I remember when this was first shown on television. The Cock-a-nees prayed to their god, the DG of the BBC, and called down all manner of curses upon the intrepid Spike Milligan. He replied that he had run out of tree dwelling animals to hand over as a peace offering, saying that he couldn't give a monkey's.

Serious answer to the "why is everyone labeled?" question - the BBC wardrobe department had a system in the seventies for labelling costumes with the performer's name and the name of the show. There was such paranoia among performers about going in front of the cameras with a label visible, Spike had the idea of leaving the labels on as an inside joke that became a running joke. In other shows, everyone has a bandaged finger, a coldsore, a beauty spot or something like that.

This is one of my all time favourites. It's from the Q series. Haven't seen it for 30 years! Do you have the rest? There are two sub tribes to come: The Micks (you've guessed it - Irish workmen) and the Pak-es-ta-nees a sub tribe that take care of the buses. The buses incidentally are hunted by the Cock a Knees who meet at the tribal totem (a bus stop) to hunt them. The buses are so afraid that they never show up alone but always in herds. All hilarious stuff - Spike at his best!
