Judaism used to be the dominant religion. It was not solely the holocaust that brought us to being the minority that we are. She was not saying that she was robbing you of your heritage. She WAS saying that race shouldn't be the first thing that defines people in our culture. Why isn't there a white history month? because it's celebrated ever year. America never intended to create a melting pot but anyways not my point; so many (which does not mean all) of the slaves that were brought here from America were from merchants from foreign nations and a lot of the African tribe leaders actually sold off their people for various goods in exchange. Also the very first Africans that were brought to America were from the dutch and they were treated as indentured servants.

I'd never ask anyone to be separated from their culture, I just don't want history to be separated by culture, it should be 100% chronological and involve ALL cultures. Setting aside time during the year in schools for separate cultures is going to undermine the chronology of things. I understand why black history month started, as blacks typically got ignored in a lot of older historical American texts. Purposefully not written by some embittered old white people.

My best friend is black and he lives in the us. After visiting him over there I was shocked to see how separated the races are in America. Races are identities in the US. Look in present day society, this is not meant to be racist, but where I live (Washington DC)...the majority of those who receives welfare, social security, food stamps are of black decent. Judaism used to be the dominant religion. It was not solely the holocaust that brought us to being the minority that we are. She was not saying that she was robbing you of your heritage. She WAS saying that race shouldn't be the first thing that defines people in our culture. Why isn't there a white history month? because it's celebrated ever year. America never intended to create a melting pot but anyways not my point; so many (which does not mean all) of the slaves that were brought here from America were from merchants from foreign nations and a lot of the African tribe leaders actually sold off their people for various goods in exchange. Also the very first Africans that were brought to America were from the dutch and they were treated as indentured servants.

I'd never ask anyone to be separated from their culture, I just don't want history to be separated by culture, it should be 100% chronological and involve ALL cultures. Setting aside time during the year in schools for separate cultures is going to undermine the chronology of things. I understand why black history month started, as blacks typically got ignored in a lot of older historical American texts. Purposefully not written by some embittered old white people.

@gusandbutton If your going to ask people to look at people as people then ask the police who arrest, prosecute and incarcerate blacks at rates larger than whites, give out longer sentences for those who kill whites than for those who kill blacks, longer sentences for those who rape white women than those who rape black women. I'm black and your vid was OFF POINT. I watched the vid the little girl posted. I read her description. Sister, she is a kid who didn't go through what we went through and those of us in the south still go through. She only wants us all to NOT SEE race. That's what she meant. You have to remember, these kids are NOT hypersensitive about race like we are so the way you're seeing this is not how she meant it, I don't think. She only wants us all to get along and because of her age she does not really understand why there are divides. If we all could be that innocent there would be no racism. American has helped all races, especially blacks. Look in present day society, this is not meant to be racist, but where I live (Washington DC)...the majority of those who receives welfare, social security, food stamps are of black decent. There are a lot of education problems strictly slated to help those in lower income neighborhoods.
To say that American never came to the aid of blacks is ignorant.

Someone asked me if I felt that all whites were privileged ... OF COURSE NOT! The most marginalized of people are the poor, no matter what color,. However, if I were to compare the chances of a leg-up in society given to the poor of different colors, things might look very different depending upon which state or town you live. In my small Pacific NW town, sick of being pulled over once per week in his Lexus, a black man I knew had to buy a beat up VW on his way to class to avoid harrassment.

Just because a white teacher yells at a black kid they assum its "cuz there black" they think everyones racist, and that whites get all the perks of life. But when you do tests they give you a part to fill out for the "african american scholar ship program' just because your black you deserve a scholarship? i dont see the section for white scholarship..ect.
