I think the point is just to show how the square is like a gathering spot for the swimmers. EXPLANATION- The white square is purity for women; white teen, mom with innocent sons, girls talking about a white dress at the disco, first love etc. Once they leave the float they are faced with the world; young guys cat calling, old guy watching, older woman reminiscing. I think it ends with a metaphorical rape (guy pushing her under and vagina close up) and a girl deciding to remain pure, hence the pits. It's either that or the nyquil's kicking in.

About their stories, how they feel, what they're thinking, their personality? Can't you see how things about each character are suggested? Or are you really that shallow? @roseisabird the first line of your comment really got me. when i go swimming (at the pool/fitness center) i sometimes, when i'm heaving with breaths from just finishing several laps, i just sorta look at people and try to decipher their behaviour and the cause of it. when i'm in the steam room, that is the most telling, especially when friends or people are talking to one another, because the way they speak, their diction, really reveals their true nature and their personality.

It's all about details. I agree it's a very subtle way of telling a story. You can observe a lot of small things that suggest you all the stories inside the charaters and their relationship. If you are active audience you got the story. If you need obvious stories, shots, bomb blasts, and fuck scenes go and watch a piece of 'Transformers' and all that stuff. That's what I call boring!

i think the comments are very harsh, it isn't narratively driven, when starting out with films you need to get a knowledge of how to cut, edit and direct. Maybe this was an experimental artistic test. I think it is very deep and maybe gets lost, it should be a bit shorter maybe, but what film maker doesn't self indulge once in a while.

The children's innocent play with the octopus at the start I think was not completely innocent. They seemed to have no regard for other life. They both were not sure if it could live out of water yet still left it on the raft. I thought this was trying to show that cruelty is inherent in human nature.

It's a perfect picture and smell of growing up on the mediterranean sea, in a small eye catch of that platform.. where a crush is being drowned by someone, where everybody gets judged for for their body imperfections and is ashamed of them or doesn't care , where you talk about the walk in the town in the evening and dress to wear, the atmosphere is caught perfectly. It's just a small catch, but to those who lived and lives that it's very symbolic.
