  • I think the principle is, "give a man a fish... teach a man to fish..."

Lee never said, "anything you do to help someone else ultimately hurts them in the long run." That's your strawman. You seem to not understand that there are different ways to help people. Charity is good for short term. You're gonna starve tommorow? Here, have a sandwich. While you're enjoying that sandwich, let's make it so you won't need one from me again. It's a simple principle.

  • If you sent someone food, they'll starve. If you send them money, they'll only grow poorer. If you love someone you destroy them. It is perfectly, simple, John.

  • You know why Africa is still extremly poor. It iss because of Global warming Alarmists. They stifled Africa's development extremly. This is so wrong espicially when the problem of glo- I mean climate change. DOESN'T EXIST. The truth deniers just want more money and power. They don't care about anyone

  • The countries complaining about climate change are developing nations like India and China. Africa's problems are mostly political.

  • China complaining? Really? That must be why they aren't doing anything that is "green". As I said before the problem doesn't even exist. No you must not now alot about Africa. The big reason why Africa was poor is Geography. Then it stays poor thanks to truth deniers. For a problem that again doesn't exist.

  • China and India complaining about having to reduce emissions. War and Armed Conflict is the leading cause of poverty in Africa.

  • . Your first sentence was very much diffrent then your last one. Hmmm are you trying to mislead everyone. You seem to be mixing up causes and effects exactly what you accused HTWW of doing.

  • You are claiming that action to contain carbon emissions will harm Africa. I am telling you carbon cap and trade are the least of Africa's problems. India and China stand to suffer the most.

  • @j0hnwi11iams Of course it will. They are trying to develop, but they would need to "pollute" the earth to do it. I am not saying India and China would not suffer greatly. As they would. Everyone would

  • A liberal criticizing us of intellectual dishonesty? dude you liberals wouldn't know honesty if it bit you in the ass and it does often. Case in point Climate Change. And lets not forget the Comrade in Chief spews dishonesty with just about every word he reads off his teleprompter(he's not even honest about who he is).

How about being honest about "healthcare" being nothing more than a power grab hmm? Then you can criticize, 'til then get of your high horse.

  • I make it a point not to spend time arguing with birthers. Not only are you stupid, you are too stupid to realize how stupid you are. Stupid Squared.

  • Really? I'm stupid? Wow. And of course you've demonstrated your intellectual superiority by hurling insults(proving your utter lack of debating skill and serious lack of intelligence on your part) .The fact is, he was adopted by his Kenyan grandfather thus losing US citizenship even if he was born in Hawaii. I noticed you didn't adress my other points nor any of my points for that matter. Because you can't. That's fine, I address facts, you hurl insults.

  • I should have figured you are a hard core birther who will never admit what a waste of time that whole fake issue is. You hold a position deserving of ridicule.

  • I'm not a birther. I don't care where he was born. I was talking about lying about who he is politically, he said he'd govern from the center, instead he governs from the extreme left, he promised transparency. Yet he Reid,Pelosi, are buying(literally) votes behind closed doors. He vowed to point out those guilty of pork barrel spending. He claimed he would control spending instead he adds 1 trillion to the deficit. And none of THAT has anything to do with where he was born.

  • shut the fuck up you commie

your killing millions of children in the third world

  • I think you skipped a few steps in your analysis.

  • There's a difference between help-outs and hand-outs.

You'd best remember that I will HELP someone out, but ONLY so much.

The adage applies "Give a man a fish, he eats for a day; TEACH a man to fish, and he eats for a lifetime."

Don't tell me that, just because I gave one away, I have to KEEP giving out my fishes in perpetuity!

  • Charity will never fix structural problems with society. Teaching a man to fish will accomplish nothing if the water contains no more fish.

  • Structural problems? Such as?

  • What are you talking about.

  • Are you gonna bark all day, little doggy...or are you gonna bite?

I think liberals are more emotional and conservatives are more like thinkers, that is why the most intelligent people, who have made it further than any other group is conservative: lawyers, doctors, business captains, politicians.

You have to understand doing an emotional outburst is not a formal argument and is called: argument ad emotion and is a logical fallacy.

HowTheWorldWorks is more like a thinker and philosopher.

  • That's why Republicans want tax cuts and Democrats want slush funds!

  • Style over substance. What about my main point, that conservatives think helping people hurts them?

  • Helping is one thing. Enabling is something else entirely. So which are Democrats doing? That's the REAL issue here.

  • Ayn Rand proved axiomatically that helping people against one's will cannot be proven and therefore is to be left aside.

