  • My minister has used the ear thing to rupture peoples ears when they tried grabbing his shirt. He also was taught to knee in the groin more then once in case you missed.

  • i like this san soo looks very effective for self defense

  • @SKMYBAZZJACK you may be right in that a guy who trains in full contact mixed martial arts does have an upper hand in that he is used to getting roughed up on a daily basis. I encourage people to train in various arts to get an all around good base. I like san soo for the technical aspect of how to manipulate the body structure and generate power, think quick and understand avoiding getting stuck in a position before a confrontation begins.

  • @SKMYBAZZJACK the average joe you fight on the street isn't trained in mixed martial arts like a professional in the UFC. So you're 10 steps ahead of your normal attacker

  • just white belt moves...black is just assasin status

  • horrible audio and thts fake stuff my did kung foo sang soo

  • I think how people argue about martial arts is really interesting. I think it reveals a lot about a fighters tactics and training style.

  • LOL. Let me know when distance running is actually a part of a fight and ill be impressed. As far as san soo used in prison. That only tells me you have been raped by another man. LOL Not too good for you. I dont know hopkins personally but Im sure every san soo guy has bullshit war stories that they tell. My instructor had some too.

  • @djkristang

I have been watching your post as you have mentioned your many skills and criticized everyone else’s. It is obvious from your standpoint you think you are far superior to any "San Soo guy". So I wonder why you even bother watching these videos or respond to them? One thing you have convinced me of in your posts is that you consider yourself a great all around athlete but one thing you lack is character.

  • @mnl490

For that anything you might think you gain in your physical abilities you lose when you open your mouth and speak! What I would suggest to you is that you not pay attention to these videos that way we will not have to listen to you rant. There is an old proverb that says “it is better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and prove everyone right”!!!

  • @djkristang My minister was in special opps and in the cops he did use sansoo in police work it teaches you nerve holds and some pretty nasty stuff. Punching in the heart. The thing about hitting the ears works too they also teach you that in special forces. He learned chocks and such as well, and chopping to the throat. MMA isnt end all be all of the universe. It doesnt teach you how to defend against a knife or a gun.

  • I heard Dave Hopkins fought a bunch of bikers and won. Not sure how true it is.

  • san soo works just fine, used it in prison. Did a S.H.U. term for it.

  • i jog sub five min. miles... not bad for an out of shape san soo guy

  • square in the balls in a street fight with a snap kick and it did absolutely nothing. It was the following boxing strikes and wrestling take downs that were effective. Any san soo guy who thinks they know how to fight is more than welcome to come down to any MMA gym and train to see if their stuff would really work in a fight. For example I train at team quest in temecula. Im sure if you come down here and sign a waiver they will let you train.

  • @djkristang that challenge is invalid, as soon as anyone used san soo in your cage wed be asked to leave.

  • @djkristang no............... you obviously do not know martial lineage or for that matter mma rules as kapoof stated before me and that dude must have been on roids if he took a kick straight to the nuts....and san soo isnt to fight in a way its like neuatralizing or if absoulutley necessary kill someone in 5-4 seconds...

  • @djkristang you kicked a guy in the nuts and itt did nothing? Sound slike our lieing no offense. Even the armed forces train in this. They also use Filipino Martial arts but im sure you think its all crap right? BJJ is also great but its not all there is. Not everyone is the fitness to be in MMA use your brain.

  • but far more advanced in hand to hand combat than any one style kung foo san soo black belt. Especially since I am a San Soo Black belt. LOL And who practices taking shots in the balls? I have been in numerous street fights and scheduled fights, MMA and kickboxing and I have never been kicked in the balls. Second, I have taken many many eye pokes from fingers in grappling and MMA. Neither one has ever stopped me from fighting and finishing my opponent. On top of that I have kicked someone

