Not really but we did use one for this session since we were trying to recreate the infamous "In The Air Tonight" drum sound as well as others (like "I Don't Care Anymore" where the mics where inside the tom shells). But recently Hugh was given a 4021 in a ceremony when the Townhouse gear was being sold. Mark Knopfler bought it and his studio just gave it to Hugh in his honor. I was there around the time it happened! Cool esoteric recording history moment. ;)
More is coming but what you'll really want to see is Sonic Reality TV which is coming very soon to our Sonic Reality web site. (Next week soon). We'll show more from this session and also us sampling Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford's instruments... all sorts of Genesisy stuff and Hugh Padgham, Nick Davis... good tips, tricks, stories... this is what we uncover when we do sample libraries and virtual instruments such as Infinite Player. We add premium content so YOU can play these sounds.
Is it just me, or does he sound like Nigel from Spinal Tap?

What kind of drums are those? The concert toms have a strange cut.

@wildmanhawkes Those are Premier single head toms.

Are the overheads U47s?

Yes, they are U47 Fet mics. He uses 87's for room though, stereo pair.

Thanks. Does he still use the signature 4021 talkback mic?
