Not really same situation with my 920 Virago. It would be good if yamaha had included the kicker as an additional feature. Best thing is to be sure the starter is good, the battery is full charged and the starter relay is allowing full current to pass through. Read voltage at the strater terminal-get a helper for this and see that voltage when cranking is with in spec measured right on the main starter wire. hope this is helpful. John C
@tomchpvp i don't think a kick will go on a maxim...i have an 81 and its hard to find the electric starter for that year...its pretty easy to find the 82's though for some reason...that was the year they changed to shaft drive so it mounts differently and won't work with a chain drive 81
After all that investment to rephase the engine, why didn't you get rid of the ghey stock Special handlebars??

I have a 82 Yamaha Maxim 650 with some starter issues. Are there any provisions for putting a kick-starter on this model? Thanks!
