  • This always makes me think of "The Book Thief" especially when i think of the UK cover where Death and Leisel seem to be dancing together.

  • @henrybat Actually, when Saint-Saëns wrote "Fossils", he did indeed incorporate parts of "Danse Macabre" into it, as well as parts of "Partent pour la Syrie" by Hortense de Beauharnais and "Una Voce Poco" from The Barber of Seville by Gioachino Rossini. He also included themes from 3 different nursery rhymes, "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star", "Au Clair de la Lune", and a lesser-known nursery rhyme called "J'ai du Bon Tabac".

  • es maravilloso, lloro ,rio, extraño,sueño VIAJO A OTRO MUNDO,estimula mi imaginacion y me llena de tranquilidad a la vez que enloquezco

  • Wow, this really ressembles Saint-Saëns's "fossils" theme from the carnival of animals, in some sections at least, like 0:55 to 1:25!

  • Yea....it's not brutal.

  • @koga9376 Exactly.

  • Probably one of the most dark and brutal pieces in classical music, Were Saint Saens alive today he would probably be known as a Death Metal genius.

If you like this, try his "Fossils" from the "Carnival of Animals". Equally brutal.

  • @StreetGerbil Still, the feel of this song brings you much closer to death and darkness than death metal itself, while feeling epic at the same time

  • @HardcoreNewbz0r

Metal derives itself from this principle, listen to a band like septic flesh and you'll know what I am talking about. Shapeshifter is probably a good example of a good symphonic metal macabre atmosphere.

  • @AtheistMonster shapeshifter from faceless ?

  • @gtrooper1

Septic Flesh, like many of their good symphonic works. One that I might recommend more than that is the song "Pyramid God", which includes a full orchestra.

  • jonathan creek

  • so beautiful, i love this ^^

  • i like this a LOT! does anyone recommend something else to me which i might like too?

i never seem to be able to find these things myself.

  • @boomer1414vids - Take a look at Beethoven's Symphony No.7 in A major, Op.9. Of course, if you like this, you'll like anything Saint-Saëns.

  • @aaron8862006 ok, thanks a lot! i will certainly listen to that.

  • @boomer1414vids Carnival of the Animals by the same composer.

  • @boomer1414vids If you like this kind of music, you can look at my playlist "Classical Music And Opera Playlist." So far, I´ve collected over a hundred and thirty compositions.

  • @highschoolpuppettier ok, thanks!

  • Attention youtube comments reader:

    This song is awesome.

  • this is directly linked to a dance supposedly held in england in old town between the dead and the living and is held every year as a masquarade ball. its not organized or anything. sorta like a classical flash mob

  • 101 dalmations game on ps1 :D

  • @Cardien18 yesss!

  • Almost as creepy as Lavender Town :P

  • The best piece. EVER

  • gay or not, who effin cares, good music is what matters.

  • Gay or not gay... this is great :D

  • so much gayness

  • everyone is gay but me

  • 2 people down are gays

  • 8,292 people are gay.

  • 71 people are gay

  • id take the deal ......crossface and drill the devil in the ass, how bout you johnny? ive already done it

  • @netime469 one of my favorite lines from that movie

  • The weird figure from Tool !!

  • This is a beautiful piece of music :)

  • Is it the intensity of the song that is causing everyone to argue? Geez.

  • USA has Philip Glass . . . nuff said

  • @vaspopovski LOL

  • Una sola parola.Bellissima.

  • is a bit maddening.... but I love it! :D

  • perfect <3

  • this is basically my 2nd favorite classical piece of all time, but whichever orchestra played this was pretty terrible

  • @vgneus How so? (I'm going to play this for concert soon)

  • @MarcelloTheCello two things really

    1. notice how the different sections aren't together in the middle when the winds and strings playing the motif

    2. this is less significant but the soloist's volume changes without any reason and not with the song

  • @situa1000 The U.S. has had great composers. Maybe not as many as other countries, because the U.S. is a relatively new country. It's had Sousa, Gershwin, Bernstein, and many others.

  • @shadow3191 Agreed. Compared to other countries that have been around for thousands of years, America has only had a bit over 200 years. About 400 if you count before the declaration of independence. But the pilgrims were barely surviving winter. I doubt they had time to compose classical music. There are many great composers in the USA and saying we are a piece of shit country because of this is hardly fair.

  • how comes usa has no great composers ? darn that country is really a piece of sh1t

  • @situa1000 fuck you, america has john williams and danny elfman

  • @demonhunter5520 lol John Williams is terrible. He's basically just trying to copy Bernard Hermann, only he does it poorly.

  • Loved this

  • parfaite cette musique!

  • I loved this piece as a child, and I will always love it until I die and dance with the devil on halloween night :3

  • Незнайка на Луне.

  • I painted my room black to this.... it was very intoxicating.

  • @koechiaki777 whoa sounds awesome :D totally fitting aswell

  • @xXSisenXx thank you. it really was. :)

  • This was in Hugo, during the library scene, lovely piece.

  • This reminds me of Tim Burton films. <3

  • @opaldreamsofpeace You... have a very small mind.

  • @feloniousbutterfly How does saying that show that he/she has a small mind? I think someone is a hypocrite.

  • @feloniousbutterfly Hey now, what's with the negativity? I'm not a fan of Tim Burton either, but that doesn't mean anyone who is has a "small mind." In my opinion, someone who judges another based on one of their interests alone has a small mind. Small and bitter.