  • see that it says I am a crossfit athlete and soon to be competitor. Im sure you have no clue what crossfit is because if your a "san soo" guy you are out of shape and couldnt last longer than 30 seconds in a real fight anyway. Furthermore, any fighter that puts his fights online is asking to get beat. Why would I expose my weakness or strengths to my possible opponents? Maybe if you were a fighter or had a real fighters mentality you would know that. I mean im no UFC level champion or even close

  • @Pstrician-Let me restate something to clear a few things up. I would love to fight another San Soo Black Belt because I would beat the shit out of them in less than 30 secons. The fight would end via submission, TKO, or KO. I was actually scheduled to fight a Kung Foo Black belt in 2009 but he backed out of the fight 3 days before. This was a Rage in the Cage event in Phoenix AZ. Another thing. I have been training since 1998, Fighting since 2007. If you were able to read correctly you could

  • @dkristang. Been training since 1998 and you are only still a "soon to be competitor"

How long does it take? You got any videos posted of yourself fighting in youtube? Post the links or put some on. Lets see all that 14+ years of skills. I Needed to be clear, are you threating to kill people over the internet? or are you jaw jacking?

  • djkristang. do you practice taking strikes to your tesiticles? or eys?

  • am a crossfit athlete and soon to be competitor.

  • To answer Streeteffective: I trained in San Soo from 98-2006 with Dan Castro. In 96 I began fighting and training in Muay Thai, Jiu Jitsu, Sambo, Judo, Boxing. I started with Erik Paulson in fullerton. Erik Paulson is the trainer of Broch Lesner, Josh Barrnett, and Cub Swanson. I have also trained with Joe Riggs, Edwine Deweese, and Rick Roufus at the Lions Den in AZ. Currently I am training with Dan Hendersons Team Quest in Temecula. On top of Training in Muay Thai, BJJ, Wrestling, and MMA I

  • oh and by the way im a black belt in san soo under Dan Castro.

  • In the fake san soo world you dont learn how to take a punch. In the real world of actual fighting you need to know how to take a punch. Guess what in a real fight you're going to get punched, probably a few times. Theres no enter the dragon choreographer to lay out how the fight should go. LOL San Soo? what a joke. I would love to fight a San Soo black belt. I would kill them in 30 seconds.

  • Furthermore, I can tell you dont know anything because you call people master. There is never a "master" in any martial art. There is always someone who knows more, who is better, faster, and stronger. Have you ever herd of a saying "practice how you play." If you train slow you fight slow. If your training and hurting yourself wearing protective gear your not at the level to be sparring in the first place. One of the major things in fighting is knowing how to take a punch.

  • @djkristang oh come on in doce pares they dont hurt each other i guess that makes it suck?

  • @djkristang if you go to the dog brothers they dont hurt you all the time either does that make them suck?

  • @MsAuska- I lack confidence in my ability? LOL I compete and fight everyday of my life. I have trained with some of the best fighters in the world. I have trained with Joe Riggs, Edwine Deweese, Erik Paulson, and Josh Barrnett (UFC heavyweight Champ 1994) just to name a few. My training if far more intense and "full contact" than anything you have ever even attempted in your life. Blood, Broken nose, bruises are all part of being a real fighter. Something I guarantee you know nothing about.

  • I hae a serious question.

Would one or two of the critics explain how this is "Bull Shit"?

Please answer where everyone can read. Also state your Art, your School, and your rank.

    Thanks.

  • @streeteffective That is what I want to know, @djkristang basically says it is "Bull" because he thinks it is not practical in street fighting. In my 2 comments below I try to tell him why his criticism is unjust.

  • @streeteffective As someone who studied San Soo, as well as many other styles, let's be real here... practicing in a studio is much different than an actual street fight. You may have a leg up vs someone without any training and/or fighting experience, but studio work is no guarantee of effectiveness in a real fight... especially with the rise of MMA.

  • That said, I prefer San Soo over any of the other styles that I've encountered. The reason being that the way it is practiced, teaches critical thinking and attention to detail.

Unfortunately, martial arts has evolved and San Soo hasn't afaik. I believe that any martial art needs to be well-rounded these days, which is why I study/studied various styles TBPH.

