Visual Entertainment Inc (VEI) will be reissuing a 2 DVD set of this cartoon on Sept 27, 2011. 390 minutes in length, it should include all 16 episodes. Best Buy has it advertised for only $7!, but check (by time) it's not the Pierce Brosnan version.
Australian Air Programmes International originally produced the series. It was shown in the US on NBC between 1972-1973.
John Sanger's theme song is based on "Mademoiselle from Armentières" (aka 'Hinky Dinky Parlez Vous') -- /watch?v=bIcxA9miIgs
I remember this one! It took me a long time as a kid to figure out the words to the theme song. I didn't understand that the "Passepartout" parts were referring to the French character's name. Mr. Fix used to drive me nuts by talking to himself for like 5 minutes before he actually did anything. Worse than Dick Dastardly.
Does anyone know where I could get a full version of this cartoon? I grew up in the USSR and loved the dubbed version, but would very much like to see the original :)
I absolutely loved watching this when it first came out while I was in kindergarten, and then it came back while I was in grade school on weekdays. I watched it religously. And Fogg's saying "The motto of the wise is be prepared for surprises" sticks with me to this day (I'm apparently the only family member who alway seems prepared! lol)
Internet Movie Database mentions that theme writer-singer John Sangster was born November 17th.,1928, which would make him 82 [died 1995]. [Also born a day before Mickey Mouse!].
15 hours ago This was memorable for having the character Mr.Fix [Lord Maze's-Belinda's rich dad's inept hired help] talk to himself. Some US people were involved-Chet Stover-"King Leonardo","Underdog", Janet Waldo "Penepole Pitstop" and many other HB series, were involved as well.Aired 1972-73 before going into reruns, though I haven't seen in it reruns.
I discussed this cartoon series with my children telling them that Fogg will utter one quotation in each series. Memorable and educational. Helped me a lot in building good character through his sayings.
thx for posting! if you happen to have IVANHOE (also from API Productions), could you post it as well? i used to watch that toon during thanksgiving in the 70s, and it was EXCELLENT! the sword play, though animated, was BEYOND COMPARE, highlighting incredible battles using heavy swords! however, it's VERY hard to find now! even imdb, though it has the data for MOST of API's other toons, doesn't have data for IVANHOE! thx again!
This was on first in the late sixties and early seventies. Does anyone know if there was ever an episode that detailed the successful return of Fog? He gained a day because of crossing the international time line, but thought he was one day late because he kept only a written log.
I remember liking this show back when I was like 6 or 7, does anybody know if this was an American cartoon? I know it was on NBC Saturday mornings for at least a year.
I'm mexican but I was kind of a fan as a child... im 19 so i didn't expected it to be that old but wow i really like it.. Now i want to find it in spanish
Si lo encuentras por favor avisame!.. Yo recuerdo que lo veia de chavillo y si, tambien la veia en español, creo que la rentaba en los tiempos de los Videocentro jaja
Oh !!!! I loved this even when I was a teenager in the 80s...This is such a beloved favorite of mine...just equally lovable like the Tom&Jerry (Fred Quimby productions), which I SIMPLY Adore. None of the Boomerang Channels or Cartoon channels ever show the above cartoon anymore. Wonder why !!!! /:( However glad to see it on YouTube /:)
Air Programs International co-produced The Funky Phantom for Hanna-Barbera the year before which explains the H-B look, also John Sangster sang the themes to both shows which also explains the music.
I know in 1973 General Mills cereals had in its specially marked Lucky Charms and Frosty-O's cereal boxes mini foam figures from the Around the World in Eighty Days cartoon series. I have seen that commercial for the free A.T.W.I.E.D. mini foam figures from General Mills cereals on one of Ira Gallen's Video Resources Classic TV Commercial videotape complimations.
This was Hanna-Barbera like animation/music (done by Aussie Air Programs)? This was a film print and not a 1972-1973 NBC Umatic/reel to reel recording, I guess.

The actual lyrics:
"Around the world in 80 days, BEEP!!BEEP!! Passepartout!
So Fogg may marry Belinda Maze, BEEP!!BEEP!! Passepartout!"
"Fogg may fail because of Fix
Unless Fogg nixes Fix's tricks
Around the world with BEEP!!BEEP!! Passepartout!"
"Around the world in 80 days
so Fogg may marry Belinda Maze --
Around the world with BEEP!!BEEP!! Passepartout! BEEP!!BEEP!!"

Even if you don't like this briefly broadcast show, it's a catchy theme song.

I remember the sound effects mismatched the action. That really made
the show stand out for me. That and Mr. Fix's conversations with himself.

There was also a two-parter produced by Rankin-Bass, which aired around the same time. It was part of their "Festival Of Family Classics" series.