It is not so much unlike the existence of God. You cannot disprove God, that does not mean he exists.

I agree conservatives should be more honest and just say: "Hey, I am evil and I am loving it" like Peikoff:

    watch?v=JoAWCwm-UXw

  • Social contracts are part and parcel of a democracy. We use the law to enforce them. Some people call this compelling people to do things against their will, particularly those who fail to see any value in society and mistakenly think that society robs them of their power as individuals.

  • Perhaps in 2010 the American people will put the grown ups back in charge. It is going to take years to clean up this mess you 50 year old, haven't grown since you graduated, liberals have to offer.

  • You mean the mess that the republicans started? Right. Take a loot at the data before you begin talking. History shows the republicans as bigger spenders than anyone else. Both Bush kiddies and Reagan set MULTIPLE (eight total) debt spending records.

Yep, good thing the 'grown ups' are supposedly gonna come in in 2010 and 'clean up this mess'.

  • You do realize that it was Reagan's economic plan the led to the cushy economy that Clinton got to sit on, right? Because you left that out...just wanted to make sure that you were aware.

  • Idiot. Reagan ran up the deficit. Give me a credit limit like that and I can do pretty well too.

  • Wait a minute! If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach him to fish you feed him for a lifetime. I also agree that giving things to people who dont necessarily earn it will not lead to the initiative to earn. We shouldnt have sent food, we should have sent farmers and engineers. Maybe we could teach them to be more effective farmers and self-reliant. But no...the UN made them into a welfare case. That is what Conservatives really believe

  • Well, this is what we are currently doing in Afghanistan. Giving them things instead of teaching them to take care of themselves. Then the rich come in and take the things we gave them.

It's bound to happen even if we teach them, actually.

  • John, that's completely wrong. Conservatives believe that there always needs to be a safety net to help those who can't help themselves. Write it down so as not to be confused in your future ramblings.

What we don't believe in is removing incentive to work hard by giving those who can work excessive handouts and free rides.

Just thought I'd clear that up for you.

  • HAHAHA. Personal responsibility for conservatives means pushing all the consequences of risk on to individuals. No one buys that compassionate conservative crap anymore. The image they want to project is being cruel to be kind, but in fact it is just cruel.

  • Funny, I was raised by conservative principals and I don't feel I have been treated cruel in any way.I take responsibility for myself, don't you John? Or, do you not feel responsible for your own life?

Does the Government owe you something that you're not getting? Let me know. I'll write a letter on your behalf.

  • I was not responsible for the crash wiping out 50% of my personal fortune.

  • No one forced you to put your money in the stock market. You could have kept it in CDs or Bonds. Might want to diversify next time. Its your fault, but If there is anyone else to blame, its the partly the greedy bankers and mostly the dumbass people trying to buys houses with money they didn't have on an adjustable rate loan. Blame them, not the government

For US's future, I blame Bush and Obama for increasing debt and bailing out businesses that should have failed. Better spent elsewhere

  • Typical conservative response. Blame the victim. You fucked up, you trusted us. It figures.

  • Stop with this liberal / conservative BS. It is not productive and makes you look ignorant.

  • The conservatives ruled this country for three decades and turned it to shit. They have yet to learn ANYTHING from the experience. I am not at all ready to forgive them because they have yet to offer anything close to an actual apology. Contrary to popular opinion, I did not have all my money in stocks. That does not mean I have to LIKE what happened, or think there is anything there for ME PERSONALLY to learn from the experience. The conservatives let the foxes run the hen houses.

  • Politicians have run this country into the ground, Dems and Republicans. This country's people are still center-right, not left and yet now the country is being run by left radicals. I guess the corruption and distortion of the left is ok with you though. Better radicals than conservatives, right John?

  • Typical Liberal response. You know good and well that banks were forced by the likes of Barney Frank and Chris Dodd to provide no money down loans to people that could not afford them, When Republicans attempted to put regulations in place people such as Barney Frank and Maxine Waters assured us that there was no problem and that regulation was not necessary. Democrats forcing banks to make loans to the unqualified and you making bad investments is the root cause of you loosing half your wealth.

  • They weren't reassured JMBSM, they were called racists. When they tried to regulate Fanny Mae & Freddie Mac, they were told that it was racially motivated to keep minorities impoverished. No politician can survive that type of onslaught.

Of course now liberals blame Bush for not regulating when he should have...

  • You conveniently ignore the exploits of wall street with unregulated derivatives and the vast amount of bad loans that were made by private banks far over shadowing anything the government was involved in.

