do that, would we???? Lol

  • @ProgOn Yngwie was not the first, although he was ONE of the firsts... Paul Gilbert is from the same time and surpassed him beyond.

He might sound amazing to beginners, but once you understand music you see that Malmsteen is nothing but repetition and speed, and there are better players out there.

  • @MrOtty23

Paul Gilbert has said that Yngwie is one of his hero's. Don't get me wrong, Paul is great, but Yngwie is on another level!!! When Yngwie is on he's the best!!!

His vibrato is the best PERIOD!!!

  • @epic103 back than yngwie was the best. but nowadays he started to lack on technic and there are a bunch f guys which are better than him, which are better than he ever was

  • @xDimebladex you must be joking! where is your evidence of this? i've seen and heard Yngwie play recently and he's still on top of his game, if not better than ever!

  • @6EELZE6U6666 this is how I feel about him and how it looks for me.

but something he deffinetly lost, ist his the ability to write such extremly beautifu music as he had done ten years ago.

since his concerto suite he really lacked at composing ned GOOD stuff, but the concerto itself is excellent.

  • @xDimebladex I definitely agree. His last CD was really lacking. There's a few good tracks on there but a lot of it just doesn't measure up to the old stuff.

  • @epic103 Yngwie Malmsteen is Beethoven on Guitar!!! They dress the same anyhow...

  • @epic103 Vibrato with scalloped guitar is very easy. Yngwie is awesome, but Paul don't lose in nothing to him.

  • @BraianVeloso

Ask Paul, and see what he says???

Paul is great, he is a legend!!! But Yngwie is THE LEGEND!!!

  • @epic103 Because Paul is modest.

  • Paul is way better than Yngwie.

  • @LTDGuitars420

LOL!!! Paul is way better than Yngwie? Really, way better???

You must be joking? Because I don't think anyone is WAY better than Yngwie!!!

You may like Paul's music better, but to say he's better than Yngwie is nonsense!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @LTDGuitars420

Well, I think that your comment that Paul is WAY better than Yngwie is totally asinine!!!

And so what that Yngwie plays the same licks??? Yngwie plays the way he plays, he has his own style!!!

The same can be said for Clapton, Page, B.B King etc... who have been playing the same licks for the last 50 years!!!

The bottom line is, Yngwie is the best at what he does!!! Enjoy it for what it is, and stop hating!!!

    CHEERS!!!

  • I was never hating, I like Malmsteen. Otherwise I wouldn't be watching this video. Paul just has way more creativity in my opinion. Just like the guy who wrote the first comment said, Yngwie sounds great to beginners, but once you understand music more, you realize it's just repetition and speed. Although he can write great music a times.

  • @LTDGuitars420

LOL!!! Get off your high horse!!!

To imply that beginners will think Yngwie is great but "real musicians" won't is absurd!!! Yngwie is advanced!!! You have to be advanced to play Yngwie's stuff!!!

Like I said, Yngwie has his own style!!! He plays the way he plays!!! You either like it or you don't! Personally I think his style is very cool, he is a an Icon and Legend!!!

Paul is great, but he has nowhere near the body of work or the stature of Yngwie Malmsteen!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @LTDGuitars420

    YOU'RE CHEESY!!!

  • @LTDGuitars420 I have nothing against your opinion. But saying yngwie is just repetition and speed is ridiculous. Saying he sounds good only to beginners is ridiculous. The solo he plays in the beginning is phrased utterly perfectly combining speed and amazing vibrato. There are advanced players out there that can't touch his guitar phrasing. I would like to see you(or anyone for that matter) play something better over those chords.

  • Yes, he writes good music at times. You don't think he shreds a little to much though? Those constant, fast, economy picks don't get on your nerves ever? He's a great player no doubt, but in my opinion he shreds way to much, his improvisation gets extremely repetitive, and nearly all of his music is cheesy, as is the first chord progression you mentioned. I like him, but I think there are so many better guitarists out there, some of which don't get enough credit.

  • @LTDGuitars420 Honestly I love his shredding. It suits his style and him. My favorite players are Yngwie Malmsteen, Marty Friedman,Jason Becker, Shawn lane, and Steve Vai... I don't think his music is cheesy I love it. whether you like it or not depends on your personal taste. Im just saying don't dismiss his talent and hard work. The guitarists I mentioned above use speed as an expression to make music interesting. You wanna see annoying shredding look up Fransesco Fareri.

  • Agreed man, Friedman is actually my all time favorite.

