Cavett was an innovator in the fact that he interviewed so many famous rock stars on his show and treated them respectfully during this era. Thanks for the post!
@centuryboatfan So many things she said went streight over Cavetts head ,you can see it!!!I think she really liked him because he tried to understand her and what was going on at the time.I went thru all these interviews the crowd didn't get most of what she was saying !!todays audiences would be laughing there asses off!!
@nicktesla45 Wow.......Judging by your profile, I'm shocked you'd say that about anyone. Who are you in the grand scheme of things though? Janis lives forever and you'll die a nobody!
this is a fight i cant be in because i just found out about her today i've heard alot about her but never heard her music before this is the first time i'm hearing her music and i like it
I'm reading Love, Janis right now. Such a beautiful read. I had always wondered if Janis and Dick had slept together and I found out they had. After they made love, Dick put on Janis's boa's and was walking around naked. I liked these two together. I love you Janis.
@Tima38Killjoy funny,,,(sarcasm),,,Ive read that book several times and never EVER read THAT particular bunch of crap. I guess Ill have to re-read it. I doubt VERY seriously if she slept with Dick Cavett. They were close friends. But I guess you mustve got a different "version" of that particular book,,,,,,yea,,,"beautiful read"....yea whatever
@NoRosesForMe Dave also told me that night Janis was on the Dick Cavett show she slept with Cavett and laughed about how he was running around her hotel room wearing nothing but the feather boa she sported during her interview.
So sure I'd make shit up like that! Guess you don't know everything do ya? Why wouldn't Janis have slept with Dick? He was a hot piece of meat and Janis was a foxy lady!
@Tima38Killjoy yadda yadda,,,,,peace n blessings lil gal. Thats all Ill say. PEACE and I wish you the best. You say some shit about Janis on here and some people aint gonna take it. Okay? xx PEACE!!!!!!!
@NoRosesForMe LOLLLL! I didn't make it up! What purpose would it serve? And I'm older than you, so get over the attitude! You don't know shit about Janis! And having fans like you is more of an insult than a blessing! Now I know Janis! You know shit! Deal!!!!!!
@dsweetpo9 yu talk about them merging the cultures of what cultures do you talk about if it's the blues yu would be wrong, Janis Joplin's contibution was that she was the first female to break into a pretty well exclusive boys club when it came to rok and roll, she also was the first white blues wailer of that period, but cultures merging i fail to see it and i grew up in that era.
You know what? I loved her music, voice and talent, but you wannabe hippies? STFU with your gay ass comments "she's beautiful, man" "wow, man, I dig her"....just STFU and create your own 'culture' and stop mimicking others'.
@dictator54 She was one of a kind and her contibution to the musical evolution was just what they needed. It took all of them to band together before they got the recognition they deserved and they gave the audience what it needed and wanted. People who critisize haven't taken the time to observe or appreciate the merging of the cultures that made this music possible.
As a 22 plus yr ex Heroin addict I can tell Janis is on the"Jazz"right here and u should never mix junk with hard liquor RIP Janis we still love u girl
Janis was amazing and it is nothing sort of a tragedy that we lost her so early. My most sincere hopes that she rests in peace - she brought love & joy to so many.
Wish there were more performers like this now who don't need 'the machine' to be successful. She was simply talented. Raw and 'unmanufactured'. Although I wish she would have had some inner peace especially after seeing how much happiness she gave to people through her music. There was a freedom about her, yet the opposite was happening on the inside.
Forget supermodels, miss worlds and all that suggestive 'sexy' crap you get nowadays, Janis was honestly one of the most beautiful women inside and out that ever lived.
Sad... You can tell - compared to her 1969 interview on Cavett - that she's really spaced out and having trouble with her train of thought and keeping her concentration. The comparisons (and contrasts) between both interviews, and her body language is very telling. It's almost too painful to watch this knowing she would be gone in roughly eight weeks. Such a sweet spirit under that banged up exterior.
For all the Haters; Janis was one of the greatest live acts of her era! Just shows how "Shallow" & superficial alot of todays generation is! True "Music" Died, the day video hatched.
I fully agree--she was high on something--we'll never know what but sounds like she had an awefull life starting with bullies in school then drugs/alcohol
Very addicting it seems--wouldn't know as I've never done those things
Can you imagine an artist composing life on stage? Janis could.. So sad that her life was that short.. Just remember her songs, made from the bottom... as long as you live !
In '68 I loved the Byrds, Dylan and I could have taken of left Janis. By '71 the Janis seed was planted and in 2012 I have fucking roses growing out of my ears. Match that Mitt, and I am a Mormon.
it wasnt booze or drugs that killed Janis,,alot of people die from a greater evil, Its called depression. And its going to be one of the worst diseases going forward for years to come,,,
She helped me get through a horrible first marriage. Also, when my son had *very* bad colic, Kozmic Blues was one of two songs that could soothe his savage breast and help him sleep.
I absolutely love Janis and her music !! I also happen to be heterosexual ...But if it came down to sex with Her or Dick Cavett, I'd probably have to flip a coin.