  • Again pointing to the least significant part of that whole mess. It's just something you can latch onto so that you don't have to think about how regressive your ideology is.

  • Yes you are boomer. Your apathy makes you culpable. You failed to educate yourself and understand the complexities of this country. You believed politicians. You impoverished generations of American children through the morally reprehensible misuse of debt. We will take from you all that we can so that our kids have a chance.

  • Fuck head: Boomers like me created the fucking internet. Now STFU.

  • "Personal responsibility for conservatives means pushing all the consequences of risk on to individuals."

Do you even think about what you type? Reflect for half of a second. What is risk without reward or consequence? It's not risk at all. Are you kidding me?

Conservatives give more and do more for the poor than any government program ever could. From someone who believes we can spend our way out of debt, it comes to no surprise that you have no idea what you're talking about.

  • 1) There are degrees of risk. Of course people need to be accountable for their actions, but people are not entirely responsible for their position in life. People should not be made to suffer for an unjust system that keeps 10% unemployed. Society needs consequences, too.

    2) We invest our way to increased productivity, not spend our way out of debt.

  • Lol... invest our way to increased productivity.... sounds like you've been reading the teleprompter.

Economically speaking, that makes absolutely no sense in a Capitalistic society. The "collective" is a communistic or socialistic thought. The use of the pronouns We & Us tell me everything I need to know your thinking.

It's skewed and misguided and the greatness of the United States is lost on you.

  • There is a balance between "I" and "we". We need to cooperate as a society and not just compete as individuals. Both aspects are important. Consider how important law and order is to productivity. We invest in law and order.

  • You're right about one thing. We do invest in law and order. Our Congress has the best pension and health care money can buy. We pay for those to have the grandest parachuttes of all, yet we mock CEOs and Presidents of major corporations. Where is the balance? Where is the feeling of responsible governing? The hypocracy knows no bounds with professional politicians. Party lines be damned.

  • The premise of Lee Dorren's argument is wrong. The Billions of dollars that have been given to Africa have actually resulted in wide-spread corruption in African governments. Most of the aid money has ended up in the hands of bureaucrats who are unaccountable to the people. The nation of Zaire was said to be so corrupt that there was almost no chance of creditors getting their money back if they offered any loans.

  • He said food aid discouraged farmers from "maintaining" thier land dude. You have it wrong. Prices fix everything. Chill out and get ready the West's welfare states to collapse. It will be a fantastic ride. Just have some gold and some popcorn. Take care.

  • All the gold in the world won't buy the last loaf of bread.

  • beg to differ. you completely misunderstand what gold. It is a medium of exchange for your human capital. It is unbiased and scarce. It is real and sought after for 4,000 years. it is ungovernable. It is beautiful. Once the debt monster comes to feast again, not even your govt will save you. Debt is a claim on future human capital my man, and the world does not have enough. It is not sustainable. Boomers like you destroyed this country. Guys like me will rebuild from your ashes. By

  • Gold is fiat currency like anything else. The only thing that keeps gold going is the belief that it is worth something and the fact that it has a very long shelf life.

  • Your ignorance is stunning. Gold is not a fiat currency. There is this thing called the internet and I hear it has endless information with which you can educate yourself. I implore you to use it and educate yourself. Golds value is its scarcity (it cant be printed). It has been accepted across all cultures as a medium for exchange for thousands of years. Its change in value vs. fiat currency is a reflection trust in the govt that issued the currency. Good luck

  • I think I bent the definition a little too far on that one. Still, my point is still valid. Gold is only worth something because people believe it is. There is nothing magical about it. You could substitute gold with any other commodity, or as Lincoln did add other commodities into circulation like silver.

The problem gold is that it is like any other commodity subject to manipulation and speculation.

  • Gold's value is its scarcity and yes, it could be substitued with another scarce commodity because the point is the commodities can not be printed at will. Remember - money is only suppose to be a medium of exchange for your human capital. Ever wonder why Wall St bonuses are hundreds of millions while the middle class is being whiped out? Read Matt Taibbi's piece from rolling stone this week. And break from of this liberal/conservative mindset - we are in a lot of trouble. Good luck.

  • great video.

lee's video today was obnoxious and disgusting. did anybody catch the "third world countries are poor because they are statist" line?

    it's pathetic.

  • John Williams , why are you such a little nanny-state douche bag??

What's wrong , can't survive in the real world without Big Brother holding your hand ??

The reason Lee makes you sick , is because you can't break any of his arguments, and deep down inside you know you're too much of a moron to suceed without government hand-outs.

This country will never fully submit to the will of cowardly statists like you. Too much of the American Spirit still exists in most of our hearts.