  • @LTDGuitars420 Actually Friedman in my opinion is the king of guitar solo improvisation... you can play any rythmn track in the world and Friedman will make it sound like sex... He so good at soloing haha.

  • @LTDGuitars420 I agree with you, he definatley has feel in his music, but his shredding is almost the same every time he does it which is very dissapointing, it even sometimes ruins his music in my opinion. Either way he is a genious.

  • @epic103 Agreed, his vibrato is perfect

  • @MrOtty23 Repetition and speed huh?... I doubt you could phrase a solo better than him if your life depended on it... If you don't think the first solo he plays in this video is emotionally expressive and a clear demonstration of his mastery of the instrument then you don't understand music(No offense). Obviously there are other amazing players out there but saying who is better is just a matter of taste.

  • @toforlaw definitely talented but also put in a ton of work

  • does anybody have a tab for this cuz itsreally hard for me to figure it out by ear

  • Great person !

  • It is a pig but such a good guitar player sometimes !!

  • ~~ like all the greats, ~ he makes it look so easy !!

~ that blond strat was like melted butter in his hands.

  • 5:43 he even changes guitars at lightning speed :/

  • I love Yngwie, --He plays great, ---but forgettable licks-- we remember Mozart, Beethoven, Clapton, Hendrix, Page, not for their fills, arrpegios, or re-ocurring systematic patterns, but their simple unforgettable melodies (hooks) which ring in our head. I can't hum a Yngie melody, because they fade as soon as I turn the song off. When you hear his songs, they are impressive, but just not unforgettable in the sense of the masterpieces by the artists previously mentioned. Sometimes less is more.

  • @Flatted357 hendrix was a studio guy and horrible live (blame it on the drugs if you want)maybe why you can't remember anything more complecated than penetonic minor (clapton hendrix page)

  • @VIZZICKS Are you a guitar player?? Are you kidding? The only difference between Yngwie scales and Hendrix scales is Yngwie uses the perfect 7 instead of the flatted 7-- but Jimmy also used flatted 5th, perfect 2nd, flatted 2nd, etc, blues scales--chromatics, triads, etc., I like yngwie- he is the best of the shredders because he knows harmonic minor up and down the fretboard-- but its too much up and down the fretboard-- C/H/P used much more than minor penatonics - they used "DYNAMICS" -

  • @Flatted357 His name is Jimmi... not jimmy...

  • @tubaeli93 Hey, were both wrong-- its "JIMI" !

  • @Flatted357 been playin 20 plus years bro I just outgrew the blues rock thing a long time ago maybe in time you will to and hendrix did suck ass live couldn't even play his own shit well imo one of the most overrated guitarist in history next to cobain funny how ppl who talk the most therory understand the least lol or maybe you just need to put your les paul down (or strat) and listen with your heart and not your mind and tell me you can't hear black star in your mind even when it's not playin

  • @VIZZICKS - Dude, when I listen with my heart I listen to Keith Green, or any old Gospel music-- anyway, It does seem you are right on Jimi's live performances-- and I am learning black star at the moment, and it is quite challenging-- that means I really like the song-- I have to put in the top ten of all time I would think? My original point was that Yngwies stuff, (most of it) seems to lack a powerful melody presence, as he is too busy shredding? just my opinion.

  • @Flatted357 I love yngwies instruemental stuff but his song writing is lacking I'll give you that I pretty much grew up on classical then moved on to metal as a preteen so you can see why I love Malmsteen for me music is emotion and feeling and not all those feelings are pleasant I can't remember the name of it off the top of my head but a few years back he did a recording with a japanese symphony and I would have to say is his very best work but yeah jusy my opinion as well peace \m/

  • @VIZZICKS seriously? check out his Royal Albert Hall stuff on YouTube

  • Today Yngwie is only shade about what he used to be but he still rocks.

  • What song is he playing in the very beginning? That riff is really cool.

  • This was sick just compare this to the music they make today. This would have won a grammy or something better. This is why he got famous at the start. You cannot compare anybody to this guy. Hes the best composer there will ever be.

HE COMPOSED BLACK STAR WHEN HE WAS JUST 17.....The Whole song... Which is impossible to cover perfectly... So don't compare Hes always better.....

  • Yngwie, thank you...thank you so much for sharing. your amazing and a great teacher. thank you.

  • very nice guitar!!!!

    i love it this finish

  • very nice guitar!!!!

    i love it this finish

  • It is a great progression at the beginning, armazing.

  • dope

  • Wow what he played at first was just fucking amazing, almost cried listening to it.

  • 2.36....is that Polar Nights by Scorpions (Uli Jon Roth) ?

