  • holy cow peter jackson's wearing long pants instead of shorts!!

  • OMG he drinks his coffee in Bag End!

  • fab-o

  • Damn Golem is a beast! No idea of the actors name, but to be able to play that part and then just seamlessly switch into what appears to be Jackson's second hand man as a director and all that...crazy.

  • The guy who plays Thorin, sounds like the actor who played Borimir from LOTR.

  • OMG Peter Jackson got thin!

  • man i laugh my ass of when Peter is trying to get over the branc and then the water, he just look SO out of place ;))

  • wow, I can not believe how much I miss working on a Hollywood sound stage, so magical.

  • Man they have the coolest Jobs. I would love to be a part of that.

  • @BDSaints7 im sure there are better things to do out there

  • I can't believe that there are still places on this earth that we have not invaded with housing developments. You see, if we stop chopping down our trees, epic movies like LOTR become possibilities.

  • They should have played Ride of the Valkyries when the helicopters were flying together.

  • where ther fucks vlog number 1?????!?!?!?!!?

  • @iceblue345 there from new Zealand. Its a common mistake but both accents make me laugh

  • he gained weight :/, or his longer beard makes him look a bit fatter than the last blog :s

  • What is the song called at 5:03 ?

  • @GATHORAX1800 It's 'The Bridge of Khazad-Dum' from the LotR FotR OST :)

  • @rkleppe It's actually "The Uruk-Hai" from the soundtrack from "The Two Towers". It can also be found as "The Three Hunters" on the complete recordings of the soundtrack. ;)

  • @saysnobody Oh, right you are! Well done you, my head must not have been with me when I replied to that question :)

  • God New Zealand has the most diverse, untouched, beautiful landscapes on this planet. I want to film there lol

  • "To bassalona, to meet Dr. Who fans from Spain"

    made me happy :D

  • @orangeninjadaniel I think he said "Barcelona".

  • @Dreamer00 wasn't sure how to spell it, so you're probably right. I was just happy he made a Doctor Who reference is all XD

  • @orangeninjadaniel barcelona?

  • This just makes me so excited for The Hobbit.

  • I love Sylvester McCoy ^_^

  • 2:48 " which is a long journey" lol he even talks like gandalf!! What a legend!

  • hes getting big again

  • Hobbit diary 3 watch?v=CJgCue-3IXA&feature=related

  • I need to watch LOTR again this summer break.

  • lol at Ian McKellan. Break? What break? He's doing a play!

  • wow New Zealand is fucking beautiful.

  • Wooooooooooooo

  • 03:53 - defo the key grip!!

  • According to IMDB, Legolas, Frodo, Galadriel and Saruman will appear in The Hobbit. I guess the Hobbit which I read in my childhood must have been a fake, since none of those characters are even mentioned in it. Not sure if I want to watch this :(

  • @entropede I can only imagine that they will be cameos when it skips to the future (Lord of the Rings era of time).

  • @entropede Legolas and Saruman were in the book. even though their parts were only so breifly mentioned. Have faith in Jackson, he knows what he's doing. :)

  • @DictatoroftheCake I am 100% sure that Legolas and Saruman are not in the Hobbit. The only elves that are directly named in the book are Elrond, the Elvenking, and some of the Elvenking's servants (which were all wood elves, not high elves). As for Saruman, the only other wizard that appears in the book other than Gandalf is Radagast, and he is barely briefly mentioned. Okay okay, I am a huge geek I admit :) But you are right, I will just have to have faith in Jackson!

  • @entropede

Yes true, but Jackson is using the other books as well to sort of connect The Hobbit to LOTR. I don't think he will alter the plot all that much, but there will just be moments expanded upon that the initial book didn't tell us. We know Bloom was cast as Legolas in the Hobbit, Jackson even revealed that one. He may just have a cameo in Rivendell or something. Who knows.

  • @Fuzzyfoot88 Legolas is the son of Thranduil, king of Mirkwood forest so maybe that's where he'll make hes cameo.

  • @Fuzzyfoot88 And he's going to go into detail about Gandalf and the other wizards fighting the Necromancer (Sauron), which was only mentioned at the end of the book. He's not altering the story at all, just fleshing out a lot of it. I for one am happy about it.

  • NOWSTALGIA - when you are already feeling nostalgic about something as it happens in the present - for example see this...

  • fuck, I completely forgot how big the spectacle these films were by Peter Jackson and how amazing the LOTR sound track is.

Those location shots are magnificent. Inspired, Jackson. :)

  • I'm so Excited now to see that IAN McKELLEN is going to play GANDALF ! I have goose bumps. I can't wait now. I love that character and what McKELLEN brought to that character my gosh I'm looking so forward to this !

  • Are they making it in 3D?

  • where is mikael persbrandt?

  • @DJClimbatize I've been asking myself the same question... I bumped into him in Wellington a few months ago, so I know that he's here/has been here.

  • they are splitting the hobbit into 2 movies?

    did I get this right?

  • @bgnin Yup, that's right. Don't see why they'd need to, other than the obvious desire to make more money.

