  • good version

  • @Sunflower0122Z I was at that same show at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse! Too funny!

  • This man was an entertainer...god bless rick

  • Thanks so much for posting! Garth is like the mad scientist, hair flying everywhere as he cooks his magic brew!

  • @Wharfomatic thank you so much for putting this up

  • I was lucky to see them the next month in Syracuse with The Dead, it still stands as one of my best nights of live music.

    Rest in peace Rick.

  • @Sunflower0122Z I just recently converted to CD a master cassette of the soundboard for that10/23/83 show at the Carrier Dome. Yes it is most excellent The Band 10/22/83 Rag Mama Rag Long Black Veil The Shape I'm In It Makes No Difference Milk Cow Boogie King Harvest (Has Surely Come) Up On Cripple Creek You Don't Know Me Stage Fright Caledonia Genetic Method > Chest Fever I Don't Want To Hang Up My Rock & Roll Shoes The Weight Willie & Hand Jive Rivers of Babylon
  • @Wharfomatic how does a guy go about getting a copy of that? sounds epic, would love to hear.

  • @Sunflower0122Z - Rick Danko died 1999 and Richard Manuel in 1988 - The Band - Bringing Back Sweet Memories - but Levon Helm Band is stil working -

  • @200445peter Richard Manuel died on May 4, 1886 after a show at the Cheek to Cheek Lounge in Winter Park, Florida. He was Forty-Two. Rest In Peace, you'll forever be, in my opinion, one of, if not The Greatest Vocalist to emerge into this crazy world. "Spend it all".

  • @DonVerduci March 4th 1986, I was with him on Sunday the 2nd. The show in Winter Park was on Monday the 3rd and he died at some point after midnight the 4th

  • @Wharfomatic Really? Wow, I was just going by the Discography and notes made in Greil Marcus' book "Mystery Train". He mentions May 4th, but if your sure then I appreciate your response.

  • @DonVerduci I'm positive. Somedays you never forget

  • @Sunflower0122Z I was at that same show in Syracuse! It was a great night!

  • @Sunflower0122Z wow the dead and the band. jealous!

  • It is Japan. Rick thanks the audience in Japanese at the end of the song.

  • @pkotowski This is the Japan show. At the end of the song, Rick thanks the audience in Japanese.

  • Is there a dvd or cd of this concert? Would love to own it!!

  • What could the two douche bags who gave this a thumbs down possibly not like? Maybe that Robbie was in a snit and not involved? I love Rick's little dance, man, voice and bass become one. I know Robbie wrote most of the Band's great songs, but without the other guys' performances, it would not have been The Band.

  • Thanks Wharfomatic, I stand corrected, you are right. Thanks for sharing all this good stuff...

  • I am almost certain this is from their reunion concert in Vancouver, 1983, hence the flags. I could be wrong, yet nevertheless a great, great vocal performance by Mr. Danko. The Last Waltz version of this is probably the best live performance of any song by any band ive ever heard and seen . . . .

  • @pkotowski - No it's definitely from Japan. I also have that Vancouver show and truth be told of the two performances the Japan one is better.

  • I JUST RECENTLY WAS INTRODUCED TO THIS "BAND" AND NOW BEING "IN LOVE" WITH ~ RICK DANKO~ WAS SAD TO KNOW HE PASSED AWAY IN 1999 *

  • Does anyone know of any piano sheet music for this song?

  • i love that song too! many thanks for that ! Peace !!!

  • still sounds good

  • Music is always changing. This songs reflects that how it was evolving at this time. His head moving around is goooooood expression.

  • I loved how Danko did that be-bop head bop while he played.

  • Love this song.Check out the SNL performances from The Band on my channel. 4 songs.

  • nice - one of my favorite songs

  • I got a fire water on my breath, classic

  • The guitarist is Earl Cate of the Cate Bros.; The drummer is Levon Helms nephew, Terry Cagle

  • That organ solo (by Garth Hudson?) starting at 2:22 gets me anytime...

  • still a good sound

  • Great drumming! Is that Levon Helm drumming?

  • @avidrob Danko? Danko died in 99 :(

  • @EricDymond check that date

  • Yes indeed sir.

  • certainly looks like him

  • Of course! Lol Check the way he is hunched over.

  • Have you seen Levon Helm acting in Tommy Lee Jones' Three Burials Of Melquiades Estrada by the way? Check it out, it is a good movie (but Levon is not very fortunate there. And blind...)

  • I saw them at the U. of Chicago (Mandel Hall) later in this tour (fall '83); the band sans Robbie R.

  • They guy on the Telecaster is great. Who is it?

  • dont know but you are right RR not missed there.

  • Thanks for posting this video, its great!!!

  • because he began to get sick.God rest Him.

  • Great organ solo at 2:25

Still prefer The Last Waltz' version with the orchestra behind it though...

  • danko still sounded in top vocal form. nice.

  • Yeah I agree. On other vids from him from 1997 or so he didn't sound that good any more. Why?

  • By that time, Danko was very ill, from diabetes and weight gain (and years of alcohol/drug use). He died in 1999 of a heart attack- one of two great North American roots-rockers to die that year, also of a heart condition (the other was Doug Sahm).

  • OK thx mackb909 didn't know that