Well iam assuming your are at least 50y/o and alive back when joplin was around. Yes she was very much into peace and love, but she was also a drug addict as demonstrated by her untimely death. She was a great entertainer but very far from being in a postition of leadership and serving as a role model for the youth.
Yes, Janis did Drugs, & Yes, She was an Alcoholic-- But Goodness, SO Many Rock Stars did Drugs (Even Today) and Drink. People Enjoy Good Times-- (And/But) Some can Take it OverBoard, and it's Very Sad. She (Janis) was not Trying to Portray the Action of "Leadership" (That is False). Janis was Liberating & Here to Make Music for the World with "Every LIttle Piece of Her Heart". She was Her Own Person and That's Why We All Love Her For it! <3
@jethrodassam She had barely had enough time to land on her feet once she found her voice and people like her are far and few between. She was a diamond in the rough, the harder she worked the better she got. From reject to star she kept her composure and gave her audience what they wanted. I mourn that stolen time that her talent deserved. Cavett had some big shoes to fill when he got this gig and Janis's shoes were the ones she was born with and she wore them well.
Anyone that hates Janis Joplin is an idiot. She was not a bad person. She just had personal issues that she dealt with the wrong way(drugs & alcohol). She was an amazing singer. Her music transcends time. She's a legend.I'm extremely sad she is dead.I hope she's in a better place free from what made her troubled.R.I.P Janis
@evileve18 A huge difference between musicians from yesterday and today. I mean, all generations have their good stuff. But this generation, they were just for music, freedom, drugs and good time. Fuck glamour!! They were so free, so themselves. Dealing with their own issues, against a generation not well prepared for this unique souls. People criticize her because of the drugs and alcohol. But this lady did in 27 years what a lot who criticizes her will not do in a lifetime. Fuck critics!!
@crystalship42 Totally!Today it's all about money and hotness. You don't need talent to be an artist especially when you got auto-tune.It's sad.Our biggest music artists today are Justin Bieber and Katy Perry. Two of the most untalented people out there but they're extremely popular and raking in the cash.
Thank god for Adele,Florence and the machine,Jessie J,Adam Lambert, and Kelly Clarkson!:)
@evileve18 i agree with you 99% Adam Lambert sucks i dont care what you think he sucks as a musician and he's a fucking poser ,i thought he was gonna be huge but one of the reasons why he didnt made it big its because his music sucks,he has a great voice but he doesnt have personality he's just an image and a voice,he's just a big fucking pussy singer, all of many,he has no credibility whatsoever ,he dresses like a """rock n roller""" but he listens to all those biebers and perrys and gagas ...
@idareyoutostopme Okay now I know you NEVER heard her stuff because this is completely untrue.I LOVE her voice and a lot of the songs she's written are lovely:)
@idareyoutostopme He actually doesn't listen to Bieber and he's been friends with Katy(and her friends) for a while(before the fame) so I give him a pass on that.Lady Gaga actually has talent and I like some of her songs.Just because there is auto-tune and untalented hacks in the pop world does not mean they are ALL untalented.I love all genres of music it:)
@evileve18 Amen. You can tell from this interview what a really sweet, good person she was. She endured a ton of abuse from other people in the years before she came out to S.F., and evidently all her fame and talent couldn't compensate for her pain. ONly 27 years old.
@nicodagger She does seem like she was a sweet soul. She was just abused by society that thought she was weird.I think that's why I always felt a kinship with her because I was treated badly for being weird and different as well. The part that makes me the saddest is that someone could of helped her but they didn't because of selfish reasons:(
@MonkeyWildCat Oh No You Didn't! You my dear sir/madam are insane if you think her voice sucked. Her voice was out-of-this-world amazing. Her voice had such a richness to it.When she sang you felt it in your core. You believed the words she sang because she had real soul.
"she was literally the only female rock singer at the time" You need you look stuff up because you are factually incorrect.
@MonkeyWildCat Oh she was not and it was because of her, her voice, her singing, her whole persona. Experts have noted that her voice was so rare that she
had 7 different tones in her voice a true rarity and gift. If you don't like her, just go, she was loved and adored, still is by millions of us....
@RollingOrmond! nup! but seriously dude, she just screeches! that aint singing. And wot a drugged out generation that was! and u guys think to slam my generation every chance u get! meh!
@coocoo2803 It's called singing with "soul." I know your generation is just blackberries with bodies attached, so there's no way in hell you'd understand.
I am always amazed that folks attribute brilliance to these people who could not even make the right decisions to keep themselves alive. You can be artistic and very stupid. Janis could sing but she is the last person on Earth anyone should emulate in any way.
Janis was a very good artist (drawing, painting) as well. Infact, she was very intelligent--a good student in school from what i read in an biography my mother had of her. She was cremated .
Gee, maybe Janis got re-incarnated as Amy Winehouse, now with tattoos, hairpiece, and bad taste in men, and left again after only 27 years on this planet.

Damn right Fuck the critics!

ONly 27 years old.
nicodagger 1 month ago
@nicodagger She does seem like she was a sweet soul. She was just abused by society that thought she was weird.I think that's why I always felt a kinship with her because I was treated badly for being weird and different as well. The part that makes me the saddest is that someone could of helped her but they didn't because of selfish reasons:(

@evileve18 her voice sucked, the only reason she became famous is because she was literally the only female rock singer at the time.....

Janis [blessed be her name] mentioned "Love Limousines" by John Fisher. Anyone got any photos or other info they could share about this???

I am always amazed that folks attribute brilliance to these people who could not even make the right decisions to keep themselves alive. You can be artistic and very stupid. Janis could sing but she is the last person on Earth anyone should emulate in any way.

Janis was a very good artist (drawing, painting) as well. Infact, she was very intelligent--a good student in school from what i read in an biography my mother had of her. She was cremated .

Gee if i could ever interview Janis Joplin i would ask her;
"do you waterski"?
WAHOOUPS 2 months ago
Gee, maybe Janis got re-incarnated as Amy Winehouse, now with tattoos, hairpiece, and bad taste in men, and left again after only 27 years on this planet.