  • @rkleppe

    thanks for the reply

That is really dumb,The Hobbit is perfect to be just a single movie

  • @rkleppe ...or they want to stay more true to the novel

  • @bobo225884 Yeah, but there's only so much of the novel... Sure it has a lot of detail, but it's not really a massive story, like LotR.

  • @rkleppe true that... if you ask me this whole thing started when they decided to make 2 parts of harry potter, then twilight did it, now hobbit's gonna do it

  • @bobo225884 Yup, it's the latest trend in Hollywood!

  • Simply Amazing

  • 7:06 is super pretty.

  • Looks like they are using the same face capture tech as Avatar. Interesting. Thankfully, he wont be blue with a giant nose and dreadlocks.

  • @Chigokai1080 You do know that the technology they used to make Avatar was invented by the people at Weta digital here in Wellington? So it makes sense that they'd use it in The Hobbit as well...

  • @rkleppe I did not know that. That does make perfect sense.

  • WE USES PRECIOUS THEN WE EATS IT

  • that music gives warm fuzzy feelings inside

  • thank god they are filming in NZ again......NZ is middle earth

  • im looking foward for this movie so much because the technology is so much better since the last lotr movie, and the background and design was fabolous in lotr! i think it will blow minds how good it will be

  • I love how peter jackson looks like a hobbit and is directing this movie

  • This is the most exciting film for me in the next 5 years.

  • peter jackson is a complete legend.

  • @Linear500 but he's much on so much weight again :/

  • I wonder how gollum / smeagol will look like in the movie.

  • @DoubleNobelium Well its sthe same actor so i dont think there is gonna be much change

  • I'm SO excited about this movie!

  • TWO hobbit movies? crap!i just wanna see the full story in one part....

  • he said porta-loo

  • Well, if there's one thing we can take away from all of this it's this...Peter got fat again. Hooray! The old PJ is back! :)

  • he's back on the pies again!

  • i love his accent!

  • Uh oh Andy Serkis is transforming into Peter Jackson...

  • This is such an awesome documentary. Peter Jackson seems like he brings an amazing chemistry to his sets and it seems like everyone is happy working with him. I would love working for you Peter!!! We all probably would. We have faith in you to bring us hours of cinematic beauty like the last three films! Keep it up guys!

  • wow is it just me or did peter really fatten up since the last blog?

  • Rallis P brought me here! Thank you

  • I love that you guys are doing a video blog for this. Really well done and great to see behind the scenes!

  • Dear Mr. Jackson,

I'm terribly sorry that you won't get a vacation like the rest of the cast and crew but just know that we appreciate all your hard work and DO NOT take one bit of it for granted. We will love and support you and your films til the end of time.

    - Fans everywhere

  • i had just turned 21 when the Fellowship came out.....my god, I'm so old now... :/

  • I think making movies makes Peter Jackson gain weight.

  • looking forward to the movie gents, thanks for the behind the scenes vlogs... good on you for sharing, cheers!

  • Hearing the LOTR music again snaps me back to age eight sitting crosslegged in front of the tv staring in wonder at Tolkiens masterpieces brought to life

  • he got fat again >.>

  • My question is, did the studio give absolute freedom to Peter Jackson for the Hobbit or are they tightening the noose around his neck.

  • Peter is gaining weight again lol

  • Stuff like this wakes up my inner geek

  • ZERO DISLIKES!!! :D

  • Its' funny how Peter Jackson always gains weight while shooting his films and then loses it so quickly after the shooting ends.

  • Goddamn, I wish I was working on these movies...!

  • watching this video is almost the same as having a lightning bolt hit the tip of my penis

  • Andy is directing 2nd unit? Interesting

  • @DarMar106 I had no idea myself until I watched this video. But then I thought it was a great idea because who better to trust? After all, Andy helped out so much on Rings with camera angles and whatnot. He would surely be a good unit director for Peter on these movies.

  • New Zealand really is Middle Earth :)

  • New Zealand looks beautiful.

  • Nothing more then respect for this...

  • This alone evokes more emotion and a sense of wonder than many actual movies. Peter and all the people involved seem so passionate about these films! It's contagious to see them!

  • Thank you!!!

  • EPIC BEAUTIFUL NOSTALGIC!!

  • Awesome can't wait!!!

  • Excited is an understatement

  • So exciting!

  • Beauty

  • Thx for the upload =)

  • I like how he uses rugby fields as a standard unit of measurement.

  • The one thing i am looking forward to is the DVD crammed with extras.

  • @Smithfilmproductions blu ray you mean

  • @Smithfilmproductions I have the extended versions of LotR. The ones in boxes with 4 DVDs and I have never seen the extras. Now I understand how stupid of me this is.

  • @Smithfilmproductions

I'm looking forward to the book on how this production alone got off the ground! It's quite a miracle, given MGM's bankruptcy, deciding where to shoot, deciding the director, and Jackson's surgery among other hindrances.

  • @Smithfilmproductions i think it's gonna be a blu-ray ;)

  • Ahh this movie will be amazing. Thanks for posting :)

  • 3:22 - Legolas costumes on the wall! Can't wait to see these films!

  • I can't wait!!!