  • And @Cleve101- MMA is the end all system of fighting. Thats why its called MIXED MARTIAL ARTS. It's a mixture of all martial arts because there is no one art that defeats all. Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai, Wrestling, Judo, Sambo, Boxing, and Vale Tudo are all arts that are more practical and street/ring proven better than san soo. San Soo is not a good art and it is a waste of money. Why pay 100/month for an art that doesn't work when you can pay 150 for 3 arts that all work.

  • @djkristang You lack confidence in your ability and what you have learned that is why it does not matter what martial art you learn you will always fail. Of coarse opponents do not throw one slow punch at a time, but if you learned anything from your master you would know you need to be flexible and adapt to the fight, not follow step by step instructions like in the dojo. "I am not afraid of fighter who knows 1000 kicks but I am afraid of a man who has practicd one kick 1000 times" - Brush lee

  • I agree with Revelation21st totally. I trained in San Soo for 8 years and never learned one thing that ever worked in a real fight. The biggest down fall to san soo is you cant actually try your techniques in real time. Its nothing but a theory. This art is used for people to defend themselves against the "Drunk man haymakers" I have never been in any street fight, MMA Fight or any other fight that my opponent has only thrown one punch at a time. Not practical!

  • @djkristang Also the slow "haymakers" they do in the dojo is for instruction purposes. If you knew nothing or you were still inexperienced and I kept breaking your ribs and jaw (even when wearing protective gear) you would learn more about medicine than martial arts because you would be in the hospital a majority of the time. If you want the difficulty of your training to increase just ask your master.

  • It can work. If the guy is tough and has heart it can work. Dave Carter was Jimmy's toughest student. Every top San Soo Master knows of him. He was a former Golden Gloves champ who mixed in San Soo and made it work.

  • holy crap kung fu w japanese quimonos!

  • @Revelation21st I love how people just assume they know who I am with an ignorant comment and make themselves look like an idiot... It's just my opinion of this video, my opinion in detail is that this style is only for street defense '' fighting guys that don't anything except swinging hay makers '' It's just street defense.

  • I think anyone can see the bullsh** in this video lol

  • Why do you ask stupid questions

  • why does this kung fu school use a belt system? why does this kung fu school use a japanese uniform? this looks like a BS/bootleg style. just my thoughts

  • when one has to totally f__k up the opponent, any path will do, as long as its effective and deadly....

  • every system claims to be end all be all.

  • In THIS lesson you are going inside. I would like to believe there are lessons where you would not always go inside. Do you know of Chuck Cory ?

  • @gtiprod most of the black belt lessons go outside, because at that point you don't even block. you just totally go around the punch and do damage from behind or the outside.

  • this is the master of my master, how cool =D

  • 5:33 No ones gonna stand in front of you like the carl's jr. star like that while you wind up. Everything else is OK.

  • fair enough china and thanks for your reply. i dont generally talk about what may be good or bad unless it brings about a productive end, because generally its all opinion untill it is proven to work. but just for the fun of it i would like to take you up on it. discussion is good even if there is disagreements

  • I think the exact translation of San Soo Kung Fu is dirty ass street fighting

  • My favorite defensive technique is to drop a grenade down their pants and run.

On a more serious note, I wonder if 50 is too old to start training in martial arts?

  • i dont think 50 is too old. there was one guy that started in a san soo school when he was alot older and maybe someone here could resite his exact age, i think he started when he was arround 70 or 80 years old and continued until he recieved his black belt. if you are sreious, it will work and in the mean time geat you in shape. no matter what fittness level you are.

  • hahaha mike!! hes so cool. good job dave!!

  • i train with him hes good

  • nah, he's mad cool :D

the ppl that go there a lot are wack tho.

    but hopkins is cool.

most of teh san soo sifu are super chill

  • For all those post rude messages... take the advice "if you don't have anything nice (or constructive) to say, don't say anything at all" It is a real pain in the ars to have to sift through all this self serving bs written by prideful know it alls. I am a sifu a new one but sifu still. If my Master, Ron Teeters, found out that I wrote some of the things that the aforementioned have posted, chances are I would get a severe arschewing at least and maybe even kicked out of my school.