  • its bedroom eyes by malmsteen

  • his bend make me scare...

    xD

  • @SAYAORANGCACAD

he use .08 gauge strings, you can bend all you want on those thin shits.

i use 08 for the floyd and send those harmonics to hell.

  • ye i love to bend up 4semitones or 3tones its great up at the 21st with 8s.

  • did you see how his guitar s neck just change to rosewood just like that I would love to have a strat like that

  • his guitar has a scalloped fretboard.

  • it was a joke if you look very close he switches to a rosewood neck from a maple neck . I know its scalloped Ritchie Blackmore dose the same thing to his guitars

  • lol

  • I liked all these guitarists from the 80's but I hate the drums sounds there too computer sounding like his second songs he plays it sounds too computerized.

  • one of the greatest guitarists ever.if your going to make a tutorial video take your time and teach.don't use it as a format to show case your awesome talent only.

  • but its MALMSTEEN ©

  • As guitar lessons go, I didn't really learn much.

However, he sure can rock the guitar! =P

  • You can't. It's in A minor though if that helps.

  • @nickd3309

the song is: save our love.

  • @metalero19882 it's Bedroom Eyes

  • Where can I find a backing track with those chord progressions?

  • his shit is amazing. u only no if u cont like it that its nasty if ya dont play it. i was a skeptic then i learned arppegios from hell and i was like wow nevermind

  • What song is that solo from the begining of the vid from??? it is awesome. please respond so i can get the tabs

  • He's improvising a chord progression in Bm.

  • he hits that pickup-selector an awful lot.

  • Its for different tones and to make a stratocaster sound more smooth.

  • is it just me or do quite a few really famous rockers have the name lars?

  • name a few

  • Back in these days he was the best. Better than MaB or Lane. Presently he has gotten a little better, in the '90s he was totally lost.

  • Yeah I agree.

This is by far my favorite Yngwie performance.

Especially the bend he does @ 1:57 its so passionate and precise.

I really dig the shredding he does in this one cuz its soulful but has the Yngwie sound.

    Great Musician

    \m/

  • @PetriAL When comparing MAB and Yngwie, I always found it a bit queer to simply compare SPEEDS. I mean some of those 5 billion arpeggios are so fast (speaking of MAB) they tend to sound like electronic music or something. While that may be impressive, feeling and expressing something through music often doesn't overlap THAT well with speed. Compare Mr. Crowley/Crazy Train and Tribute to Randy. MAB has some nice little fills for the original solos, but the rest is kind of... over the top. /2 bits

  • @DanteGuitar For those with musically trained and talented ears it is both enjoyable and involving to cognitively decipher (listen to and understand) music at increasing speeds and levels of complexity.

Obviously for someone who is not so musically inclined, the faster the music gets I imagine the harder to understand and blurrier it seems, but since I am not one of these people I cannot attest to this statement.

But at least I don't make arbitrary inferences without requisite evidence.

  • @KyleStonehouse If only everyone thought as you, people wouldn't bash Yngwie so much. I only have a vague idea of the theory he's using, and it gives me headaches in increasing frequencies just spelling out some of the things he does. But I *am* making an effort to learn. You have to admit though -- sweet solo!

  • @DanteGuitar Theory is really only supplementary. I have studied theory at the college level and hated every second. I personally suspect that the same way we manipulate measured distances between wavelengths of sound to play music, our brain also manipulates measured wavelengths which we use to convey emotion, and that these wavelengths sometimes overlap.

But clearly I have no idea what I'm talking about, just a guess.

  • @KyleStonehouse Supplementary, but alas... the way it's done in college, you'd never think it's of any use. The fact is our brain does recognize emotion in music. Why is Dm the saddest of all keys? It's surely not because Spinal Tap said it was. We associate certain sounds to certain emotions; who knows if the sound of someone crying is the exact same relative wavelength to a 'sad' progression of chords? Or if it's a 3rd or 5th away from that, but harmonizes so well that we can barely tell?

  • @PetriAL He still is better than MAB. No offense to MAB, I have much respect for what he does, but he has a tendency to overplay too. Plus he's always had style. I saw some youtube vids of MAB giving masterclasses in shorts.

  • @PetriAL this video was made in the 90's

  • @PetriAL

better than shawn lane? you're in denial. that, or you are horribly musically inexperienced. shawn lane was far more technical, far more versatile, and far more melodic than malmsteen. his phrasing was superior, and his improv skills kill malmsteen's. now way no this planet, or any other planet is yngwie mlamsteen better than shawn lane.