  • @feloniousbutterfly

I beg your pardon? Who are you to say that I have a small mind? Would I have a bigger mind if I said something such as "this piece is so moving. It touches my very core with a mix of icy warmth." Is that better?

  • @opaldreamsofpeace Yeah, a bit. Tim burton isn't that great, and I think this is a lot more amazing than anything Tim Burton has made. Our opinions may differ, but if that's all you can think about when you listen to something like this, I feel bad for you.

  • @feloniousbutterfly

So because my comment didn't go into depth about how this is amazing, and how my favorite director isn't Tim Burton, and how this is one of the best things anyone has ever written then that must mean I have a small mind. The bottom line is, it's not your place to tell me whether or not my mind is small. It's rather small minded and rude of you to say that. It is also not your place to feel bad for me, since you don't know me whatsoever.

  • @opaldreamsofpeace It reminds me of Tim Burton too. :3

  • listening to this while playing left 4 dead is amazing

  • @HuginnG I should try this :3

  • Tombstone. <3

  • ^^ Jonathan Creek theme tune <3

  • Though back then tritone was banned by the Catholic Church..

  • @Ankyjuk2 His mother reputedly fainted during the first performance of Danse Macabre for this very reason XD

  • @Greeblimus Did she like it anyway?

  • @Ankyjuk2 Well, originally the Catholic Church banned everything but Perfect 4ths & 5ths. Then they let in other intervals, like the Major 3rd. The tritone stayed banned for a while, but by the time Saint-Saëns was around, the Renaissance & Reformation had taken away the Church's power over these things.

You also need to remember that Stravinsky's Rite of Spring, which was shocking when premiered, was not long after this piece. By the 1800s, braking the rules was not an aberration.

  • @TheKcatty There was no "ban". There was a limited understanding of polyphony, which evolved with time. It's as absurd as to say Mozart was banned from using atonality.

Feel free to substantiate your claims with the specific decrees where the aforementionned intervals were "banned", but I'm certain you cannot, because they simply have never existed.

  • Reminds me of a good friend ;-)

  • one of the darkest pieces of music ever written. you can feel the emotion, the mystique, playing in the music. A french version of Night on Bald Mountain

  • where is te saax?

  • so bruuutal /m\

  • Someone DESPERATELY needs to make a techno/dubstep remix of this. That'd be so legit.

  • @1234t5gfds That would just be stupid.

  • @1234t5gfds Wtf? No that would be fucking retarded.

  • @LeGenerall Really? Because I fail to see how that would be mentally ill. Please use a different term. Also, just imagine the drop. It would be legit.

  • @1234t5gfds Don't listen to them man, I've been looking for a remix forever!

You can love classical and deb at the same time. *living proof* I played violin, clarinet, oboe and sax for 10 years, classical and jazz. I love classical music, I just happen to also love moshing to it!

  • @MorphineAnecdote I'm not listening to them. Everyone has their own taste in music. I respect their opinion that classical music should not be tampered with. I disagree, I think that there can be really amazing remixes of classical remixes, if the right person did it. Like Deadmau5, or DJ Geezey.

  • @1234t5gfds Agreed agreed =^.^=

  • @1234t5gfds Look up D2 from technika 2 :D

  • I heard this song for the first time on Kuroshitsuji an fell in love with it. Danse Macabre is a gorgeous song, and how the instruments represent such a dark scene is incredible. Love it. -3

  • Why would someone dislike this?

  • superb...in love with this magnificent piece

  • My favorite song!

  • I have found myself falling in love with music like this and completely unable to listen to rock and roll, rap, etc. any more, it's as though I have been eating McDonalds all my life and just had my first real burger. Does anyone out there know where I should start to introduce myself to this beautiful world of music?

  • @ATENakaATON Lets see Jazz, soul, alternative or classical take your pick..

  • @UglyBetty70 lol I meant like a book to read to get a grounded start in what's available in classical. I'll just have to look into music history for a while and run through blogs.

  • @ATENakaATON Music history is always a good start. Just let your curiosity lead you through it all :)

  • @ATENakaATON my bad, year music history in classical would be a better option if thats more what your going for(lol)

  • Grimm!

  • i have to learn this for my winter music exam :|

  • Learned a lot about this piece, thank you! That adds a lot to an already fantastic composition.

  • This shall serve as inspirtion

  • This music was also used in the Buffy episode Hush, where they all lost the ablity to speak.

  • Awesome song. ;)

  • its jonathon creek lol

  • if this is what death''ll be playing, i wouldn't mind coming out of my grave to dance :D

  • love this song. im going to use it in my big project.

  • it's a truely lovely piece

  • lighten up a little guys.

not everyone has been fortunate enough to have basic knowledge in or an education in classical music, you can't expect everyone to know the technical jargon. if you do & have an appreciation for classical music, that's fantastic & truly a gift to hold onto in an era of dwindling classical music. but rather than use that gift to gloat, you should share it with those who don't have it.

it doesn't matter how people find good music. all that matters is that they find it.

  • @purpleforevah Well said.

  • @zx14239 poo

  • @rufieboy eloquent

  • @purpleforevah nice! i respect your opinion and i'm agree n.n

  • beautiful

  • my HGH SCHOOL orchestra is playing this. What i do not get is, why are people taking away programs like orchestra and band even though they are FRACKIN GOOD!?

  • /watch?v=KQ9Jxc8QODk

another version By Ruckus Roboticus.. its actually pretty interesting

  • @Kamyu Lighten up! Weather or not he calls it a song, that is no excuse for rudeness. And so what if the person who wrote that is american? You need to get over your self!
