I read somewhere that Paper Mario for the N64 was supposed to be Mario 64 2. They just changed the graphics and called it something different. It makes sense, though. peach is kidnapped, and the game relies heavily around stars. It also features multiplayer, perhaps the haunting ghost of the supposed to be multi player. i don't remember if where i got this from was a reliable source or not, so if you know anything about this, please let me know!

Mr.Awesome: Uh, isn't Super Mario 64 DS technically SM64 2? I mean, it HAS mulitiplayer (you could play as 4 Characters), and if that not enough, The DS only had a SLIGHTLY updated 3D graphics engine so them moving the game to the DS is a possibility.

Super Mario 64 2 turned out to be Super Mario 128 which was suppose to be afor the gamecube.There even footage of it. But it eventually never got made and nintendo wanted to start a whole new game which was Super Mario Sunshine. But some elements of Super Mario sunshine made it into Super mario galaxy 2.

I'm pretty sure that you cuold consider the DS version to be it's sequal. Games get moved to newer platforms all the time. Pikmin 3, for example, was confirmed I believed to be for the 3DS, yet Miyomoto recently stated it's going to come out for the Wii U. So, you can assume that's what Mario 64 2's fate was.

@ROBLOXchris why they couldn't release it with out DD is the same reason DK64 requires the expansion pack. The original N64 didn't supply enough memory or power to play it, therefore the expansion was needed

I saw a screenshot of the failed game showing Mario doing his modern walk from Mario 64, but this gameplay, unlike the prequel, had a dual-screen and the other screen on this screenshot had Luigi FLYING to the castle. Oh and the screenshot revealed this failed game's actual name: Super Mario DD. Dead serious. Thats what it's called. Anyway's there was an article in this fine screenshot, calling the failed game the "app the add-on so badly deserved."

i think so too. the multiplayer in the game must be the result of those multiplayer experiments in M64, i bet features such as caps, mini games and flowers were part of the M64 2 project. it is very nintendo to give remakes features that could not fit in the original version
