Deux femmes merveilleuses de talent. Je connaissais Julie, sa grâce et sa voix sans pareille, et j'ai découvert Carol. Je ne sais pas qui peut aujourd'hui rivaliser. Katie Melua peut-être ?
they do belong together! this is brilliant I love them both :) like they say, christmas and carnival, halloween and 4th of july! best of the best in the same room!
My Favourite song! <3 Julie Andrews is sooo Funny im so glad she and Carol burnett can have a great time while entertaining others!! Its truly an amazing friendship they have <3 Love this thanks for uploading.
Carol Burnett was my alto heroine. She could belt out in a chest voice, and never seem to go flat, and if she did, that wonderful, silly putty face of hers covered it up. I would have loved to see these two perform. Both women raised in the tradition of vaudeville. If you haven't read Mrs. Andrew's latest book, "Home", I highly recommend you do so.
I can't get enough of these Julie and Carol videos. I love that two of my favorites are friends. Can you image the fun during rehearsals (in addition to the hard work)? How lucky are we to be able to see this? Thank you, Fratelliyo, for uploading this!
How fabulous is the pair of them?!? If only my name were Carol...my best friend's name is Julie, and she's more like Julie A., while I'm more like Carol. =3
Yes, 'Oldie', this number was written especially for Carol and Julie to sing on their special by Mike Nichols and Ken Welch (he also collaborated with his wife Mitzie on "special musical material" for Carol's stage and TV appearances over the years; they always got special credit at the end of her variety show).
OH MY GOD. Carol and Julie have been my IDOLS my whole life long and if it werent for YouTube and the interweb i never would have known they teamed up at all, much less this much and this well... swooooon!
Excellent early TV special with two favorites. I love how the cameras were accidentally getting the conductor's arms waving about. Shows that TV was still working out how to shoot live events.
One of the greatest openings of a TV special ever because it's such a fine time capsule: at the time of this 1962 special Carol and Julie were only Broadway babies (not to diminish the legitimate stage), but NEITHER had achieved or even begun their careers in film and series television- the media which would launch them each to super-stardom. They're both (somewhat) new here, emerging on a grand stage in ladylike evening gowns, beginning an almost 50-year friendship for the world to see.
Brings back childhood memories of sitting around the TV for this special. A long-time fave of mine, and it's great to see clips of it on YouTube so folks who never had the chance to see their work together can witness just how talented both ladies were (are). Carol singing "Meantime" was a show stopper, too. Now I hafta go looking through my old record collection for the LP of this. [lol] I think I may have worn it out from so many listens, memorizing the lyrics and numbers in the show.
I think she is imitating Richard Burton as King Arthur in Camelot here, Julie (1962) was stil playing the role as Queen Guinevere opposite Burton. Actually there is a clip of the original (Camelot) on YouTube, just type "Ed Sullivan + Camelot".
I always thought that this was the perfect song for Carol and Julie, because it describes both of them so perfectly. It highlights all the things that I love about both of them, which were also the reasons I was amazed that they worked so well together onstage, because Julie's so classy and Carol's so down home.
I was 9 years old when this aired and was not allowed to watch because my bedtime was 8 pm. I could hear my parents plus a couple aunts in the front room raving about this special as they wacthed, laughed and applauded. I am watching it now..for the the first time after all these years and realize what they were all raving about! Fantastic pairing, absolutely brilliant!! Classic!!!
carol burnett is so funny and julie andrews is so amazingly talented at singing there hot dogs and mustard!its so hailarious when carol says "you know what its like to go through life looking like a corncob pie" and "its trooo its trooo
@Pamathey I only recently heard about the rumors - what a cute couple if true...some how validating and comforting, altho, due to the times they grew up in we'll probably never know for certain as they won't come out.
i love julie and carol! they are wonderful comedians! i especially love the part when julie says: "i would like to appologize from the bottom of my heart for this aporling reach of taste!"
Please please please someone put this out on DVD. It is classic television history and has to be preserved. Personally I think its the best of the three shows they did together.
what does this mean: "you're so 4-H, you're so SPCA
and I'm oh-so-DAR"?

You're so London is great especially sung by Julie and Carol.
Best Parts
"You're so white pumps,(they're blue!) you're so pink satin slippers and I'm so army shoes!"
"And I'm so winnie the pooh"
"Where's the ladies room and I'm so may I wash?"
"I don't smoke and you shouldn't either!"
"Do you know what it's like going through life looking like a corncob pipe?"
"So petticoats and I'm so BVDS!"
I love their dresses, so classy and elegant.

thank you! I am huge fan of Julie and I adore Carol, too. I read Julie's memoir many times and that's just my guess.
homeichan 1 year ago
Actually, when Julie was doing Carneige here, Burton had left Camelot for Rome already. It was William Squires who took over his role as King Arthur.
homeichan 1 year ago
@AAMLfan
Richard Burton started off the song "Camelot" with those very lines, which he sang to Julie as Guenevere.