  • I am from another style but I have met Dave and his Friend George. (also a few of his students) Dave is a guy who has all the pieces. He is athletic, well trained, in good physical shape, intelligent, he can do it AND teach it. Not to mention; he can run a business. Having all that in one package is rare in martial arts. And let's not forget he is passionate and enthusiastic. I always say, if you have any real balls go exchange with a guy and see who is better.

  • Your mother sucks... to bad she didn't swallow.. Now piss off you troll..

  • wtf are you talking about?

  • I'm talking about your mother! And how she could have saved the internet a lot of agony by just swallowing.... But nooooooo, she had to go and give birth to you.. Now we all must pay for her mistakes...

Understand? Or should I elaborate further for the mentally challenged?

  • you can read me back my comment that you replied to, cause i can't read it. So I don't know what your arrogant ass is talking about you fool.

read me back the comment that has -6 thumbs down. It was most likely my friend that wrote that comment cause he got trained by the guy in the video.

  • "san soo sucks stay away from all san soo schools"

Next time you let your dickhead friend touch your pc, slap him in the face and tell him not to make such asinine comments.

  • san soo is the oldest and most lethal kung fu martial art. wait... your just quoting someone. ok...

    san soo rocks!

  • i was curious to find out what rank and what instructor china san soo had. but as i read all the comments, i realized that this is a good san soo discussion board but with each member having their own views. now i would like to know everyones rank and under what instructor each of you have or have now. but only for those who want to. it would seem that there has to be some kind of conectivity or conguency; idealy both.

  • nice defens

  • All this babble about "block & counter" "weak blocking" etc...etc...?

If you get caught on the inside of a circular hooking type movement; one way is to block and counter. ALL arts have this. I've seen and felt this guy in action and his friends and students--he is not messing around.

  • I love watching this art practiced!!!

    These guys are great!!

  • ahhh i dare u to use those moves on ur grandpa and ma haha

  • Did anyone watch part 2? He says move out of the way(csc) and (unspecified block[ruby]) blocks on a 90 @ the wrist. know your material before you comment (I'm Guilty, too)

  • um...Diver-city, much. Bad for the art(@ any rank). I've never met Dave and was never privleged enough to meet Jimmy. But, Dave did say this is a begining dvd (we all know you can't 'truly' learn from a dvd...Right?) and never specified where the block goes. Better to block 'wrong' than stand there and get hit

  • This is only my opinion but I don't think San Soo was meant to be a block and counter form of fighting. The lesson should start with the double strike. Dave is a fantastic instructor and every one can learn from his San Soo.

  • This is only my opinion but I don't think San Soo was meant to be a block and counter form of fighting. The lesson should start with the double strike. Dave is a fantastic instructor and every one can learn from his San Soo.

  • kungfurhino1966,Eric told me a diifferent story,he said,he asked Dave about blocking and Dave didn't want to talk about it!He gain nothing going to his class.I told Eric, what do you expect, its not practical or economical for Dave or any instructor to have a person come into their studio and tell his students that their is a better way of blocking, leverages, ect ect..The good thing is from the emails I have received their are people looking to improve in their san soo using angles, positioning.

  • rudybellicose, How convenient the internet is, you can't get together with Dave to tell him, his blocking is weak!! What you need to do is strap on your gi that maybe is only been worn for 6 mo. if that, and come in to our studio for some intellegent converstaion. "Portugal I was just joking" what are you 12 years old?? I could give a shit where you go vacation!!!!

  • rlc, one of the concepts of the internet is when people can't get together they can still discuss ideas, but one problem both parties have to be smart or you have what we have here!So go on with your name calling, You demonstrated you can't discuss intelligently, stay with your kung fu, because it fits your brain activity anything else, will be to complex for you to understand, as Jimmy would say,"When dealing with a dumb person smile and walk away and don't deal with that person again!"

