  • stock 300ZX has 300bhp. Lets get away from the notion that either of these cars are race cars, I own a 92 300zxTT, and ran 11.9 @114mph with stock turbos, block and heads, a full interior (over 4000lbs total weight). most likely the Z in this vid is a frankenstein with a few mods, and the only reason the guys interior looks like it does is because he wanted a RHD, "fully built" Z's are capable of well over 1000 HP, this Z is no full race car. all that being said, im not surprised, 300zx FTW.

This guy is probably sitting real close to the 2700lb range or even lighter... Mild port work and a higher octane tune to get around 350hp or even 360hp.... cobra would lose... Not being a D-bag.... but the minute you saw that aluminum interior something should have told you the cobra would lose.

Im just saying, it is impressive that a car with such low base power can hang with a 380hp stock cobra (it probably had some mods too) And out of curiousity do you know this guy or something? or just making guesses?

  • Idk if you guys have ever been to a real drag strip, but that is basically what MOST of the cars look like on the interior...Im not sure why you guys are bitching. Its a v6 vs. im sure a suped up cobra. Cobra would smoke it stock anyways, but just for the simple fact that it is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to find parts for the Z, I give it props for taking a suped Cobra.

    This may be a dedicated race car but as you saw it only ran a 12.6. I have a 3000zx tt daily driver and it can probably run a 12.6. It has over 400rwhp i just haven't had time to get it to the track since i bought it. Idk if you know anything about 300zx's but its not hard to get well over 400hp at the wheels. I am still running stock turbos and can do that with not much money. Honestly i've spent more on the upkeep of the car than the mods.

  • well this is fair in a way idk if the 300zx is twin turbo or single turbo but all the cobras are supercharged so this video is a good comparison and besides the 300zx was probably a NA before and just did a turbo swap so yea i think its a good drag overall like cobras but i prefer Zs/ take that mustang out on any winding curved track and watch the Z excel at what Japanese cars always have handling and weight :)

  • @trered4lyfe japanese cars dont always have handling and weight. Supras weigh along the same lines as loaded camaros or firebirds. the vr4 weighs more than an 03 cobra. Just like some domestics weigh more than imports....real imports not pos civics and integras and what not. Plus American cars are handling better anyways considering most Road Course racing today is mostly American vs European.

  • dont get me wrong, i love the 300zx tt's but it only ran a 12.60, and beat that cobra by only a car to two cars. that cobra probably had minor modifications like exhaust and tune, and maybe, just maybe a different pulley but probably not even that. Calm down people, must every racing video be of the battle of haters vs haters with a few good comments in between. They are both badass cars and deserve respect.

  • The Cobra did pretty good at the start. Any idea what year it was? Earlier models in that body style didn't have a supercharger so they had 320hp. Nice Z, always was a fan of Nissan.

  • I have a 93TT 300zx and a 03 cobra and my 300zx is much faster. I like both cars, because they look nice. Stock vs stock, my Z is faster. I have a few bolt ons for both cars and the 300z still has the edge. After upgrading the turbos, exhaust, injectors on my TTZ, it's a beast. The mustang is my DD. Both cars are fun to drive

  • For everyone saying that its a street driven cobra and a gutted Z31 (that's right, a Z31, a 25 year old single turbo, rated at 205 hp to the crank) think about it. you can get a clean turbo Z31 for $2000 (US), ive bought one that just needed a tune up for $500. A clean cobra, over $15000, at the low end. You put that extra 13-14k into a 25 year old Z31, and it will walk cobras all day long. Its not what they come with stock when its a car made from 84-89, its what you can do for half the price.

