Man, your vids are truly the BEST. Do you think you could make a tribute to Baryonyx, a tribute to Deltadromeus, and a tribute to Triceratops? Thanks.
Yes. The dome was actually covered in keratin and formed a tall horn, which was used for species recognition. The animals also used them to hit each others' flanks, in mating battles and such.
Maybe, but if it formed a horn we would expect the bone itself to be pointed. My bets on it was a dome used for head/ flank butting, similar to mux oxen and bison. There were horns on the side I think were used as species identification and display
The thing is, all modern head-butting animals have large open holes in the front of the skull to help cope with the shock. Pachies had none.
The vascularized, spongy tissue in the head, neck and spine that has long been believed to give strength to the skeleton for head-butting was actually present in juveniles, but not adults. Additionally, the dome carried blood vessels and collagen fibres which suggest that the dome had a keratin ornament on top that would not fossilize with the animal.
This horn ornament would be used for sexual display and species recognition, but not fighting. If they tried to ram each other on the flanks, they would end up breaking their ribs.
I like heavy metal, but I hate death metal xD That's strange I know, but he's got right, you should use somethin' really bad for such a badass dinosaur... Something like...Ozzy Osbourne - I don't wanna stop? Well, you're choise, just a tipp
@Kingcobrasaurus it may have had blood vessels but the thick headed dinosaurs didn't have any problem with that

Sad some drungos are trying to say they couldn't use there head like a battering ram
Tarbtano 2 years ago
They didn't. If they did, blood would spatter everywhere (The dome had blood vessels in it.)
Kingcobrasaurus 2 years ago
All bone has blood vessela in it. Horns have blood vessal very close to the surface. The dome would have a keritan covering, making it much stronger

In a nutshell, the dome wasn't a weapon.
