That stang has zero rust, all the parts come out so easy, how about you bring it to michigan for a few months in the winter and try to work on it then :)
@wackos90 just an FYI ABS has NEVER decreased stopping distance at all, it clearly says so in every car manual there ever was, including your driver's license manual. it simply makes it so you can keep control and be able to stop AND swerve compared to non abs where you just skid into someone.
@boy638 Naw, calipers have a left and a right, rotors are the same though. Some brake pads even have an inner and an outer. My F150 front pads are the same but in the rear I have an inner and outer pad, and we have hub assemblies up front so the whole hub and rotor is one piece, the rear has a parking/emergency brake drum attatched to it. Pretty cool.
Great show as always but on the Pilot; Those thin metal clips that shim the pads to the bracket should be replaced. Also should clean out the area behind that. Any rust or dust will bind up the pads and result in un-even wear, premature wear, overheating, or cause the wheel to pull when the brakes are applied. These are a full floating caliper and should move freely.
I have a quick question. But first, I just wanted to say "Thanks" for a great and informative video. Your productions are very professional and easy to relate to. My question is: is there a need to check for lateral run out? Also, would the new pads need to be lubricated prior to installation? Thanks again for your great videos.
i have a a few questions, do the aftermarket brake kit actually come with Torque ratio? and what if the pads go bad on the caliper, replace the whole caliper? looks like its all in one lol, thanks
This isn't any new info to me but this is definatly a very good and informative video to have. I hate to say how many people would change a brake caliper and just think they could simply add more fluid.
I also recommend to clean and lube the caliper slides; you can buy a lube specifically for this. This is a very important step that is often overlooked. Uneven wear of the pads is mostly related to sticking pins/slides.
when ever you compress the piston its not good to let the fluid flow back up to the resivor because it can mess up the abs sensor with debris. always open bleeder screw .
@kickeraudio987 Good tip! Or put some rags around the reservoir. In all the vehicles we've done brakes on we've never had it overflow... it's such a minimal amount of fluid difference that it's hardly noticeable.
@alienboy366 They won't work with most stock wheels. This Mustang's wheels are 20" and there isn't much room so I don't think you can use anything smaller.
@mabolzichjjl Simply that it provides better stopping power. If you drive in harsher conditions or are adding performance upgrades to your ride you need to be able to stop and these will do it better.
@mabolzichjjl The larger the diameter of the rotor the more surface area you have so they cool faster. You don't need as much stopping power in the rear since they only do a small percentage of the braking.
Guys, keep in mind that drilled rotors can fracture and develop cracks in the metal. This isn't a problem for racing teams because they replace their brakes after each race. But a regular consumer doesn't, so it's much safer to go with the slotted rotors instead.
I've done a few of these myself...well, not so much upgrade, but I HAVE had to replace a broken brake line on my old '88 AE82 Nova.
I've been looking at upgrading the brakes on my current 1996 200SX. Interesting, though, that you went with DOT 3, rather than upgrading to DOT 5 with the brakes, since they'll produce a bit more heat, though I kind of understand that you're doing this educationally, and want people to use the stuff in the owner's manual.
Big brakes wont make you stop faster given any legal speed and hard braking.. Tires will. Big money brakes are for repeated high deceleration demands. Basically to avoid fade.
Woah Chris in'ts touching all that brake fluid with your bare hands hazardous? At least that's what I've heard, that it makes your skin itch and that you should always wear gloves when handling brake fluid..
@motorztv OHHH,i didnt watch the entire video so i didnt see the part with the Pilot,i didnt even watch the first minute cuz i already know how to fix brakes
@integraz32lover LOL no worries... but I hear ya, and we are working on bringing more imports on the show. Thanks for watching and please help spread the word about my show--Chris
Once a month is all we get out of you Chris? I so look forward to watching your vids on MotorzTV but they come about so slowly. Keep up the great work!
@BColemanEXD First, thanks for watching--I appreciate it. Second, keep in mind that when it comes to post-production I'm a one-man show. There's a lot that goes into a half hour TV show (it's not something I slap together quickly) so it takes 2-3 weeks to produce a new episode.
@BColemanEXD Also, this is a full half hour show in one upload/video. I could break it up into separate video segments (install segment, new products segment, letters segment, etc.) and spread them out over time but viewers have told me they like it all together in the long show format. What's your opinion?
@motorztv Thanks for the response Chris. I indeed prefer the long version of the shows. I also understand that you've got a full time job outside of Motorz and that you are a one-man band so to speak. What can we do, as your viewers, to promote Motorz to networks to get you a weekly spot on a major network? With so few modding shows on television these days, it would be great to add your show to that short weekly list.
@BColemanEXD The best thing to do is to try and track down a program director at the network and ask them specifically about Motorz. The more requests they get, the higher the chance they'll act on it. Most networks have feedback forms at their websites, but I suspect those emails will fall on deaf ears so I recommend calling. Thank you so much!
