@jameala I think he sings fine! He sounds a little wavering at times, but he's supposed to be in his sixties, so it works. As for the staging...yeah, he probably can't dance like that. But that's what you do as a director...you play to your actors' strengths. When I did the show, my Danny didn't have a "counterpart;" granted, he was just 26, but in his makeup he looked a LOT older. And in the finale he shocked everybody by landing in a perfect split in roller skates. XD
@RobHays1971 Not really, I bet. He must have known that Xanadu was one of the worst movies ever produced. The broadway version, however, is absolutely amazing. It's not meant to be like the movie, it's meant to be a complete parody of one of the world's most cheesy movies.
i've just seen the successful musical this sept in the philippines. will have a rerun this nov to december 2010. They provided mini neon lights for the onstage audience.
@loveya718 Everything I've seen from the Broadway production is truly awful. They took what few things from the movie worked and destroyed them as well. YUCK!
He's Sonny's older business partner, Danny. The idea (at least in the movie) is that Danny was visited by a similar muse when he was younger, and he's reminiscing about her.
Danny is Sonny's alter ego from the swing years. In this scene Danny is remembering back when Kira was his own muse. In the ONJ movie this scene is a huge production number shot in a large sound stage with them both in military uniforms. Danny wants to also open up a venue but gets into a small argument over swing versus rock music. This scene is much shorter than the movie version.
sucks

I wonder if they staged that with "the young Danny McGuire" because Tony Roberts can't dance? God knows he can't sing!

The musical is a satire/parody of the movie--a hilarious one too.

I've just discovered this musical here on youtube and I don't know the movie either. So who is this older guy? Is that Sunny's older self?!

Thanks. I was also assuming it might be Zeus in disguise, since it seems to be the same actor.

good guess, but it's just double casting. (they make a joke about it later in the show)