You can run 11's for 1k, but not safely. You can run mid to low 11's easily, and consistently (assuming you can launch well) for 2k. that brings you to $2500 total. Some of us like the Z31's, and some of us like mustangs, that's a opinion and i wont get into that. What im saying is that its a car that might have a car that beats a

  • @Texarmageddon the car, 500. Holset HX35, 300-400 used, Nistune, 500, 420 CC injectors from a 5.0 ford, 25 each (total of $150). The guy who did it in $1100 used nitrous, but im staying away from that because he didn't do it for reliability. That puts it at a total of 1550 assuming you dont get a good deal on the holset, theres one local here going for 250 cash. That, if you can tune youself, is good for 370+ HP to the wheels, well over 400 ftlbs with these engines. Remember, that car is gutted.

I guess it is understandable. Yet, one question. You stated the question what do you think that mustang makes? I'm not sure what you are implying, but an 87 stang Hatch came in at 3,144.. I'd imagine the same weight or lower for it.

And yeah, odds are against you, but i just picked up a '87 300ZX for 500. Didn't run, but the only things ive bought where all new fluids (even stuff that didn't need to be changed, like tranny and diff fluid), plugs, wires, ect. Besides that it was just pulling it apart and putting it together right. And i meant weighs, not makes in that last one.

What do you think that mustang makes? and for maybe, MAYBE $100 dmore, get a used HX40 if you need it, then another 250 for a MSD 6AL and launch control, thats 11's easily. Im not pricing in clicks, because you need them in either car for a good launch. I didnt price in a FMIC or a gutted intake, the front mount necessary and the intake helps, because my $500 car came with them. But i even counted the car in the cost.

  • @Rhoads0382 Just looked it up, and a 2005 GT comes in at at curb weight of 3450. I dont know what year cobra this is, or is theirs a weight difference from GT to cobra, but that could be a 600 pound difference in the cars.

  • @CJDUBstang The person who posted the video also said it ran a 12.6, which as you said is where a stock cobra runs. To be honest, the parts i listed are overkill for a 12.6 run. All you need is an intercooler, raise the boost to 13psi (stock turbo becomes inefficient shortly after this point, creates too much heat for the power benefits) and yes, ill say it, a 100 shot of nitrous done the right way. That's a small shot for any decent motor, properly jetted and with the right amount of fuel added

  • @CJDUBstang nitrous is extremely safe. Technically, it does the same thing as raising boost. More oxygen (and added fuel) forced into cylinders for more power. You would also need a higher capacity fuel pump at this point, to supply fuel to both the injectors, along with the fuel sent to the fogger in the nitrous system. If you say that this cant be done for less than even a THIRD the price of a Cobra, i sincerely hope that you do not teach your children one thing about automotive performance.

  • @CJDUBstang cobra, even if it is stock. That's a 2500 dollar car beating a 15-17k dollar car. On top of that, its perfectly able to drive the car on the street. You dont need air conditioning to have a street car, and you dont need to gut the whole interior to run 11's. On top of that, insurance is affordable and you don't want to cry if you happen to hit a wall. Id rather spend $2500 than $15k any day. I don't where i said a 17-19k dollar Z31. unless your paid to do it, that would be retarded.

  • I wouldn't brag for the Z or whatever the hell the race car is. It barely beat a fully functional street car, that will cruise home with the radio jammin' and the AC on. The cobra will probably be home by the time they get the gutted out drag car loaded on the trailer.

  • I think this is a z31 because of the mirrors (i own 2 Z31s) and the fact that it has a hard time connecting in 1st and 2nd gear, the suspension was setup for showing off for z31 so it would look good taking off but it hurts in take ofs.

  • The ZR1 is so fucken sexy. It looks good and it's fast. Both Japan and the US makes great RWD sports cars. Their are 350Z drag cars doing mid 6 second quarter mile runs and their are rotary and RWD 4 bangers drag cars doing mid 6 second runs. The Japanese are famous for pulling rabbits out of their hats.

  • Stock Z32 TT can beat a stock cobra. I know because I own three Z32s, and a 95 Supra. These cars eat horse meat and snake meat all day all night long. Sorry but just because a car has more HP doesn't mean you'll win. It takes total balance. The shape of the Z32 helps it cut the wind better than the stang and the 350Z.
