I met him, only for half a minute in 1998 (v. nice, of course, and so easy going), and couldn't believe how tall he was - that just took me by surprise. So stupid me kept staring up at him with my mouth agape, and when he thanked me for being a fan and gave my arm a little squeeze, I turned into jello. I giggled like a 10 year old, in that starstruck way where you come off acting like you should be in a straitjacket, couldn't stop, and just kinda ran off. One of my coolest experiences EVER!

Mike Mills is an amazing bassist, and just an astounding backing singer. His vocals add such a rich depth to the songs while not distracting the listener completely: Fall On Me, Supernatural Superserious, Maps and Legends... just three examples. I mean, can you imagine Maps and Legends without Mills?

@dastipe I remember Eddie Veder said the exact thing in their induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He is a secret weapon. Which, of course he is, but he is also a very humble down to earth guy. The whole band is, but Mike Mills more so than any of the others, at least in my view.

Mike Mills' basslines, particularly from their first few albums, are incredibly intricate and melodic. I think he's such an underrated musician in contemporary music.

shes definently right about those harmonies, mills and stipes voices are so diffrent but so so so perfect together - a match made in paradise!