  • His hasn't addressed any of my arguments. He keeps talking about things like how the free market is better than the feudal system.

  • I actually laugh out loud every time I watch your videos. I'm not even lying.

  • Did it ever occur to you to look at Europe that was poorer than almost all African Countries today, and experience severe famines for 1000s of years until around the early 1700s when private property rights were finally protected.

  • What happens when people lose faith in your money? Food grows on trees.

  • I will fully admit that capitalism is superior to the feudal system. Capitalism has its own set of problems that emerge as the game goes from opening to end game. Asserting that Capitalism is better than feudalism does nothing to address these problems. I will also fully admit that communism and socialism only work at very small scales, certainly nothing as big as a state. There is a need for balance between freedom for individuals and freedom for societies to create social contracts.

  • /There is a need for balance between freedom for individuals and freedom for societies to create social contracts.//

Freedom for Societies? You do understand that there is no such entity called a 'society'. There are individuals, nothing more. A society cannot have rights. Individuals have rights.

  • I actually laugh when you never actually respond to legitimate questions I have for you.

  • The pursuit of happiness isn't so difficult; just look on the bright side. But the pursuit of the truth must allow for a range of emotions.

  • Actually the left only helps people enough to survive and stay poor. The left would rather have a large sum of people under their thumb on welfare than to help create a climate for JOBS so those people can actually make a GOOD LIVING THAT THEY DESERVE. Now they are going to want to control what a person eats and what size of carbon footprint they will allow people to have.

  • how about free education so people would be smart enough not to be slaves to corporatism?

  • Ah so it is better to be a slave of the state and a union? Tell us how you get a free education, because last I looked they charge money for that. Might not be your money but it is money someone else EARNED.

  • Read Plautus' "Pseudolus" and get back to me. One need not be a slave at all.

  • You mean Atlas Shrugged right?

  • dude, i read that in high school. liked it, then saw its shortcomings. if you want radical individualism without an intellectual straighjacket, read the Diamond Sutra or anything by Aleister Crowley. Just remember that radical thinking usually ends up seeing that we're so seamlessly interdependent that our individuality is ghost-like.

  • Hmmm so to be all independant I have to go all red?

  • All societies need some degree of social altruism in order to survive. It is baked into our genes. Rand was a regressive voice and unfortunately still is.

  • lol, you defeat the purpose of altruism by claiming that altruism is needed to survive. If altruism is needed to survive, then someone has a rational self interest in doing those actions.

But then it's no longer altruism, assuming you define it as giving with nothing in return.

  • The left, in the tradition of Jefferson, would prefer to educate people. There are, however, limits to what we can expect because of the vast amount of information out there, and the poor job the news media does in prioritizing issues.

  • "you know, there is something REALLY wrong with you"

    yup!

John, you could have ended your video right there my friend! hahahaha the guy is a TOTAL dip shit! period!

  • There are always people on the right who despise people like Jerry Lewis because he violates their core excuses for being apathetic to human suffering.

  • Rightwing is good on half truths.

Christian help organizations has sabotaged aid projects that was rebuilding farms. By given ppl food in exchange of convert to christianity and with food didnt the ppl need to farm so they sold of their land ot tobacco and coffe plantage. In Rwanda did the ppl see through this and refused the christian "aid" it is plenty of stories about this and also has subsidiced food from USA destroyed the local market in some african countries.

    All half truths and lies

  • One of these days I'm gonna get around to PWNing HTWW on cap & trade & climate science/environmentalism. It is the subject of my current major research paper, so I have legit economic basis (the only thing the twat comprehends) to tear his fundamarketism down.

Great vids as always, keep 'em up!

  • You are an NEA stupid fuck

  • And I suppose the corollary to that is that hurting people will help them in the long run. The right wing is all about bringing on the punishment.

  • you like intellectual honesty? then how about responding to tubaboy71's comment instead of picking on a helpless moron like audiolife36.

  • Because people like tubaboy71 believe 3 emails out of 13 years is proof global warming is a 'fraud'.

  • and that statement proves you don't read anything before you comment on it.

  • If I could locate them all. I only do this part time.

  • Lee Doren has been discredited several times. He is a proven liar and right wing propagandist. Throughout his video 'critique' of the story of cap and trade, he struggles to bring up arguments against Leonard for the sake of making himself look good. Half of his video is agreeing with her, and the other half is calling her an extremist (which Lee Doren himself is. Neo-con Extremist.) and not even putting up any intellectual arguments.

Lee Doren is a coward and a danger to society.
