I like that anyone is up in arms like its going to change anything.Repo men is purhaps my favorite movie to date, and i would like to point out that this movie is really just the logical following of the idea of mecanical organs in a capitalist culture. In fact i believe there is every possiblity that this will come to be.

On topic, Repo men isnt a musical and the mambo referance is a humanists look at the back and forth of the ethics of the main charector, genetic opera was decent but no match

I just watched Repo Men ondemand Purely out of curiousity, I was sick, and so I could defend R!TGO so I'm gonna say simpily worst 2 hours of my life right up there with watching Avatar in Imax 3D way to close and got the worst headache. Repo men is SO boring I didn't care for any of the characters the plot was dull and there were only like one scenes I laughed at (that being a 9 year being a black market surgen). So yeah don't waste your time with it.

Personally, legality aside, as a writer, not being able to say "I came up with my own plot/idea" is just embarrassing, I haven't seen Repo Men, so i don't really know if it's a true rip off (sounds that way, and I am inclined to think it is) however, Repo! Opera is much more important to alot more people then Repo Men will ever be

I suppose, as they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. The good thing about the copycat is that it is (from everything I've heard) really pretty dire. With all the controversy, it increases the awareness of Repo being around and people, being the curious types we are, want to compare, which can only be a good thing for the better film. Bad publicity for them is good publicity for Repo!

But they damn sure did a better job of communicating the base idea for both films than the genetic opera, watching genetic opera was litterally painful for my brain, face it, it sucked. but repo men was completely awesome, (other than the crappy twist at the very end) besides if u actually watched both, its obvious that the only idea that repo men copied (if they did copy) was the general idea that offered the back bone of both story lines

I can honestly say, I was a little apalled by Repo Men. The book seems to follow the movie, from the bit I have read... But there are some similarities that I refuse to ignore. I was angered, but saw the movie. It really wasn't great, in my opinion, and I did tell a few people to check out RTGO, and they liked it much better.

Which movie will we be talking about for years to come? That is for you to decide.

Why can't you fans just be reasonable for a minute? The moment the first organ transplant was done, this idea stopped being original. The idea of repo men coming for organs after you don't pay is a LOGICAL step for Sci Fi writers. So it's a generic plot that you people think is so very original, and are jumping the gun.....

i just found out about Repo Men today and was so shocked and appalled. I was so thinking "They should sue their asses off" but then i found out that Repo Men is based on a book. Probably losely based, either that or the book isn't that good. You get the generic plot basicaly spelled out for you in the trailer. Genetic Opera will last for ages and i hear they want to make a prequel and sequel. I got confused at 1st, I thought RepoMen was a prequel LOL I was like "where's the songs?" LOL

I was wondering what Darren and Terrance had to say about this. That must hurt, after so much work. Take pride in an unique interpretation and execution of the concept (to me, the music is what made it something amazing and memorable). But concepts are fair game to new interpretation.

Repo Men could be used by the fandom to publicize RtGO... I've already gotten a few people interested, after they talked to me about the preview for it and I steered the conversation to RtGO. Just an idea. :)

The Genetic Opera, and uses almost same name and concept for their movie, something just tells me it's not a coinsidence it's more or less, stealing. I agree. Yes, Repo Men may be more talked about after it's release (at least for a short while), and it may be more successful at the box office, but Repo Men will be like any other action movie out there, and it won't make a huge impact, positively or negatively, on the audience it is targeted for.

Repo! The Genetic Opera will prevail, no matter if it is with a huge mainstream audience, or just a small group of devoted fans.

Technically you can copyright a plot, you can't copyright an idea. If there were a lot of similarities between REPO and Repossession Mambo, then there would be a lot of question. The fact that there isn't a lot of similarity in the actual plots of the movies, there's just the general idea of repossessing organs. It's an idea, not a plot.

The only reason that it hasn't been produced until now, is that the computer graphics are just now becoming good enough that he felt it would make the greatest impact.

Starvin - It's not that I flat out hate musicals, just that the majority of the ''songs'' in Repo tend to just be words thrown together, or the same sentence repeated over and over atleast 6 or 7 times. I can see the songs having a ''theme'' but it seemed like whoever was writing the lyrics was just trying to fill time not make anything memorable. And Shilo totally is Avril, right down to the whiny teen angst, and Mag looks like she stole her outfits from Amy Lee during the Fallen era.

Ya know, I love The Genetic Opera. And I always will. I'll give Repo Men (Repossession Mambo) a chance, but I doubt that it's going to be anywhere near as good as the original. I've seen the trailer for it, and yeah, there are differences, but not an excruciatingly noticeable plot change. Except for the fact that one of the repo men needs a new, MECHANICAL heart, and cannot keep up with the payments. So then he has to be hunted down by his former colleagues.

Ironically, the titular Mambo has nothing to do with any actual dance or music. It's the metaphoric use of mambo, referring to the runaround repo men get from their "clients", and the dance of death between a repo man delinquent on payment and his own repo man.

Reposession Mambo novel is currently out; you can probably borrow it from your local library. I've read it, and the plot summary of Repo! The Genetic Opera is NOTHING like RM. (I haven't had opportunity to watch R!TGO in my market.)

I have read Mambo and seen Opera so I'd know better than you. The idea that the novel's title involves a musical phrase when there is another organ repossession story featuring a musical phrase is hard to buy purely as coincidence. Especially now that they've gone ahead and changed the title for the film to get away from that "coincidence".