  • rlc, thank you again, I now have an example, what jimmy would say,"The smart ones will get it and the dumb ones won't". Now I can tell people where to go to get an example of that!Be proud of yourself because now you are part of history, something that been pasted down from generation to generation.I was joking about Portugal, but you are to stupid to realize that ,but If I came to your studio I will do some heavy suffering from seeing all that bad kung fu!

  • rudy Yes i do know what happened eric came and worked out with the blackbelt class and said he learned quite a bit from the experince. so why don't you stop talking about dave and come in show us how great your blocks and san soo is its easy to talk on line and hard to do it in person

  • rudybellicose, Hell you don't have to go to Portugal to do some suffering, just come to our studio...you'll do plenty of suffering there. "when I get a vacation" please. Its obvious you like to throw rocks and hide behind the wall of the web. I would like to see you do this EXACT technique using your blocking method (90degree angle at the wrist) and put it youtube for eveerone to scrutinize. Till then your just a sackless coward.

  • Rlc,thank you when I do get a vaction,I will consider your offer!and I only fly first class! When I do take a vaction I go to Portugal to go suffering! Did you try the blocking method I suggested? yes or no! Also, someone name Eric was on J.P. web site and he was talking about a blocking method; Dave being Dave gets on the web site Says come on down to his studio and he will show Eric how to block. What happen? Do you know what happen? Eric please email me so I will know the true story.

  • rudy Yes ido know what happened eric came and worked out with the blackbelt class and said he learned quite a bit from the experince. so why don't you stop talking about dave and come in show us how great your blocks and san soo is its easy to talk on line and hard to do it in person

  • rudybellicose, ok, I will pay for your ticket, so here it is, you either put up or shut up. Can you handle that!!! or are you just talking SMACK?? I WILL PAY FOR YOUR TICKET. My guess is that, for some bullshit reason you can't make it.

  • rlinecabints, are you going to pay for my plane ticket? and did you try the blocking method I suggested, the method that Jimmmy used, or are just talking smack and wasting my time!Go on and block the way you do and get hit in the face!I don't care! What I care about people like Dave giving san soo a bad name! Claiming he took kung fu from Jimmy and teaching his way! The good thing is from some of the thoughts on youtube some people seem to know the good from the bad!

  • Rudybellicose: you claim Dave's blocking is weak!! is this how you converse intelligently? so my point is this, don't backpedal, come in and tell him he doesn't know how to block a punch!!!!!!!!

  • rlinecabinets,I got the biggest of them all!but that is another story, I'm here to discuss about san soo intelligently, can you handle the truth! Also, what is your point! Did you try the method of blocking, I suggested?

  • He claims he took kung fu from Jimmy, sometimes he came into the studio and workout and everybody told him their is a better way of blocking, He did stop working out I wonder why?

  • rudybellicose: grow a pair and come into our studio and tell Dave he doesn't know how to block a punch. Ya just what I thought I hear crickets!!!!!!!!!!!

  • My GOd!...If it's Kung fu....what's with the karate outfit...and if it......Never mind...I'll go training instead..

  • that's because the man who brought it from China used karate outfits because it was cheaper for his school. now it's just kindoff a tradition thing to have it i guess.

  • csc is dave blocking the punch yes or no

  • 1. Dave blocks at a 45 degree at the bicep if you throw the punch right you will not be able to block the punch! Do the same move, but block at a 90 degree.I.E have somebody put his arm out and hold it tight try to move it at the bicep then try it at the wrist.

  • just a note and an observation you seem to be right about the block itself. but if i'm not mistaken, the use of both, the 45 degree angle at the bicep and the 90 degree at the forearm, is used for different purposes. the "45" is intended to disrupt the muscle of the striking arm and throw the attacker of ballance. the "90" is designed to bring immediate pain and or missdirect the punch. no dissrespect, but at the time of this posting, where you in san soo and if so, a yellow belt. just currious.

  • weak!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • how so?