  • @Fluffypopcicle at every point in space and in time is yngwie malmsteen better at guitar than shawn lane. Lanes phrasing is god awful. Far more versatile? He should try being good at one thing before being below average at other things. Better improv? lol listen to that solo above and get owned. definitely not more melodic. Lane is technical but more technical your havin a laugh.

  • @Schlaghammer

are you serious? haven't you ever heard epilogue for lisa? get you back? rules of the game? lets add up how many genres they play. yngwie = neo-classical and metal. shawn lane = jazz fusion, indian music, classical, the blues and some other stuff im probably forgetting. shawn lane's patterns and techniques are UNARGUABLY harder than yngwie's. yngwie can get extremely sterile too.

  • @Fluffypopcicle There is one word to some up most shawn lane songs i've heard. Yawn. he has some of the most boring phrasing i've ever heard. Its like more technical elevator music. Just listing a bunch of genres doesn't mean hes more versatile it just means he is a jack of all trades master of none. Shawn lanes patterns are not harder in fact epilogue for lisa probably is some of the easiest passages in the world. He has below average slow technique he rides the trem with like no hand vibrato.

  • @Schlaghammer

"below average slow techniques" since when the fuck was a maximum picking speed of 18 nps slow? "epilogue for lisa probably is some of the easiest passages in the world" no shit dumbass, it's a ballad. he is a MASTER of jazz, if you argue that you're musically retarded. look up "shawn lane how to develop an outside sound" and if you call that slow you need to kill yourself. also, shawn had arthritis. he was limited in certain aspects of the guitar.

  • @Fluffypopcicle LOL i didn't say he was slow, i said he had bad slow technique. Sure he is fast and technical but who isn't. His fast playing is robotic sounding. Which usually is a combination of bad phrasing and bad tone and shawn lane falls victim to both. He seems to play a lot of ballads and that fine but his slow technique is bad. He rides the trem the whole time leaving no room for good left had vibrato, stretching or slides. Also very boring phrasing.

  • @Schlaghammer

i did misread that, however yngwie can't play slow for shit, so you aren't one to talk. you have obviously only listened to his shred with the whole tone scale type of stuff. he does more than that. vibrato isn't required. also, good tone is a matter of opinion period. there are absolutely no exceptions to that rule. boring is also purely a matter of opinion. you bring no facts to the table, just shitty opinions.

  • @Fluffypopcicle Yngwie has the best slow guitar playing in the world. He has the perfect combination of technique, tone, and phrasing. Shawn lane could learn a lot from yngwie. Lane's Works are stagnant and lack character. Vibrato isn't required? Maybe for beginner guitar players who need to ride the whammy bar. Shawn lane is just another fast player that people troll yngwie malmsteen videos with. However we know that yngwie is the real god of guitar and shawn lane is just another pretender.

  • @Schlaghammer

name one other person who... wait a second, im not even trolling, im stating facts. he also does use vibrato, you're too stupid to notice. his phrasing with the whammy is flawless, so often times he doesn't vibrato and is better without it. "lack character" ha... didn't we just go over this? shawn lane a pretender... lol whatever. you're the type of person that nobody can come across to because you're such a fanboy/girl/both. im done arguing with you.

  • @Fluffypopcicle Your stating facts? More like opinions. Fanboy? Who wouldn't be a fan of yngwie, he is only the best guitarist ever. Sure lane can do a shitty vibrato occasionally and it is hard to notice considering he rides the whammy for like whole songs which is pretty lazy im not gonna lie. shawn lane is a pretender the people try to lump in with yngwie because he is fast but such a bad composer. Typical shawn lane nuthugger troll you are indeed.

  • @Schlaghammer

you are wither trolling or are musically retarded. either way, im done talking to you.

  • @Fluffypopcicle LOL. U said u done talking to me last time yet u responded again. Typical troll can't stop digging your own grave. You should learn what music is before start name calling pal.

  • @Schlaghammer

i was surprised by the stupidity of your comment so i decided to respond.

  • @Fluffypopcicle LOL so the troll is back again you just can't give it up. Shawn lane rides the whammy and his phrasing is terrible slow or fast. His vibrato is barely existent and not good.

  • @Fluffypopcicle Hey dude... I've never seen him use the whole tone scale.... It's a very dissonant sounding scale. For example the augmented chord (root- major- major) is derived from that scale... I've seen players like marty friedman use it (best metal guitarist ever :) my opinion) but yngwie... He is definately much more harmonic minor and natural minor (relative minor, aeolian mode. Whatever you want to call it...) Also, vibrato has been used by ever guitarist I can think of that is pro...
