One of the best renditions is the one written for an played @ the wedding of Prince Charles and Princess Diana.  I'm always fascinated by how HM must stand there while all eyes are on her. We usually just face our flag. It's a nice flag. But it's always wearing the same "clothes", a pretty combination of red, white & blue.

when you see all those folks mouthing the words to the second verse, which they apparently don't know, and jumping up and down for the camera, it hardly shows much respect for HM of the anthem. sort of like those American sports nitwits who can't wait for The Star Spangled Banner to finish before they start yelling or who don't even have the courtesy to remove their hats. No class anymore.

@kanenkitten : lol. I reiterate that I expect that not many folks - including HM's subjects - even know the anthem has more than one verse. No. 2 is definitely out. I doubt she has all that many enemies anyway except at Court and inside the House of Windsor. I think actually the un-PC verse is no. 2 and "Thy choicest gifts ... " is actually no. 4 and there some even more obscure verse in between. I've always like God Save the Queen and the Lady it's sung to. Thanks. Peace!

@celluloidjunkie83 Are you kidding? I'm from the USA and I love your anthem. I love mine too but for some reason this one always makes me cry. Something about the melody. You have a great anthem. Don't despair!! They taught us this as kids as "my country tis of thee' and I loved the melody back then. Only found out as I got older that it was your Anthem. If I were a performer from your country I'd never get through it. As to the words, at least people can learn them unlike our Anthem. So hard!

If you consider it from a sporting perspective, it's hardly inspirational. When we play (insert sport) against some other countries and you hear Land of our Fathers or Flower of Scotland, ours just sounds like a dirge. I suppose it's in keeping with the 'stiff upper lip' but it's just a shame that it's so sombre. Add to that the fact that a (very) large portion of the country doesn't even support the monarchy (an amount that grows each year) and I think it's time for a change!

Why do our 200+ year old buildings need reconstruction? Well because all buildings need maintaining. The first part is the same as the version in the "Hymn Book". But listen to the second part! Those chords! It transforms what is a fairly dull rendering into an amazing piece of music. This is the "Henry Wood" arrangement, and as I understand it can ONLY be played for the Last Night of the Proms at the Royal Albert Hall. Or so I have been told by every other orchestra I have asked to play it.

One of my favorite national anthems of the world, along with "La Marseillaise", "The Hymn of the Russian Federation", "Advance Australia Fair", "O Canada" and "The Star-Spangled Banner". Excellent!
